Abstract:A linear algebraic group G defined over a field k is said to be excellent if for every field extension L of k the anisotropic kernel of the group (G \otimes_k L) is defined over k. We prove that groups of type G_2 and F_4 are excellent over any field k of characteristic other than 2 and 3.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of excellent extensions of rings. Let Γ be an excellent extension of an Artin algebra Λ, we prove that Λ satisfies the Gorenstein symmetry conjecture (resp., finitistic dimension conjecture, Auslander–Gorenstein conjecture, Nakayama conjecture) if and only if so does Γ. As a special case of excellent extensions, when G is a finite group whose order is invertible in Λ acting on Λ and Λ is G-stable, we prove that if the skew group algebra ΛG satisfies strong Nakayama conjecture (resp., generalized Nakayama conjecture), then so does Λ.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group with an Abelian Sylow $p$-subgroup $P$ $(p > 5)$, and $F$, a finite field of characteristic $p$. Set $H = {O^{pâ}}(G)$. Abstract:Given a field K, we investigate which subgroups of the group Aut A K 2 of polynomial automorphisms of the plane are linear or not. The results are contrasted. The group Aut A K 2 itself is nonlinear, except if K is finite, but it contains some large subgroups, of “codimension-five” or more, which are linear. This phenomenon is specific to dimension two: it is easy to prove that any natural “finite-codimensional” subgroup of Aut A K 3 is nonlinear, even for a finite field K. When ch K = 0 , we also look at a similar questions for f.g. subgroups, and the results are again disparate. The group Aut A K 2 has a one-related f.g. subgroup which is not linear. However, there is a large subgroup, of “codimension-three”, which is locally linear but not linear.

Abstract:This paper presents a necessary condition for the ideal class group of an imaginary quadratic function field K = k(~(1/2)D) (k = Fq(x),2+q) to be of exponent ≤ 2. The condition is proved to be sufficient in some cases. Particularly, the authors present an analogue of S. Louboutin's result[1] in the case of function field.

Abstract:Let $F$ be any field. We give a short and elementary proof that any finite subgroup $G$ of $PGL(2,F)$ occurs as a Galois group over the function field $F(x)$. We also develop a theory of descent to subfields of $F$. This enables us to realize the automorphism groups of finite subgroups of $PGL(2,F)$ as Galois groups.

Optimal Linear Sofic Approximations Of Countable Groups

Abstract:A countable group G is called k-linear sofic (for some 0 <k \le 1) if finite subsets of G admit "approximate representations" by complex invertible matrices in the normalized rank metric, so that non-identity elements are k-away from the identity. This class of groups was systematically studied by Arzhantseva and Paunescu [AP17], where it is shown that such a group is always 1/4-linear sofic. In this paper, we will study the optimality of this result for general countable groups and show that every linear sofic group is 1/2-linear sofic, and 1/2 cannot be improved. However, if G is assumed to be torsion-free, then it is 1-linear sofic. These results answer a question posed by G. Arzhantseva in her talk in the IAS Stability and Testability lecture series. We also study the optimal linear sofic constant of finite groups over C and fields of positive characteristic. For the proof, we establish effective non-concentration estimates for random walks on finitely generated abelian groups, which may be of independent interest. Another ingredient of the proof involves bounding integrals of certain trigonometric sums.

Abstract:Let K be a henselian valued field with O_K its valuation ring, Γ its value group, and k its residue field. We study the definable subsets of O_K and algebraic groups definable over O_K in the case where k is algebraically closed and Γ is a ℤ-group. We first describe the definable subsets of O_K, showing that every definable subset of O_K is either res-finite or res-cofinite (see Definition ). Applying this result, we show that GL(n, O_K) (the invertible n by n matrices over O_K) are generically stable for each n, generalizing Y. Halevi's result, where K is an algebraically closed valued field .

