Abstract:A new ternary system consisting of ZnO nanorod/reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/CuInS2 quantum dots has been successfully prepared for photocatalytic application under visible light irradiation. Through the hybridization with the light harvesting material of CuInS2, as well as the conductivity medium RGO, the ternary composite achieves a greatly enhanced light absorption and charge transfer than that of the pristine ZnO. The photocatalytic performance of ZnO-RGO-CuInS2 is substantially elevated with an optimized content of 10% CuInS2 incorporated. The composite material of ZnO-RGO-10% CuInS2 can nearly completely degrade Rhodamine B (RhB) solution in 120 min, whereas bare ZnO itself can only degrade 20% RhB. The excellent photocatalytic performance of ZnO-RGO-CuInS2 demonstrates its promising in the photocatalytic or other extended applications. This work demonstrates a facile way to prepare integrative photosensitizer by taking advantage from the co-catalysts for more efficient and stable semiconductor based composite photocatalyst. Fabricated rGO-modified Ag2S nanoparticles/g-C3N4 nanosheets photocatalyst for enhancing photocatalytic activity

Abstract:Photocatalytic technology provides a new strategy for the treatment of water pollution and energy crisis. Developing photocatalytic materials with high efficiency and stable visible light response has always been the direction of scientific researchers in the photocatalytic field. In this paper, we designed and prepared an efficient and stable rGO-modifited type-I Ag2S/g-C3N4 heterojunction photocatalyst (rGO/Ag2S/CN). The TEM (Transmission electron microscope) technology shows that the morphology of rGO/Ag2S/CN is a sandwich-like structure. UV-Vis DRS (UV-visible diffuse-reflectance spectrum) shows that the loading of Ag2S NPs and the modification of rGO effectively enhance the light response performance of nanocomposite materials in visible light. PL (Photoluminescence) and PEC (Photoelectrochemical) results prove that the photogenerated carriers transport and separation efficiency of rGO/Ag2S/CN have been improved. The photodegradation of RhB and the photoreduction of CO2 results confirmed that this ternary nanocomposite has great photocatalytic activity. The photodegradation efficiency of the RhB aqueous solution is about 98.5% after 30 min under the visible light irradiation. The photoreduction experiments showed that the yields of CO and CH4 are 178.05 μmol/g and 121.11 μmol/g, respectively after 8 h under the UV light irradiation. The results of cyclic photocatalytic experiments and the XRD pattern after those processes further revealed that the modification of rGO not only enhanced the photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposite photocatalyst, but also effectively improved the stability of Ag2S in the photocatalytic process. The possible photocatalytic reaction mechanisms were discussed in detail.

Abstract:The development of a combined photocatalytic system with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) has great potential applications in the degradation and treatment of aqueous organic pollutants. Herein, a Co 3 O 4 -ZnO/rGO was prepared by a hydrothermal method using cobalt acetate, zinc acetate, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as the main raw materials. The physical and chemical characteristics of the obtained catalyst were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The photocatalytic features and capacities of the catalytic materials to activate PMS were investigated. Co 3 O 4 -ZnO/rGO exhibited stronger photocatalytic activity and ability to activate PMS than Co 3 O 4 /rGO or ZnO/rGO, and significantly improved the ability of PMS and photocatalysis to synergistically degrade rhodamine B (RhB), with a degradation rate of 90.40% within 40 min. The mechanism of RhB degradation was proposed based on characterization of materials, evaluation of RhB degradation efficiency, and analysis of the active species involved. The unique particle/sheet structure of Co 3 O 4 -ZnO/rGO provides a large number of active sites, and the formation of heterojunctions between Co 3 O 4 and ZnO improves carrier separation and transport in the reaction system. Our study offers a reference for designing more effective heterojunction catalysts based on the combination of PMS and photocatalytic technology.

