Abstract:The Self Description Questionnaire-I (Marsh, 1988, 1990) was developed to measure self-concept in four nonacademic areas (Physical Ability, Physical Appearance, Peer Relations, and Parent Relations) and three academic areas (Reading, Mathematics, and General-School). There is also also a General-Self scale. The SDQ-I was intended for use in grades 4 through 6 (ages 8 through 12). It is suggested that the test is also suitable for children as young as grade 2 and, with appropriate modifications, for older students up through high school and perhaps college age. The internal consistency reliability estimates for the various scales and total scores are all in the. 80s and. 90s, while the average correlation among the individual self-concept scales is relatively low (r=. 17).
