Abstract:We introduce truncated Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin function spaces and investigate their main properties: embeddings, interpolation, duality, lifting, traces. These new scales allow us to improve several known results in functional analysis and PDE's.

Abstract:The best polynomial approximation is closely related to the Ditzian–Totik modulus of smoothness. In 1988, Z. Ditzian and V. Totik gave some equivalences between them and the class of Besov-type spacesBα,spwith 1≤p≤∞ and 1≤s≤∞. We extend these equivalences to the similar Besov-type spaces with 0<s<1. We also give some new equivalences by means of the behavior of best polynomial approximation.
A new framework for generalized Besov-type and Triebel-Lizorkin-type spaces

Abstract:In this paper, the authors propose a new framework under which a theory of generalized Besov-type and Triebel-Lizorkin-type function spaces is developed. Many function spaces appearing in harmonic analysis fall under the scope of this new framework. Among others, the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator or the related vector-valued maximal function on any of these function spaces is not required to construct these generalized scales of smoothness spaces. Instead of this, a key idea used in this framework is an application of the Peetre maximal function. This idea originates from recent findings in the abstract coorbit space theory obtained by Holger Rauhut and Tino Ullrich. Under this new setting, the authors establish the boundedness of pseudo-differential operators based on atomic and molecular characterizations and also the boundedness of the Fourier multipliers. The characterizations of these function spaces by means of differences and oscillations are also established. As further applications of this new framework, the authors reexamine and polish some existing results for many different scales of function spaces.

Homogeneous Sobolev and Besov spaces on special Lipschitz domains and their traces

Abstract:We aim to contribute to the folklore of function spaces on Lipschitz domains. We prove the boundedness of the trace operator for homogeneous Sobolev and Besov spaces on a special Lipschitz domain with sharp regularity. To achieve this, we provide appropriate definitions and properties, ensuring our construction of these spaces is suitable for non-linear partial differential equations and boundary value problems. The trace theorem holds with the sharp range $s \in (\frac{1}{p}, 1 + \frac{1}{p})$. While the case of inhomogeneous function spaces is well-known, the case of homogeneous function spaces appears to be new, even for a smooth half-space. We refine several arguments from a previous paper on function spaces on the half-space and include a treatment for the endpoint cases $p=1$ and $p=+\infty$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study different types of weighted Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with variable smoothness. The function spaces can be defined by means of the Littlewood-Paley theory in the field of Fourier analysis, while there are other norms arising in the theory of partial differential equations such as Sobolev-Slobodeckij spaces. It is known that two norms are equivalent when one considers constant regularity function spaces without weights. We show that the equivalence still holds for variable smoothness and weights, which is accomplished by making use of shifted maximal functions, Peetre's maximal functions, and the reverse Hölder inequality. Moreover, we obtain a weighted regularity estimate for time-fractional evolution equations and a generalized Sobolev embedding theorem without weights.

Abstract:In this article, via certain lower bound conditions on the measures under consideration, the authors fully characterize the Sobolev embeddings for the scales of Hajłasz–Triebel–Lizorkin and Hajłasz–Besov spaces in the general context of quasi-metric measure spaces for an optimal range of the smoothness parameter s . An interesting facet of this work is how the range of s for which the above characterizations of these embeddings hold is intimately linked (in a quantitative manner) to the geometric makeup of the underlying space. Importantly, although the main results in this article are stated in the context of quasi-metric spaces, the authors provide several examples illustrating how this range of s is strictly larger than similar ones currently appearing in the literature, even in the metric setting. Moreover, the authors relate these values of s to the (non)triviality of these function spaces.

Abstract:Bourgain–Morrey spaces , generalizing what was introduced by J. Bourgain, play an important role in the study related to the Strichartz estimate and the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In this article, via adding an extra exponent , the authors creatively introduce a new class of function spaces, called Besov–Bourgain–Morrey spaces , which is a bridge connecting Bourgain–Morrey spaces with amalgam-type spaces . By making full use of the Fatou property of block spaces in the weak local topology of , the authors give both predual and dual spaces of . Applying these properties and the Calderón product, the authors also establish the complex interpolation of . Via fully using fine geometrical properties of dyadic cubes, the authors then give an equivalent norm of having an integral expression, which further induces a boundedness criterion of operators on . Applying this criterion, the authors obtain the boundedness on of classical operators including the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator, the fractional integral, and the Calderón–Zygmund operator.

Abstract:Besov spaces with dominating mixed smoothness, on the product of the real line and the torus as well as bounded domains, are studied. A characterization of these function spaces in terms of differences is provided. Applications to random fields, like Gaussian fields and the stochastic heat equation, are discussed, based on a Kolmogorov criterion for Besov regularity with dominating mixed smoothness.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce Kondratiev spaces of fractional smoothness based on their close relation to refined localization spaces. Moreover, we investigate relations to other approaches leading to extensions of the scale of Kondratiev spaces with integer order of smoothness, based on complex interpolation, and give further results for complex interpolation of those function spaces. As it turns out to be one of the main tools in studying these spaces on domains of polyhedral type, certain aspects of the analysis of Stein's extension operator are revisited. Finally, as an application, we study Sobolev-type embeddings.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new family of function spaces of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin type. We present the $\varphi $-transform characterization of these spaces in the sense of Frazier and Jawerth and we prove their Sobolev and Franke-Jewarth embeddings. Also, we establish the smooth atomic, molecular and wavelet decomposition of these function spaces. Characterizations by ball means of differences are given. Finally, we investigate a series of examples which play an important role in the study of function spaces of Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin type.