Abstract:We initiate a systematic study of the perfection of affine group schemes of finite type over fields of positive characteristic. The main result intrinsically characterises and classifies the perfections of reductive groups and obtains a bijection with the set of classifying spaces of compact connected Lie groups topologically localised away from the characteristic. We also study the representations of perfectly reductive groups. We establish a highest weight classification of simple modules, the decomposition into blocks, and relate extension groups to those of the underlying abstract group.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a henselian valued field with ${\cal O}_K$ its valuation ring, $\Gamma$ its value group, and $\boldsymbol{k}$ its residue field. Abstract:We prove that the generic type of a non-cyclic torsion-free hyperbolic group G is foreign to any interpretable abelian group, hence also to any interpretable field. This result depends, among other things, on the definable simplicity of a non-cyclic torsion-free hyperbolic group, and we take the opportunity to give a proof of the latter using Sela's description of imaginaries in torsion-free hyperbolic groups. We also use the description of imaginaries to prove that if F is a free group of rank > 2 then no orbit of a finite tuple from F under Aut(F) is definable.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a field and $V$ be a set of rank one valuations of $K$. The corresponding Tate-Shafarevich group of a $K$-torus $T$ is $Sha(T , V) = \ker\left(H^1(K , T) \to \prod_{v \in V} H^1(K_v , T)\right)$. We prove that if $K = k(X)$ is the function field of a smooth geometrically integral quasi-projective variety over a field $k$ of characteristic 0 and $V$ is the set of discrete valuations of $K$ associated with prime divisors on $X$, then for any torus $T$ defined over the base field $k$, the group $Sha(T , V)$ is finite in the following situations: (1) $k$ is finitely generated and $X(k) \neq \emptyset$; (2) $k$ is a number field.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a Kac-Moody group over a finite field corresponding to a generalized Cartan matrix $A$, as constructed by Tits. It is known that $G$ admits the structure of a BN-pair, and acts on its corresponding building. We study the complete Kac-Moody group $\hat{G}$ which is defined to be the closure of $G$ in the automorphism group of its building. Our main goal is to determine when complete Kac-Moody groups are abstractly simple, that is have no proper non-trivial normal subgroups. Abstract simplicity of $\hat{G}$ was previously known to hold when A is of affine type. We extend this result to many indefinite cases, including all hyperbolic generalized Cartan matrices $A$ of rank at least four. Our proof uses Tits' simplicity theorem for groups with a BN-pair and methods from the theory of pro-$p$ groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe the higher even $K$-groups of the ring of integers of a number field in terms of class groups of an appropriate extension of the number field in question. This is a natural extension of the previous collective works of Browkin, Keune and Kolster, where they considered the case of $K_2$. We then revisit the Kummer's criterion of totally real fields as generalized by Greenberg and Kida. In particular, we give an algebraic $K$-theoretical formulation of this criterion which we will prove using the algebraic $K$-theoretical results developed here.

Abstract:Given a field K, one may ask which finite groups are Galois groups of field extensions L/K such that L is a maximal subfield of a division algebra with center K. This connection between inverse Galois theory and division algebras was first explored by Schacher in the 1960s. In this manuscript we consider this problem when K is a number field. For the case when L/K is assumed to be tamely ramified, we give a complete classification of number fields for which every solvable Sylow-metacyclic group is admissible, extending J. Sonn's result over the field of rational numbers. For the case when L/K is allowed to be wildly ramified, we give a characterization of admissible groups over several classes of number fields, and partial results in other cases.

Abstract:Let ${\rm k}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 and $G$ a connect, reductive group over it. Let $X$ be a projective $G$-variety of complexity 1. We classify $G$-equivariant normal test configurations of $X$ with integral central fibre via the combinatorial data. We also give a formula of anti-canonical divisors on $X$. Based on this formula, when $X$ is $\mathbb Q$-Fano, we give an expression of the Futaki invariant, and derive a criterion of uniform K-stability in terms of the combinatorial data.
