Abstract:Algebraic curves/surfaces are typical implicit curves/surfaces. They are used widely in CAD and computer graphics. For example, quadratic curve and quadric surface are used as primitive element in most modeling/CAD system. The implicit formulae for computing the intrinsic geometric invariant——Gaussian and mean curvature of an implicit surface are derived in the first part of this paper. The formulae for them are represented by determinant(s) over a simple term, the elements in which are all the derivatives of order one or two of the surface function. The intrinsic geometric invariant is used to study the geometric continuity between two implicit surfaces and the G 2 continuity conditions for two surfaces along their adjacent bound are derived in the second part of the paper. A G 2 blending surface between two given algebraic surfaces are constructed with Gaussian and mean curvature continuity in the last part of the paper, the blending surface itself is also algebraic surface with minimum order.

Abstract:Large scale properties of Riemannian manifolds, in particular, those properties preserved by quasi-isometries, can be studied using discrete structures which approximate the manifolds. In a sequence of papers, M. Kanai proved that, under mild conditions, many properties are preserved by a certain (quasi-isometric) graph approximation of a manifold. One of these properties is p -parabolicity. A manifold M (respectively, a graph G ) is said to be p -parabolic if all positive p -superharmonic functions on M (resp. G ) are constant. This is equivalent to not having p -Green's function (i.e. a positive fundamental solution of the p -Laplace-Beltrami operator). Herein we study directly the p -parabolicity on graphs. We obtain some characterizations in terms of graph decompositions. Also, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a uniform hyperbolic graph to be p -parabolic in terms of its boundary at infinity. Finally, we prove that if a uniform hyperbolic graph satisfies the (Cheeger) isoperimetric inequality, then it is non- p -parabolic for every \(1

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the investigation of biconservative surfaces with parallel normalized mean curvature vector fields ( PNMC ) in the four-dimensional space forms, focusing on the hyperbolic space , the last remaining case to explore. We establish that an abstract surface admits a PNMC biconservative immersion in if and only if it satisfies a certain intrinsic condition; if such an immersion exists, it is unique. We further analyze these abstract surfaces, showing that they form a two-parameter family. In addition, we provide three characterizations of the intrinsic condition to explore the geometric properties of these surfaces.

Abstract:We study the Poisson bracket invariant, which measures the level of Poisson noncommutativity of a smooth partition of unity, on closed symplectic surfaces. Motivated by a general conjecture of Polterovich [P3] and building on preliminary work of Buhovsky–Tanny [BT], we prove that for any smooth partition of unity subordinate to an open cover by discs of area at most c , and under some localization condition on the cover when the surface is a sphere, then the product of the Poisson bracket invariant with c is bounded from below by a universal constant. Similar results were obtained recently by Buhovsky–Logunov–Tanny [BLT] for open covers consisting of displaceable sets on all closed surfaces, and their approach was extended by Shi–Lu [SL] to open covers by nondisplaceable discs. We investigate the sharpness of all these results.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize the Darboux polynomials and invariant algebraic surfaces of the Vallis system. In the proofs, we use the weight homogeneous polynomials and the method of characteristic curves for solving linear partial differential equations. Finally, we have obtained three types of Darboux polynomials of the Vallis system under suitable conditions of parameters.
Discrete Differential Geometry for $C^{1,1}$ Hyperbolic Surfaces of Non-Constant Curvature

Abstract:We develop a discrete differential geometry for surfaces of non-constant negative curvature, which can be used to model various phenomena from the growth of flower petals to marine invertebrate swimming. Specifically, we derive and numerically integrate a version of the classical Lelieuvre formulas that apply to immersions of $C^{1,1}$ hyperbolic surfaces of non-constant curvature. In contrast to the constant curvature case, these formulas do not provide an explicit method for constructing an immersion but rather describe an immersion via an implicit set of equations. We propose an iterative method for resolving these equations. Because we are interested in scenarios where the curvature is a function of the intrinsic material coordinates, in particular, on the geodesic distance from an origin, we suggest a fast marching method for computing geodesic distance on manifolds. We apply our methods to generate surfaces of non-constant curvature and demonstrate how one can introduce branch points to account for the sort of multi-generational buckling and subwrinkling observed in many applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we calculate the Gaussian curvatures of the dual spherical indicatrix curves formed on unit dual sphere by the Blaschke vectors and dual instantaneous Pfaff vectors of dual parallel equidistant ruled surfaces (DPERS) and we give the relationships between these curvatures. In addition to—in cases where the base curves of these DPERS are closed—computing the dual integral invariants of the indicatrix curves. Additionally, we show the relationships between them. Finally, we provide an example for each of these indicatrix curves.

