Abstract:It is uncertain when green hydrogen will achieve cost parity with blue hydrogen; yet, pricing or regulating residual emissions changes the picture. If blue hydrogen is produced with high methane leakage and low CO2 capture rates, its competitiveness window might have closed already. By contrast, in regions where natural gas is cheap, blue hydrogen can remain competitive, if produced with high CO2 capture (>90%) and low methane leakage rates (<1%).
