Abstract:The MacWilliams identity, which relates the weight distribution of a code to the weight distribution of its dual code, is useful in determining the weight distribution of codes. In this paper, we derive the MacWilliams identity for linear codes with the rank metric, and our identity has a different form than that by Delsarte. Using our MacWilliams identity, we also derive related identities for rank metric codes. These identities parallel the binomial and power moment identities derived for codes with the Hamming metric.

The Existence of MacWilliams-Type Identities for the Lee, Homogeneous and Subfield Metric

Abstract:Famous results state that the classical MacWilliams identities fail for the Lee metric, the homogeneous metric and for the subfield metric, apart from some trivial cases. In this paper we change the classical idea of enumerating the codewords of the same weight and choose a finer way of partitioning the code that still contains all the information of the weight enumerator of the code. The considered decomposition allows for MacWilliams-type identities which hold for any additive weight over a finite chain ring. For the specific cases of the homogeneous and the subfield metric we then define a coarser partition for which the MacWilliams-type identities still hold. This result shows that one can, in fact, relate the code and the dual code in terms of their weights, even for these metrics. Finally, we derive Linear Programming bounds stemming from the MacWilliams-type identities presented.

Abstract:Suppose R is a local ring with invariants p,n,r,m,k and mr=4, that is R of order p4. Then, R=R0+uR0+vR0+wR0 has maximal ideal J=uR0+vR0+wR0 of order p(m−1)r and a residue field F of order pr, where R0=GR(pn,r) is the coefficient subring of R. In this article, the goal is to improve the understanding of linear codes over small-order non-chain rings. In particular, we produce the MacWilliams formulas and generator matrices for linear codes of length N over R. In order to accomplish that, we first list all such rings up to isomorphism for different values of p,n,r,m,k. Furthermore, we fully describe the lattice of ideals in R and their orders. Next, for linear codes C over R, we compute the generator matrices and MacWilliams identities, as shown by numerical examples. Given that non-chain rings are not principal ideals rings, it is crucial to acknowledge the difficulties that arise while studying linear codes over them.

Abstract:Error-correcting codes have an important role in data storage and transmission and in cryptography, particularly in the post-quantum era. Hermitian matrices over finite fields and equipped with the rank metric have the potential to offer enhanced security with greater efficiency in encryption and decryption. One crucial tool for evaluating the error-correcting capabilities of a code is its weight distribution and the MacWilliams Theorem has long been used to identify this structure of new codes from their known duals. Earlier papers have developed the MacWilliams Theorem for certain classes of matrices in the form of a functional transformation, developed using $q$-algebra, character theory and Generalised Krawtchouk polynomials, which is easy to apply and also allows for moments of the weight distribution to be found. In this paper, recent work by Kai-Uwe Schmidt on the properties of codes based on Hermitian matrices such as bounds on their size and the eigenvalues of their association scheme is extended by introducing a negative-$q$ algebra to establish a MacWilliams Theorem in this form together with some of its associated moments. The similarities in this approach and in the paper for the Skew-Rank metric by Friedlander et al. have been emphasised to facilitate future generalisation to any translation scheme.

Abstract:Analogies between codes and lattices have been extensively studied for the last decades, in this dictionary, the MacWilliams identity is the finite analog of the Jacobi-Poisson formula of the Theta function. Motivated by the random theory of lattices, the statistical significance of MacWilliams theorem is considered, indeed, MacWilliams distribution provides a finite analog of the classical Gauss distribution. In particular, the MacWilliams distribution over quotient space of a code is statistical close to the uniform distribution. In the respect of lattices, the analogy of MacWilliams identity associated with nu-function was conjectured by Sole in 1995. We give an answer to this problem in positive.

Abstract:In 1997, Shor and Laflamme defined the weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting codes and derived a MacWilliams identity. We extend their work by introducing our double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators for qubit codes and then investigate the MacWilliams identities for these enumerators. Based on the generalized MacWilliams identities, we solve an open problem, namely, the Singleton-type bound for asymmetric quantum codes (AQCs). Besides, the Hamming-type and the first linear-programming-type bounds for the AQCs are deduced similarly.

Abstract:The MacWilliams' Extension Theorem is a classical result by Florence Jessie MacWilliams. It shows that every linear isometry between linear block-codes endowed with the Hamming distance can be extended to a linear isometry of the ambient space. Such an extension fails to exist in general for rank-metric codes, that is, one can easily find examples of linear isometries between rank-metric codes which cannot be extended to linear isometries of the ambient space. In this paper, we explore to what extent a MacWilliams' Extension Theorem may hold for rank-metric codes. We provide an extensive list of examples of obstructions to the existence of an extension, as well as a positive result.

