Abstract:Background The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) is a field of academic research that focuses on improving learning through reflective and informed teaching. Currently, most SoTL-related work is faculty-driven; however, student involvement in SoTL has been shown to benefit both learners and educators. Our study aims to develop a framework for increasing medical students' interest, confidence, and engagement in SoTL.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Aims to Address This paper aims to address the issue of insufficient student engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Currently, most SoTL-related work is teacher-led, but research indicates that student participation benefits both learners and educators. Therefore, the goal of this study is to develop a framework to enhance medical students' interest, confidence, and engagement in SoTL. ### Summary of the Main Content of the Paper 1. **Background** - SoTL is an academic research field focused on improving learning through reflective and informed teaching. - Although health professional educators recognize the value of SoTL, most SoTL projects are currently teacher-led. - In recent years, there have been calls to expand the role of students in SoTL to further advance the field. 2. **Methods** - A student-led SoTL interest group was developed, and a 1-year SoTL project was designed and implemented under faculty guidance. - The project included workshops and activities aimed at increasing students' interest and confidence in SoTL. - Individual surveys were conducted after each activity to assess participants' views on each session; pre- and post-project surveys were also conducted to evaluate the overall impact of the project. 3. **Results** - The 1-year SoTL project attracted significant participation from medical students and faculty. - Survey results indicated that medical students showed strong interest in the program and perceived it as having a positive impact. - Student participants reported increased interest and confidence in medical education research. - The project design provided opportunities for student networking and ongoing feedback on their areas of interest in medical education research. 4. **Conclusion** - This study provides a framework that other institutions can reference and improve upon to educate and engage students in SoTL. - The research demonstrates that a student-led approach can effectively increase medical students' interest and confidence in SoTL. ### Main Contributions - The study proposes an innovative framework for developing and implementing SoTL projects through student-led interest groups, particularly in medical schools. - The research finds that interactive workshops, rather than traditional lectures, better engage students. - Administrative support (such as funding) is beneficial for the project's success, although not absolutely necessary. Through these efforts, the research team has shown how student participation can enhance medical students' interest and confidence in SoTL, laying the groundwork for future medical education research.
