Abstract:In this study, the co-pyrolysis of Xilinhot lignite (XL) and polystyrene (PS) was conducted to explore hydrogen transfer and redistribution behaviors. Results indicate that the co-pyrolysis yields more tar (12.97–23.01%) than expected (12.83–19.03%), with a more pronounced synergistic effect observed as PS ratio increases. Moreover, the tars of X-S 5 and X-S 10 exhibit significantly elevated contents of n-hexane soluble fractions of 80.35% and 90.42%, surpassing the expected values of 77.78% and 78.72%, which indicates that the quality of tar during co-pyrolysis is improved. Additionally, the content of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the n-hexane soluble fraction of X-S 10 tar (73.28%) is substantially higher than the expected value (54.73%). During the co-pyrolysis of XL/PS, the hydrogen transferred to char and water is lower than expected, whereas the ratio of hydrogen transferred to tar (23.92–38.31%) is higher than the theoretical values (23.80–34.62%), which suggests that the addition of PS in the co-pyrolysis process benefit the transfer of hydrogen from char and water to tar.
