Abstract:We establish equivalence between the boundedness of specific supremum operators and the optimality of function spaces in Sobolev embeddings acting on domains in ambient Euclidean space with a prescribed isoperimetric behavior. Our approach is based on exploiting known relations between higher-order Sobolev embeddings and isoperimetric inequalities. We provide an explicit way to compute both the optimal domain norm and the optimal target norm in a Sobolev embedding. Finally, we apply our results to higher-order Sobolev embeddings on John domains and on domains from the Maz'ya classes. Furthermore, our results are partially applicable to embeddings involving product probability spaces.

Abstract:It is well-known that the embedding of the Sobolev space of weakly differentiable functions into Hölder spaces holds if the integrability exponent is higher than the space dimension. In this paper, the embedding of the Sobolev functions into the Hölder spaces is expressed in terms of the minimal weak differentiability requirement independent of the integrability exponent. The proof is based on the generalization of the Newton-Leibniz formula to the $n$-dimensional rectangle and inductive application of the Sobolev trace embedding results. The method is applied to prove the embedding of the Sobolev spaces with dominating mixed smoothness into Hölder spaces.

Abstract:We introduce a novel framework for embedding anisotropic variable exponent Sobolev spaces into spaces of anisotropic variable exponent Hölder-continuous functions within rectangular domains. We establish a foundational approach to extend the concept of Hölder continuity to anisotropic settings with variable exponents, providing deeper insight into the regularity of functions across different directions. Our results not only broaden the understanding of anisotropic function spaces but also open new avenues for applications in mathematical and applied sciences.

Abstract:We provide sharp bounds for the supremum of countably many stochastic convolutions taking values in a 2-smooth Banach space. As a consequence, we obtain sharp bounds on the modulus of continuity of a family of stochastic integrals indexed by parameter $x\in M$, where $M$ is a metric space with finite doubling dimension. In particular, we obtain a theory of stochastic integration in Hölder spaces on arbitrary bounded subsets of $\mathbb{R}^d$. This is done by relating the (generalized) Hölder-seminorm associated with a modulus of continuity to a supremum over countably many variables, using a Kolmogorov-type chaining argument. We provide two applications of our results: first, we show long-term bounds for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, and second, we derive novel results regarding the modulus of continuity of the parabolic Anderson model.

Abstract:We derive integral representations for $(0,q)$-forms, $q\ge1$, on non-smooth strictly pseudoconvex domains, the Henkin-Leiterer domains. A $(0,q)$-form, $f$ is written in terms of integral operators acting on $f$, $\mdbar f$, and $\mdbar^{\ast} f$. The representation is applied to derive $L^{\infty}$ estimates.

Abstract:Supplementing and expanding classical results, for compact spaces $K$ and $L$, $L$ metric, and their Banach spaces $\mathcal{C}(L)$ and $\mathcal{C}(K)$ of continuous real-valued functions, we provide several characterizations of the existence of isometric, resp. isomorphic, embeddings of $\mathcal{C}(L)$ into $\mathcal{C}(K)$. In particular, we show that if the embedded space $\mathcal{C}(L)$ is separable, then the classical theorems of Holsztyński and Gordon become equivalences. We also obtain new results describing the relative cellularities of the perfect kernel of a given compact space $K$ and of the Cantor--Bendixson derived sets of $K$ of countable order in terms of the presence of isometric copies of specific spaces $\mathcal{C}(L)$ inside $\mathcal{C}(K)$.

Abstract:A comprehensive approach to Sobolev-type embeddings, involving arbitrary rearrangement- invariant norms on the entire Euclidean space R^n, is offered. In particular, the optimal target space in any such embedding is exhibited. Crucial in our analysis is a new reduction principle for the relevant embeddings, showing their equivalence to a couple of considerably simpler one-dimensional inequalities. Applications to the classes of the Orlicz-Sobolev and the Lorentz-Sobolev spaces are also presented. These contributions fill in a gap in the existing literature, where sharp results in such a general setting are only available for domains of finite measure.

The authors then establish their characterizations, respectively, in terms of φ-transforms in the sense of Frazier and Jawerth, smooth atoms or Peetre maximal functions, as well as a Sobolev-type embedding. As an application of their atomic characterization, the authors obtain a trace theorem of these variable Besov-type spaces.

