Abstract:This note is about the observation that the various transition formulas between bases of trigonometric polynomials can be expressed in terms binomial coefficients. More specifically, we write the entries of the Chebyshev matrices $ T$ and $ U$ in terms of binomial coefficients. We remark that the inverses of certain submatrices of the Chebyshev matrix $ T$ correspond to classical power reduction formulas for trigonometric functions. Therefore the entries of $ T^{-1}$ are expressible in terms of binomial coefficients and powers of two. The inverses of certain submatrices of the Chebyshev matrix $ U$ appear in power reduction formulas involving the Catalan triangles. We could not spot them in the literature. As a corollary the Catalan triangles are interpreted as inverses of rather natural matrices of binomial coefficients. We explain the matrix inversions in terms of Riordan arrays. We solve the integral $ \int _{0}^{2\pi }\cos^{2m}( x)\sin^{2n}( x) dx$ and deduce a hypergeometric identity from the Fourier expansion of $\cos^{2m}(x)$ and $ \sin^{2n}( x)$. As a corollary we prove that super Catalan numbers are integers. We emphasize that from the point of view of these base changes between the trigonometric polynomials it is more natural to work with $2\cos(x)$ and $2\sin(x)$ instead of $\cos(x)$ and $\sin(x)$, since the transition matrices become invertible over the integers. We do a similar analysis for the spread polynomials. This enables us to make a conjecture of Goh and Wildberger more precise. In this exposition we give a mostly self-contained account of the matter, the prerequisites just being four semesters of calculus, linear algebra, elementary complex variables and the residue theorem.

Abstract:Orthogonal polynomials are of fundamental importance in many fields of mathematics and science, therefore the study of a particular family is always relevant. In this manuscript, we present a survey of some general results of the Hermite polynomials and show a few of their applications in the connection problem of polynomials, probability theory and the combinatorics of a simple graph. Most of the content presented here is well known, except for a few sections where we add our own work to the subject, nevertheless, the text is meant to be a self-contained personal exposition.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate some properties, recurrence relations and identities involving degenerate hyperharmonic numbers, hyperharmonic numbers and degenerate harmonic numbers. In particular, we derive an explicit expression of the degenerate hyperharmonic numbers in terms of the degenerate harmonic numbers. This is a degenerate version of the corresponding identity representing the hyperharmonic numbers in terms of harmonic numbers due to Conway and Guy.

Abstract:Polycosecant numbers and polycotangent numbers are introduced as level two analogues of poly-Bernoulli numbers. It is shown that polycosecant numbers and polycotangent numbers satisfy many formulas similar to those of poly-Bernoulli numbers. However, there is much unknown about polycotangent numbers. For example, the zeta function interpolating them at non-positive integers has not yet been constructed. In this paper, we show some algebraic properties of polycosecant numbers and polycotangent numbers. Also, we generalize duality formulas for polycosecant numbers which essentially include those for polycotangent numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, we study several degenerate trigonometric functions, which are degenerate versions of the ordinary trigonometric functions, and derive some identities among such functions by using elementary methods. Especially, we obtain multiple angle formulas for the degenerate cotangent and degenerate sine functions.

Tropical twisted Hurwitz numbers for elliptic curves

Abstract:Hurwitz numbers enumerate branched morphisms between Riemann surfaces. For a fixed elliptic target, Hurwitz numbers are intimately related to mirror symmetry following work of Dijkgraaf. In recent work of Chapuy and Dolega a new variant of Hurwitz numbers with fixed genus $0$ target was introduced that includes maps between between non-orientiable surfaces. These numbers are called $b$-Hurwitz numbers and are polynomials in a parameter $b$ which measures the non-orientability of the involved maps. An interpretation in terms of factorisations of $b$-Hurwitz numbers for $b=1$, so-called twisted Hurwitz numbers, was found in work of Burman and Fesler. In previous work, the authors derived a tropical geometry interpretation of these numbers. In this paper, we introduce a natural generalisation of twisted Hurwitz numbers with elliptic targets within the framework of symmetric groups. We derive a tropical interpretation of these invariants, relate them to Feynman integrals and derive an expression as a matrix element of an operator in the bosonic Fock space.

Abstract:Tensor polynomial identities generalize the concept of polynomial identities on $d \times d$ matrices to identities on tensor product spaces. Here we completely characterize a certain class of tensor polynomial identities in terms of their associated Young tableaux. Furthermore, we provide a method to evaluate arbitrary alternating tensor polynomials in $d^2$ variables.

Abstract:After constructions of p-adic q-integrals, in recent years, these integrals with some of their special cases have not only been utilized as integral representations of many special numbers, polynomials, and functions but have also given the chance for deep analysis of many families of special polynomials and numbers, such as Bernoulli, Fubini, Bell, and Changhee polynomials and numbers. One of the main applications of these integrals is to obtain symmetric identities for the special polynomials. In this study, we focus on a novel extension of the degenerate Fubini polynomials and on obtaining some symmetric identities for them. First, we introduce the two-variable degenerate w-torsion Fubini polynomials by means of their exponential generating function. Then, we provide a fermionic p-adic integral representation of these polynomials. By this representation, we derive some new symmetric identities for these polynomials, using some special p-adic integral techniques. Lastly, by using some series manipulation techniques, we obtain more identities of symmetry for the two variable degenerate w-torsion Fubini polynomials.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to introduce several degenerate hyperbolic functions as degenerate versions of the hyperbolic functions, to evaluate Volkenborn and the fermionic $p$-adic integrals of the degenerate hyperbolic cosine and the degenerate hyperbolic sine functions and to derive from them some identities involving the degenerate Bernoulli numbers, the degenerate Euler numbers and the Cauchy numbers of the first kind.

Abstract:Using a specific form of the triple product identity, polygonal number identities are stated. Further number identities are examined that can be considered identities related to modular sets of numbers. The identities can be used to give results on integer partitions with parts from numbers in modular arithmetic progression. This includes recursive formulas for the number of partitions using these modular parts. The triple product identity can derive further recursive formulas. Additionally, there is a recursive formula for the related sum of divisors function. The specific triple product identity provides a framework to examine all the identities and can be used to define related theta functions.

Abstract:We present a summation rule using the Mellin transform to give short proofs of some important classical relations between special functions and Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. For example, the values of the Hurwitz zeta function at the negative integers are expressed in terms of Bernoulli polynomials. We also show identities involving exponential and Hermite polynomials.

Abstract:We develop a new method to study intersection theory of the main component of the Hilbert scheme of points on complex manifolds. The main result is an iterated residue formula for tautological integrals. We formulate a Chern-Segre-type positivity conjecture for these integrals, and we introduce higher dimensional Segre and Chern integrals.

Abstract:If a real polynomial $f(x)=p(x^2)+xq(x^2)$ is Hurwitz stable (every root if $f$ lies in the open left half-plane), then the Hermite-Biehler Theorem says that the polynomials $p(-x^2)$ and $q(-x^2)$ have interlacing real roots. We extend this result to general polynomials by giving a lower bound on the number of real roots of $p(-x^2)$ and $q(-x^2)$ and showing that these real roots interlace. This bound depends on the number of roots of $f$ which lie in the left half plane. Another classical result in the theory of polynomials is Descartes' Rule of Signs, which bounds the number of positive roots of a polynomial in terms of the number of sign changes in its coefficients. We use our extension of the Hermite-Biehler Theorem to give an inverse rule of signs for polynomials with one positive root.