Abstract:We study fractional variants of the quasi-norms introduced by Brezis, Van Schaftingen, and Yung in the study of the Sobolev space W ˙ 1 , p . The resulting spaces are identified as a special class of real interpolation spaces of Sobolev-Slobodeckiĭ spaces. We establish the equivalence between Fourier analytic definitions and definitions via difference operators acting on measurable functions. We prove various new results on embeddings and non-embeddings, and give applications to harmonic and caloric extensions. For suitable wavelet bases we obtain a characterization of the approximation spaces for best n-term approximation from a wavelet basis via smoothness conditions on the function; this extends a classical result by DeVore, Jawerth and Popov.

On homogeneous Sobolev and Besov spaces on the whole and the half space

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an elementary construction of homogeneous Sobolev spaces of fractional order on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathbb{R}^n_+$. This construction completes the construction of homogeneous Besov spaces on $\mathcal{S}'_h(\mathbb{R}^n)$ started by Bahouri, Chemin and Danchin on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We will also extend the treatment done by Danchin and Mucha on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$, and the construction of homogeneous Sobolev spaces of integer orders started by Danchin, Hieber, Mucha and Tolksdorf on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathbb{R}^n_+$. Properties of real and complex interpolation, duality, and density are discussed. Trace results are also reviewed. Our approach relies mostly on interpolation theory and yields simpler proofs of some already known results in the case of Besov spaces. The lack of completeness on the whole scale will lead to consideration of intersection spaces with decoupled estimates to circumvent this issue. As standard and simple applications, we treat the problems of Dirichlet and Neumann Laplacians in these homogeneous functions spaces.

Abstract:The aim of the paper is to establish (local) optimal embeddings of Besov spaces $B^{0,b}_{p,r}$ involving only a slowly varying smoothness $b$. In general, our target spaces are outside of the scale of Lorentz-Karamata spaces and are related to small Lebesgue spaces. In particular, we improve results from [CGO11b], where the targets are (local) Lorentz-Karamata spaces. To derive such results, we apply limiting real interpolation techniques and weighted Hardy-type inequalities.

In this article, by cleverly mixing the norm structures of grand Lebesgue spaces and Besov–Bourgain–Morrey spaces and adding an extra exponent , the authors introduce a new class of function spaces, called generalized grand Besov–Bourgain–Morrey spaces . The authors explore their various real-variable properties including pre-dual spaces and the Gagliardo–Peetre and the ± interpolation theorems. Via establishing some equivalent quasi-norms of related to Muckenhoupt -weights, the authors then obtain an extrapolation theorem of . Applying this extrapolation theorem, the Calderón product, and the sparse family of dyadic grids of , the authors establish the sharp boundedness on of the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator, the fractional integral, and the Calderón–Zygmund operator.

Abstract:We construct a linear operator $T:\mathscr S'(\mathbb R^n)\to \mathscr S'(\mathbb R^n)$ such that $T:\mathscr B_{pq}^s(\mathbb R^n)\to\mathscr B_{pq}^s(\mathbb R^n)$ for all $0<p,q\le\infty$ and $s\in\mathbb R$, but $T(\mathscr F_{pq}^s(\mathbb R^n))\not\subset \mathscr F_{pq}^s(\mathbb R^n)$ unless $p=q$. As a result Triebel-Lizorkin spaces cannot be interpolated from Besov spaces unless $p=q$. In the appendix we purpose a question for the interpolation framework via structured Banach spaces.

Abstract:In the setting of the multidimensional Mellin analysis we introduce moduli of continuity and use them to define Besov-Mellin spaces. We prove that Besov-Mellin spaces are the interpolation spaces (in the sense of J.Peetre) between two Sobolev-Mellin spaces. We also introduce Bernstein-Mellin spaces and prove corresponding direct and inverse approximation theorems. Abstract:In a recent paper, we have shown that warped time-frequency representations provide a rich framework for the construction and study of smoothness spaces matched to very general phase space geometries obtained by diffeomorphic deformations of $\mathbb{R}^d$. Here, we study these spaces, obtained through the application of general coorbit theory, using the framework of decomposition spaces. This allows us to derive embedding relations between coorbit spaces associated to different warping functions, and relate them to established, important smothness spaces. In particular, we show that we obtain $\alpha$-modulation spaces and spaces of dominating mixed smoothness as special cases and, in contrast, that this is only possible for Besov spaces if $d=1$.