Abstract:The aim of the paper is to establish (local) optimal embeddings of Besov spaces $B^{0,b}_{p,r}$ involving only a slowly varying smoothness $b$. In general, our target spaces are outside of the scale of Lorentz-Karamata spaces and are related to small Lebesgue spaces. In particular, we improve results from [CGO11b], where the targets are (local) Lorentz-Karamata spaces. To derive such results, we apply limiting real interpolation techniques and weighted Hardy-type inequalities.

Abstract:We introduce intrinsic Sobolev-Slobodeckij spaces for a class of ultra-parabolic Kolmogorov type operators satisfying the weak Hörmander condition. We prove continuous embeddings into Lorentz and intrinsic Hölder spaces. We also prove approximation and interpolation inequalities by means of an intrinsic Taylor expansion, extending analogous results for Hölder spaces. The embedding at first order is proved by adapting a method by Luc Tartar which only exploits scaling properties of the intrinsic quasi-norm, while for higher orders we use uniform kernel estimates.

Abstract:We introduce an extended Sobolev scale for vector bundles over smooth closed manifolds and investigate its interpolation properties. This scale is built on the base of the inner product Hörmander spaces whose order of regularity is given by an arbitrary positive function OR-varying at infinity in the sense of Avakumović. We prove that this scale is obtained by the interpolation with a function parameter between inner product Sobolev spaces, is closed with respect to the interpolation with a function parameter, and consists of all Hilbert spaces that are interpolation spaces between inner product Sobolev spaces. We also show that the spaces belonging to the scale introduced does not depend (up to equivalence of norms) on the choice of local charts on manifold and local trivializations of the bundle. Moreover, we prove embedding theorems and a duality theorem for this scale. We consider an elliptic pseudodifferential operators acting between vector bundles of the same rank on the extended Sobolev scale. We prove that this operator is bounded and Fredholm on pairs of appropriate Hörmander spaces. An a priori estimate is established for the solutions and their local regularity is investigated. We also find new sufficient conditions for the solutions to have continuous derivatives of a given order.

Abstract:Let $U$ be a connected open subset of $\mathbb{R}^n$, and let $X=(X_1,X_{2},\ldots,X_m)$ be a system of Hörmander vector fields defined on $U$. This paper addresses sharp embedding results and geometric inequalities in the generalized Sobolev space $\mathcal{W}_{X,0}^{k,p}(\Omega)$, where $\Omega\subset\subset U$ is a general open bounded subset of $U$. By employing Rothschild-Stein's lifting technique and saturation method, we prove the representation formula for smooth functions with compact support in $\Omega$. Combining this representation formula with weighted weak-$L^p$ estimates, we derive sharp Sobolev inequalities on $\mathcal{W}_{X,0}^{k,p}(\Omega)$, where the critical Sobolev exponent depends on the generalized Métivier index. As applications of these sharp Sobolev inequalities, we establish the isoperimetric inequality, logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, Rellich-Kondrachov compact embedding theorem, Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, Nash inequality, and Moser-Trudinger inequality in the context of general Hörmander vector fields.

Abstract:The main result of the paper: Given any $\varepsilon>0$, every locally finite subset of $\ell_2$ admits a $(1+\varepsilon)$-bilipschitz embedding into an arbitrary infinite-dimensional Banach space. The result is based on two results which are of independent interest: (1) A direct sum of two finite-dimensional Euclidean spaces contains a sub-sum of a controlled dimension which is $\varepsilon$-close to a direct sum with respect to a $1$-unconditional basis in a two-dimensional space. (2) For any finite-dimensional Banach space $Y$ and its direct sum $X$ with itself with respect to a $1$-unconditional basis in a two-dimensional space, there exists a $(1+\varepsilon)$-bilipschitz embedding of $Y$ into $X$ which on a small ball coincides with the identity map onto the first summand and on a complement of a large ball coincides with the identity map onto the second summand.

Abstract:We introduce and describe relations between Sobolev, Besov and Paley-Wiener spaces associated with three representations of the Lie group of affine transformations of the line. These representations are left and right regular representations and a representation in a space of functions defined on the half-line. The Besov spaces are described as interpolation spaces between respective Sobolev spaces in terms of the Petree's real interpolation method and in terms of a relevant moduli of continuity. By using a Laplace operators associated with these representations a scales of relevant Paley-Wiener spaces are developed and a corresponding $L_{2}$-approximation theory is constructed in which our Besov spaces appear as approximation spaces. Another description of our Besov spaces is given in terms of a frequency-localized Hilbert frames. A Jackson-type inequalities are also proven.
