Abstract:The MacWilliams identity, which relates the weight distribution of a code to the weight distribution of its dual code, is useful in determining the weight distribution of codes. In this paper, we derive the MacWilliams identity for linear codes with the rank metric, and our identity has a different form than that by Delsarte. Using our MacWilliams identity, we also derive related identities for rank metric codes. These identities parallel the binomial and power moment identities derived for codes with the Hamming metric.

Abstract:In 1997, Shor and Laflamme defined the weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting codes and derived a MacWilliams identity. We extend their work by introducing our double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators for qubit codes and then investigate the MacWilliams identities for these enumerators. Based on the generalized MacWilliams identities, we solve an open problem, namely, the Singleton-type bound for asymmetric quantum codes (AQCs). Besides, the Hamming-type and the first linear-programming-type bounds for the AQCs are deduced similarly.

Abstract:In 1962, Jesse MacWilliams published a set of formulas for linear and abelian group codes that among other applications, were incredibly valuable in the study of self-dual codes. Now called the MacWilliams Identities, her results relate the weight enumerator and complete weight enumerator of a code to those of its dual code. A similar set of MacWilliams identities has been proven to exist for many other types of codes. In 2013, Dougherty, Solé, and Kim published a list of fundamental open questions in coding theory. Among them, Open Question 4.3: "Is there a duality and MacWilliams formula for codes over non-Abelian groups?" In this paper, we propose a duality for nonabelian group codes in terms of the irreducible representations of the group. We show that there is a Greene's Theorem and MacWilliams Identities which hold for this notion of duality. When the group is abelian, our results are equivalent to existing formulas in the literature.

Abstract:Famous results state that the classical MacWilliams identities fail for the Lee metric, the homogeneous metric and for the subfield metric, apart from some trivial cases. In this paper we change the classical idea of enumerating the codewords of the same weight and choose a finer way of partitioning the code that still contains all the information of the weight enumerator of the code. The considered decomposition allows for MacWilliams-type identities which hold for any additive weight over a finite chain ring. For the specific cases of the homogeneous and the subfield metric we then define a coarser partition for which the MacWilliams-type identities still hold. This result shows that one can, in fact, relate the code and the dual code in terms of their weights, even for these metrics. Finally, we derive Linear Programming bounds stemming from the MacWilliams-type identities presented.

Recently, we proposed two new notions, the double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators, for binary quantum codes. Now we will extend these results to nonbinary quantum codes. Based on the MacWilliams identities for these enumerators, we explicitly determine the Singleton-type and Hamming-type bounds for arbitrary nonbinary asymmetric quantum codes.

Abstract:In this study, linear codes having their Lee-weight distributions over the semi-local ring $\mathbb{F}_{q}+u\mathbb{F}_{q}$ with $u^{2}=1$ are constructed using the defining set and Gauss sums for an odd prime $q $. Moreover, we derive complete Hamming-weight enumerators for the images of the constructed linear codes under the Gray map. We finally show an application to secret sharing schemes.

Abstract:Analogies between codes and lattices have been extensively studied for the last decades, in this dictionary, the MacWilliams identity is the finite analog of the Jacobi-Poisson formula of the Theta function. Motivated by the random theory of lattices, the statistical significance of MacWilliams theorem is considered, indeed, MacWilliams distribution provides a finite analog of the classical Gauss distribution. In particular, the MacWilliams distribution over quotient space of a code is statistical close to the uniform distribution. In the respect of lattices, the analogy of MacWilliams identity associated with nu-function was conjectured by Sole in 1995. We give an answer to this problem in positive.

Abstract:In this work, extension theorems are generalized to self-dual codes over rings and as applications many new binary self-dual extremal codes are found from self-dual codes over F_2^m+uF_2^m for m = 1, 2. The duality and distance preserving Gray maps from F4 +uF4 to (F_2 +uF_2)^2 and (F_4)^2 are used to obtain self-dual codes whose binary Gray images are [64,32,12]-extremal self-dual. An F_2+uF_2-extension is used and as binary images, 178 extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68 with new weight enumerators are obtained. Especially the first examples of codes with gamma=3 and many codes with the rare gamma= 4, 6 parameters are obtained. In addition to these, two hundred fifty doubly even self dual [96,48,16]-codes with new weight enumerators are obtained from four-circulant codes over F_4 + uF_4. New extremal doubly even binary codes of lengths 80 and 88 are also found by the F_2+uF_2-lifts of binary four circulant codes and a corresponding result about 3-designs is stated.

Abstract:The linear codes with a few weights have been applied widely in combinatorial designs, secret sharing, association schemes, authentication codes and strongly regular graphs. In this paper, we first correct an erroneous result about the exponential sum $\sum_{x\in \mathbb{F}_{2^{e}}}\chi_1\left(ax^{2^{\alpha}+1}+bx\right).$ Then, using the above exponential sum, we construct several families of binary linear codes of $3$-weight and determine their weight distributions. Moreover, Most of them can be used in secret sharing schemes.

Abstract:A kind of extended codes of linear codes C with respect to a vector u , denoted by C ̅(u) , was introduced by Sun, Ding and Chen (2024) [58] . In this paper, we investigate the weight distribution of the extended codes C ̅(u) of projective two-weight codes C over finite fields. As a by-product, several families of linear codes with a few weights are presented, and six infinite families of distance-optimal linear codes are constructed in this paper.

Abstract:The MacWilliams Identity is a well established theorem relating the weight enumerator of a code to the weight enumerator of its dual. The ability to use a known weight enumerator to generate the weight enumerator of another through a simple transform proved highly effective and efficient. An equivalent relation was also developed by Delsarte which linked the eigenvalues of any association scheme to the eigenvalues of it's dual association scheme but this was less practical to use in reality. A functional transform was developed for some specific association schemes including those based on the rank metric, the skew rank metric and Hermitian matrices. In this paper those results are unified into a single consistent theory applied to these "Krawtchouk association schemes" using a $b$-algebra. The derivatives formed using the $b$-algebra have also been applied to derive the moments of the weight distribution for any code within these association schemes.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the theory of defining sets, two classes of five-weight or six-weight linear codes over Fp are constructed. The weight distributions of the linear codes are determined by means of Weil sums and a new type of exponential sums. In some case, there is an almost optimal code with respect to Griesmer bound, which is also an optimal one according to the online code table.

Abstract:Quasi-2-dimensional cyclic (Q2DC) codes over finite fields are important linear codes. They are asymptotically good, and have deep connection with convolutional codes. In this paper, using the trace representation and Gauss sums, we determine the Hamming weight distribution of Q2DC codes. As an application, we construct some classes of constant weight Q2DC codes achieving the Griesmer bound and some classes of two-weight, three-weight Q2DC codes. Moreover, by two-weight Q2DC codes, we obtain secret sharing schemes and association schemes under some special cases.

Abstract:Linear codes with a few weights can be applied to secrete sharing, authentication codes, association schemes and strongly regular graphs. For an odd prime power $q$, we construct a class of three-weight $\F_q$-linear codes from quadratic functions via a bivariate construction and then determine the complete weight enumerators and weight hierarchies of these linear codes completely. Abstract:We construct an infinite family of two-Lee-weight and three-Lee-weight codes over the chain ring $\mathbb{F}_p+u\mathbb{F}_p.$ They have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight distribution is computed by using Gauss sums. Then by using a linear Gray map, we obtain an infinite family of abelian codes with few weights over $\mathbb{F}_p$. In particular, we obtain an infinite family of two-weight codes which meets the Griesmer bound with equality. Finally, an application to secret sharing schemes is given.