In this paper, we define weight enumerator of linear block codes in pomset metric over $\mathbb{Z}_m$ and establish MacWilliams type identities for linear block codes with respect to certain pomsets. Abstract:The MacWilliams Identity is a well established theorem relating the weight enumerator of a code to the weight enumerator of its dual. The ability to use a known weight enumerator to generate the weight enumerator of another through a simple transform proved highly effective and efficient. An equivalent relation was also developed by Delsarte which linked the eigenvalues of any association scheme to the eigenvalues of it's dual association scheme but this was less practical to use in reality. A functional transform was developed for some specific association schemes including those based on the rank metric, the skew rank metric and Hermitian matrices. In this paper those results are unified into a single consistent theory applied to these "Krawtchouk association schemes" using a $b$-algebra. The derivatives formed using the $b$-algebra have also been applied to derive the moments of the weight distribution for any code within these association schemes.

A duality for nonabelian group codes

Abstract:In 1962, Jesse MacWilliams published a set of formulas for linear and abelian group codes that among other applications, were incredibly valuable in the study of self-dual codes. Now called the MacWilliams Identities, her results relate the weight enumerator and complete weight enumerator of a code to those of its dual code. A similar set of MacWilliams identities has been proven to exist for many other types of codes. In 2013, Dougherty, Solé, and Kim published a list of fundamental open questions in coding theory. Among them, Open Question 4.3: "Is there a duality and MacWilliams formula for codes over non-Abelian groups?" In this paper, we propose a duality for nonabelian group codes in terms of the irreducible representations of the group. We show that there is a Greene's Theorem and MacWilliams Identities which hold for this notion of duality. When the group is abelian, our results are equivalent to existing formulas in the literature.

Abstract:This paper examines the $w$-weight enumerators of weights $w$ with maximal symmetry over finite chain rings and matrix rings over finite fields. In many cases, including the homogeneous weight, the MacWilliams identities for $w$-weight enumerators fail because there exist two linear codes with the same $w$-weight enumerator whose dual codes have different $w$-weight enumerators.

Abstract:Linear codes over finite rings become one of hot topics in coding theory after Hommons et al.([4], 1994) discovered that several remarkable nonlinear binary codes with some linear-like properties are the images of Gray map of linear codes over $Z_4$. In this paper we consider two series of linear codes $C(G)$ and $widetilde{C}(G)$ over Galois ring $R=GR(p^2,r)$, where $G$ is a subgroup of $R^{(s)^*}$ and $R^{(s)}=GR(p^2,rs)$. We present a general formula on $N_beta(a)$ in terms of Gauss sums on $R^{(s)}$ for each $ain R$, where $N_beta(a)$ is the number of a-component of the codeword $c_betain C(G) (betain R^{(s)})$ (Theorem 3.1). We have determined the complete Hamming weight distribution of $C(G)$ and the minimum Hamming distance of $widetilde{C}(G)$ for some special G (Theorem 3.3 and 3.4). We show a general formula on homogeneous weight of codewords in $C(G)$ and $widetilde{C}(G)$ (Theorem 4.5) for the special $G$ given in Theorem 3.4. Finally we obtained series of nonlinear codes over $mathbb{F}_{q} (q=p^r)$ with two Hamming distance by using Gray map (Corollary 4.6).

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce some new polynomials associated to linear codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. In particular, we introduce the notion of split complete Jacobi polynomials attached to multiple sets of coordinate places of a linear code over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$, and give the MacWilliams type identity for it. We also give the notion of generalized $q$-colored $t$-designs. As an application of the generalized $q$-colored $t$-designs, we derive a formula that obtains the split complete Jacobi polynomials of a linear code over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$.Moreover, we define the concept of colored packing (resp. covering) designs. Finally, we give some coding theoretical applications of the colored designs for Type~III and Type~IV codes.

Recently, we proposed two new notions, the double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators, for binary quantum codes. Now we will extend these results to nonbinary quantum codes. Abstract:We construct two series of linear codes over finite ring $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ and Galois ring $GR(p^2,m)$ respectively reaching the Griesmer bound. They derive two series of codes over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ by Gray map. The first series of codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ derived from $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ are linear and also reach the Griesmer bound in some cases. Many of linear codes over finite field we constructed have two Hamming (non-zero) weights.
