Abstract:For any $K>2$ and the multiplicative cyclic group $\Omega_K$ of order $K$, consider any function $f:\Omega_K^n\to\mathbf{C}$ and its Fourier expansion $f(z)=\sum_{\alpha\in\{0,1,\ldots,K-1\}^n}a_\alpha z^\alpha$, with $d:=\text{deg}(f)$ denoting its degree as a multivariate polynomial. We prove a Bohnenblust--Hille (BH) inequality in this setting: the $\ell_{2d/(d+1)}$ norm of the Fourier coefficients of $f$ is bounded by $C(d,K)\|f\|_\infty$ with $C(d,K)$ independent of $n$. This is the interpolating case between the now well-understood BH inequalities for functions on the poly-torus ($K =\infty$) and the hypercube ($K=2$) but those extreme cases of $K$ have special properties whose absence for intermediate $K$ prevent a proof by the standard BH framework. New techniques are developed exploiting the group structure of $\Omega_K^n$. By known reductions, the cyclic group BH inequality also entails a noncommutative BH inequality for tensor products of the $K \times K$ complex matrix algebra (or in the language of quantum mechanics, systems of $K$-level qudits). These new BH inequalities generalize several applications in harmonic analysis and statistical learning theory to broader classes of functions and operators.

A generic functional inequality and Riccati pairs: an alternative approach to Hardy-type inequalities

Abstract:We present a generic functional inequality on Riemannian manifolds, both in additive and multiplicative forms, that produces well known and genuinely new Hardy-type inequalities. For the additive version, we introduce Riccati pairs that extend Bessel pairs developed by Ghoussoub and Moradifam (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 2008 & Math.A nn., 2011). This concept enables us to give very short/elegant proofs of a number of celebrated functional inequalities on Riemannian manifolds with sectional curvature bounded from above by simply solving a Riccati-type ODE. Among others, we provide alternative proofs for Caccioppoli inequalities, Hardy-type inequalities and their improvements, spectral gap estimates, interpolation inequalities, and Ghoussoub-Moradifam-type weighted inequalities. Concerning the multiplicative form, we prove sharp uncertainty principles on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds, i.e., Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principles, Hydrogen uncertainty principles and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Some sharpness and rigidity phenomena are also discussed.

Abstract:For E1 and E2 elliptic curves defined over a number field K , without complex multiplication, we consider the function FE1,E2(x) counting nonzero prime ideals p of the ring of integers of K , of good reduction for E1 and E2 , of norm at most x , and for which the Frobenius fields Q(πp(E1)) and Q(πp(E2)) are equal. Motivated by an isogeny criterion of Kulkarni, Patankar, and Rajan, which states that E1 and E2 are not potentially isogenous if and only if FE1,E2(x)=oxlogx , we investigate the growth in x of FE1,E2(x) . Abstract:In 2005, B\"ottcher and Wenzel raised the conjecture that if $X,Y$ are real square matrices, then $||XY-YX||^2\leq 2||X||^2||Y||^2$, where $||\cdot||$ is the Frobenius norm. Various proofs of this conjecture were found in the last few years by several authors. We here give another proof. This proof is highly conceptual and requires minimal computation. We also briefly discuss related inequalities, in particular, the classical Chern-do Camo-Kobayashi inequality.

In the setting of essentially non-branching metric measure spaces, we prove the equivalence between the curvature dimension condition [math], in the sense of Lott–Sturm–Villani [Sturm, On the geometry of metric measure spaces. I, Acta Math. 196(1) (2006) 65–131; On the geometry of metric measure spaces. II, Acta Math. 196(1) (2006) 133–177; Ricci curvature for metric-measure spaces via optimal transport, Ann. of Math. (2) 169(3) (2009) 903–991], and a newly introduced notion that we call strong Brunn–Minkowski inequality [math]. This condition is a reinforcement of the generalized Brunn–Minkowski inequality [math], which is known to hold in [math] spaces. Our result is a first step toward providing a full equivalence between the [math] condition and the validity of [math], which has been recently proved in [M. Magnabosco, L. Portinale and T. Rossi, The Brunn–Minkowski inequality implies the CD condition in weighted Riemannian manifolds, Nonlinear Anal. 242 (2024) 113502] in the framework of weighted Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:In this note, we study a question introduced by Bourin \cite{2009Matrix} and partially solve the question of Bourin. In fact, for t\in[0,\frac{1}{4}]\cup[\frac{3}{4},1], we show that |||x^{t}y^{1-t}+y^{t}x^{1-t}|||\leq|||x+y|||, where x,y\in\mathbb{M}_{n}(\mathbb{C})^+ and \||\cdot\|| is the unitarily invariant norm. Moreover, we prove that the above inequality holds on noncommutative fully symmetric spaces.

Abstract:A recent discovery of Eldan and Gross states that there exists a universal $C>0$ such that for all Boolean functions $f:\{-1,1\}^n\to \{-1,1\}$, $$ \int_{\{-1,1\}^n}\sqrt{s_f(x)}d\mu(x) \ge C\text{Var}(f)\sqrt{\log \left(1+\frac{1}{\sum_{j=1}^{n}\text{Inf}_j(f)^2}\right)} $$ where $s_f(x)$ is the sensitivity of $f$ at $x$, $\text{Var}(f)$ is the variance of $f$, $\text{Inf}_j(f)$ is the influence of $f$ along the $j$-th variable, and $\mu$ is the uniform probability measure. In this note, we give an alternative proof that applies to biased discrete hypercube, and spaces having positive Ricci curvature lower bounds in the sense of Bakry and Émery.

Abstract:The entropy power inequality (EPI) and the Brascamp-Lieb inequality (BLI) are fundamental inequalities concerning the differential entropies of linear transformations of random vectors. The EPI provides lower bounds for the differential entropy of linear transformations of random vectors with independent components. The BLI, on the other hand, provides upper bounds on the differential entropy of a random vector in terms of the differential entropies of some of its linear transformations. In this paper, we define a family of entropy functionals, which we show are subadditive. We then establish that Gaussians are extremal for these functionals by mimicking the idea in Geng and Nair (2014). As a consequence, we obtain a new entropy inequality that generalizes both the BLI and EPI. By considering a variety of independence relations among the components of the random vectors appearing in these functionals, we also obtain families of inequalities that lie between the EPI and the BLI.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the isoperimetric inequality for the anisotropic Gaussian measure and characterize the cases of equality. We also find an example that shows Ehrhard symmetrization fails to decrease for the anisotropic Gaussian perimeter and gives a new inequality that includes an error term. This new inequality, in particular, gives us a hint to prove a uniqueness result for the anisotropic Ehrhard symmetrization.