Abstract:For a surface in 3-sphere, by identifying the conformal round 3-sphere as the projectivized positive light cone in Minkowski 5-spacetime, we use the conformal Gauss map and the conformal transform to construct the associate homogeneous 4-surface in Minkowski 5-spacetime. We then derive the local fundamental theorem for a surface in conformal round 3-sphere from that of the associate 4-surface in Minkowski 5-spacetime. More importantly, following the idea of Fefferman and Graham, we construct local scalar invariants for a surface in conformal round 3-sphere. One distinct feature of our construction is to link the classic work of Blaschke to the works of Bryan and Fefferman-Graham.
The Isometric Immersion of Negatively Curved Surfaces with Finite Total Curvature

Abstract:In this paper, we study the smooth isometric immersion of a complete, simply connected surface with a negative Gauss curvature into the three-dimensional Euclidean space. A fundamental and longstanding problem is to find a sufficient condition for a complete negatively curved surface to be isometrically embedded in R^3 [67]. It can be described as an initial and/or boundary value problem for a hyperbolic system of nonlinear partial differential equations derived from the Gauss-Codazzi equations. The mathematical theory associated with this system is largely incomplete. The global smooth isometric immersion has been proven in the literature when the Gauss curvature decays rapidly and monotonically. However, when the Gauss curvature oscillates or decays slowly, the problem becomes much more challenging and little is known. In our paper, we find a sufficient condition, consisting of a finite total Gauss curvature and appropriate oscillations of the Gauss curvature. Under this condition we prove the global existence of a smooth solution to the Gauss-Codazzi system, achieving a global smooth isometric immersion of the surface into R^3. Furthermore, we show that the finite total Gauss curvature is necessary for the existence of a solution in a special case of the Gauss-Codazzi system. New techniques are developed to overcome the difficulties posed by the slow decay and oscillations of the Gauss curvature. By observing that certain combinations of the Riemann invariants decay faster than others, we reformulate the Gauss-Codazzi equations as a symmetric hyperbolic system and uncover a crucial structure of partial dampings. These partial dampings, along with the finite total curvature and appropriate oscillations of the Gauss curvature, enable us to obtain a global smooth solution through delicate analysis, and consequently establish a global smooth isometric immersion of such surfaces.

Parabolic automorphisms of hyperkahler manifolds

Abstract:A parabolic automorphism of a hyperkahler manifold is a holomorphic automorphism acting on $H^2(M)$ by a non-semisimple quasi-unipotent linear map. We prove that a parabolic automorphism which preserves a Lagrangian fibration acts on its fibers ergodically. The invariance of a Lagrangian fibration is automatic for manifolds satisfying the hyperkahler SYZ conjecture; this includes all known examples of hyperkahler manifolds. When there are two parabolic automorphisms preserving two distinct Lagrangian fibration, it follows that the group they generate acts on $M$ ergodically. Our results generalize those obtained by S. Cantat for K3 surfaces.

In the present paper, the method is applied to the case when (respectively, ) and the homogeneous space is the -dimensional projective (respectively, affine ) space, respectively. The main result of the paper is that projectively or affinely invariant PDEs with n independent and one unknown variables are in one-to-one correspondence with invariant hypersurfaces of the space of trace-free cubic forms in n variables with respect to the group of conformal transformations of .

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce some new invariants for complex manifolds. These invariants measure in some sense how far the complex manifolds are away from having global complex coordinates. For applications, we introduce two new invariants f((1,1)) and g((1,1)) for isolated surface singularities. We show that f((1,1)) = g((1,1)) = 1 for rational double points and cyclic quotient singularities.

Abstract:This is a case study of the algebraic boundary of convex hulls of varieties. We focus on surfaces in fourspace to showcase new geometric phenomena that neither curves nor hypersurfaces exhibit. Our method is a detailed analysis of a general purpose formula by Ranestad and Sturmfels in the case of smooth real algebraic surfaces of low degree (that are rational over the complex numbers). We study both the complex and the real features of the algebraic boundary of Veronese and Del Pezzo surfaces. The main difficulties and the possible approaches to the case of general surfaces are discussed for and complemented by the example of Bordiga surfaces.
