Abstract:Utilizing solar energy to drive the desired photocatalytic reaction is a promising approach for sustainable mitigation of various environmental pollution. Herein, a Ti/rGO@ZnCr-MMO was synthesized for conversion of atmospheric components such as nitrogen (N 2 ) and (CO 2 ) as well as select organic contaminant into value-added hydrocarbons through photocatalysis. The catalyst composite was synthesised through a combination of soft chemical technique, calcination and sonication. The incorporation of Ti into graphene-integrated LDH initiates an accelerated charge displacement. The catalyst exhibited enhanced efficacy with 0.1 % Ti, achieving a peak of 56.95 μmolL −1 of NH 3 from N 2 reduction under visible light. The composite also demonstrated potential for atmospheric N 2 reduction. Further, Methyl Orange (MO) dye was oxidized to generate CO 2 and H 2 O, which then interacted with excited electrons to form methanol (CH 3 OH) and ethanol (C 2 H 6 O). The process involved both oxidation and reduction stages. The composite generated CH 3 OH (7.44 mmolL −1 h −1 ) and C 2 H 6 O (6.43 mmolL −1 h −1 ) with an electron consumption rate of 121.8 mmolL −1 h −1 for the MO conversion reaction. Pure CO 2 reduction also produced CH 3 OH and C 2 H 6 O under visible light. This study advocates a sustainable approach to generate NH 3 , remediate organic pollutants, and reduce CO 2 , addressing environmental restoration and the energy crisis.
