Abstract:This research investigates the impact of science teaching methods and digital literacy on the development of science literacy among junior high school students in Indonesia. A quantitative analysis employing structural equation modeling (SEM-PLS) was conducted on a sample of 150 students. Descriptive statistics revealed moderate science literacy levels, preferences for hands-on experiments, and a high proficiency in digital literacy. SEM-PLS results demonstrated significant positive relationships between science teaching methods, digital literacy, and science literacy. The bootstrapping analysis confirmed these relationships, emphasizing the importance of both factors in shaping science literacy outcomes. The model exhibited a strong fit, and coefficients indicated substantial explanatory and predictive power for Developing Science Literacy. These findings contribute to the understanding of effective educational strategies for science literacy in the Indonesian context.

He is awarded The Indonesia Endowment Funds for Education to pursue a master's degree. His main concern is to educate more people about the equality of formal education and nonformal education for access to jobs and higher education. Nonformal education is designed to focus on empowerment,training and courses.

The Qualitative Report

Abstract:Despite the presence of various TPD initiatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations, English teachers in the private universities in Indonesia continue to encounter challenges in accessing TPD programs, that fit their specific needs. This study explored the implementation of a social constructivist mentoring program to support the professional development of seven teachers teaching English academic writing. Using an action research approach, this mentoring emphasized collaborative inquiry, reflective practice, and continuous improvement. We opted for a qualitative approach to gain a deeper understanding and exploration of the learning process within the program. Data were collected from multiple resources such as interviews, teachers’ self-evaluation reports, observations, and discussions, and analyzed using the thematic analysis method by Braun and Clarke (2006) to identify and extract significant themes from the collected data. Our findings indicated that using the social constructivism and action research in the program fostered promising progress. The teachers and their students experienced a notable positive transformation, with learning activities becoming more captivating, meaningful, and enjoyable. The teachers expanded their pedagogical knowledge and practices, accompanied by a transformation in their attitudes and mindsets after a series of interventions in the nine-month mentoring program. Finally, not only did we note that the program had a central role in nurturing teachers' self-identity and helping them overcome internal barriers, but it also contributed to the continuous professional development of the teachers in the long run.

Abstract:This research aimed to identify socio-legal and eco-cultural values through the participatory mapping (PM) of local wisdom in supporting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in higher education, which can potentially be applied to English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. The research involved 14 English students at a private university in Bali, Indonesia. The participants were selected to take part in participatory mapping (PM) with community members at a remote village. The results of this study are documented in two major findings. First, with their collective knowledge gained from PM, the English students were able to identify socio-legal and eco-cultural values and utilize them contextually in their report writing. Second, undertaking participatory mapping prior to completing writing tasks in their EFL course could help students to better express their ideas and strengthen their English writing skills. The insertion of two aspects of sustainability in the EFL tasks involved incorporating local values into EFL learning. Through English students experiencing PM prior to completing their writing task, EFL learning can be conducted more authentically with the students paying greater attention to the local culture and values. By exploring socio-legal and eco-cultural sustainability as the core activity of PM in this research, the study contributes to our understanding of the way in which the integration of local values into EFL activities in Indonesia makes a tangible contribution to ESD.

Abstract:This article presents a dialogue between Marek Tesar, Professor at the University of Auckland, and Yulida Pangastuti, a researcher and lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada, exploring the reconceptualisation of early childhood education in Indonesia. The conversation delves into the integration of indigenous perspectives, addressing global crises through education, promoting gender equality, and the theoretical foundations and critiques of ideas that shape contemporary early childhood education. The discussion emphasises the importance of incorporating local wisdom and values into educational practices, fostering environmental stewardship and resilience, and challenging traditional gender roles to create more inclusive and equitable learning environments. Theoretical insights from postcolonial and feminist theories demonstrate their critical role in deconstructing colonial legacies and patriarchal structures within education. The article aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on creating educational frameworks that respect and utilise diversity, promote social justice, and empower all children. Drawing on diverse theoretical perspectives and practical strategies, this dialogue offers a comprehensive approach to rethinking early childhood education in ways honouring cultural relevance, sustainability, and equity.

Abstract:Environmental problems are problems that arise from humans themselves, this can be one of the obstacles to factors that affect the success of teachers and learners in the teaching and learning process in schools. This problem must be overcome by making an effort to foster attitudes and living behaviors for school residents, both teachers, students, employees and parents / families who care about the environment with the management of environmentally sound school areas through the Adiwiyata program. Adiwiyata Program is a program of the Ministry of Environment, where this program is a form of appreciation given by the government to formal educational institutions that are considered to be instrumental in developing environmental education. With the Adiwiyata program, the Faculty of Agriculture – Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya as one of the Universities in Indonesia, especially East Java can make a real contribution in the success of the program through Community Service (PkM) activities. Community Service activities with the empowerment of elementary school teachers are carried out in the West Surabaya area, which is structurally an integral part of the Lakarsantri Subdistrict area, Surabaya - East Java. This program aims to grow and improve the ability of elementary school students to create a healthy environment and avoid negative environmental impacts through school activities with the empowerment of elementary teachers, through active involvement both initiativeally and participatoryly. This method of activity will be carried out using the PRRA (Participatory Rapid Rural Appraissal) and RRA (Rapid and Rural Appraissal) methods, between members of the elementary and companion teachers group (UWKS College) and students. This PkM is important to be proposed and carried out in order to support accelerating the target of achieving the UWKS Higher Education Strategic Plan, where the Umbrella of UWKS Superior Research and Service in accordance with the Rector's Decree in 2012, that the umbrella of research and service of the flagship LPPM-UWKS institution is "Sainteks and Environmental Insights". Where the flagship umbrella of this institution is the basic reference for lecturers to develop self-reliance and creativity, in compiling devotional activities at UWKS. The proposed and will be done service is partly an application of the author's superior research results, where the author's research results have been selected as a national finalist of PT's flagship research products in 2013, as well as a concrete step in realizing the vision and mission of the University, as proclaimed in the UWKS Strategic Plan, is also one of the solutions in solving community problems in facing this pandemic

Abstract:Natural environment should be cared and sustained. It is a place for human to live and develop their social and economical world. Moreover, it is also a site for many biodiversity to live together in a balanced ecosystem. Recently, global awareness is directed to the alarming destruction of environment and its’ potential threats for human and other living things, as the impacts of human social-economical activities. Many efforts are executed to avoid or minimize future environmental damage. One of those endeavours is environmental education for young generation. Growing children’s environmental knowledge, protection skills and management as well as caring and responsible character can be an endurant solution. This study aims to examine some learning aspects in environmental education through green school development in MI Walisongo, Desa Sawohan, Sidoarjo. The study is based on a qualitative inquiry conducted by using direct participant observation as its’ data collection method. The study finds that environmental education requires a wide range of learning experiences, relating to emotion, direct practice and cognition development. In Green School MI Walisongo Desa Sawohan, those experiences are manifested into several learning processes: participative learning, modeling, character building, green site building, learning through game and peer team working.