Abstract:The investigation focuses on the phenomenon of in situ growth of gold-decorated reduced graphene oxide (Au/rGO) nanocomposites and its applications as a highly efficient photo-catalyst in the realm of mitigating environmental pollutants. In order to explore the degrading impact of rGO, rGO decorated with gold nanoparticles (Au/rGO) was successfully synthesized via a chemical reduction technique. The purity and functional characteristics of as-grown Au/rGO nanostructures were ascertained by structural, morphological, elemental, and optical investigation. Analysis of the acquired XRD pattern, FTIR and Raman spectra, and SEM and TEM images demonstrated the successful preparation of rGO and its decoration with Au nanoparticles. Moreover, under UV–VIS light, the as-prepared nanocomposite (Au/rGO) was employed as a photocatalyst for the degradation of a selected organic pollutant, methyl orange (MO) dye. The 'Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) model' has been effectively used to show that the exposure of a surface monolayer to light causes MO dye molecules to adsorb. The mechanism and kinetics of the MO elimination approach suggest that pseudo-second-order kinetics are most accurately followed and described. The maximal photodegradation rates for MO dye using Au/rGo and rGO nanocomposite were determined to be 92% and 64%, respectively, in the same 45-minute time frame. The improved photocatalytic activity of Au/rGO was proposed to be caused by the effective suppression of electron-hole recombination by the rGO on the Au nanoparticles. Hence, the results suggest that graphene decorated with gold yields a more efficient photocatalyst for environmental applications. One of the novel aspects of this study lies in the proficiently managed synthesis of Au/rGO and its prospective applications as a photo- catalyst for environmental pollution such as to remove pollutants from water.

A novel GO hoisted SnO2–BiOBr bifunctional catalyst for the remediation of organic dyes under illumination by visible light and electrocatalytic water splitting

Abstract:It is imperative to develop affordable multi-functional catalysts based on transition metals for various applications, such as dye degradation or the production of green energy. For the first time, we propose a simple chemical bath method to create a SnO 2 –BiOBr–rGO heterojunction with remarkable photocatalytic and electrocatalytic activities. After introducing graphene oxide (GO) into the SnO 2 –BiOBr nanocomposite, the charge separation, electron mobility, surface area, and electrochemical properties were significantly improved. The X-ray diffraction results show the successful integration of GO into the SnO 2 –BiOBr nanocomposite. Systematic material characterization by scanning and transmission electron microscopy showed that the photocatalysts are composed of uniformly distributed SnO 2 nanoparticles (∼11 nm) on the regular nanosheets of BiOBr (∼94 nm) and rGO. The SnO 2 –BiOBr–rGO photocatalyst has outstanding photocatalytic activity when it comes to reducing a variety of organic dyes like rhodamine B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB). Within 90 minutes of visible light illumination, degradation of a maximum of 99% for MB and 99.8% for RhB was noted. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance was also tested for the ternary nanocomposite, and significantly lower overpotential values of 0.34 and −0.11 V ( vs. RHE) at 10 mA cm −2 were observed for the OER and HER, respectively. Furthermore, the Tafel slope values are 34 and 39 mV dec −1 for the OER and HER, respectively. The catalytic degradation of dyes with visible light and efficient OER and HER performance offer this work a broad spectrum of potential applications.

Abstract:The band gap plays a critical role in determining the photocatalytic efficiency of semiconductor catalysts. Zinc oxide (ZnO) photocatalysts have gained significant attention in sustainable energy and environmental pollution remediation. However, despite its potential, ZnO photocatalytic performance has been hindered by its wide band gap and rapid charge carrier recombination. Numerous techniques have been created to tackle this problem, including doping, nanostructuring, creating oxygen defects, surface modification, and utilizing hybrid nanomaterials. The ZnO and ZnO@GO with different GO contents were synthesized using uncomplicated co-precipitation and solid-state reaction techniques. The ZnO@GO possesses bandgap (Eg) values of 2.5 eV, which is advantageous for achieving more significant photocatalytic activity compared to the unadorned ZnO with Eg values of 3.24 eV. This study investigated the effectiveness of the synthesized catalysts in treating methylene blue (MB) dye through visible light-induced photoreaction. The ZnO@GO nanohybrid exhibited remarkable performance, achieving a decomposition rate of 98.4 % for MB within a 22-minute timeframe. The rate constant of 0.1343 min −1 is significantly greater than that of the unadorned ZnO 0.0448 min −1 . Graphene oxide (GO) plays a crucial role in the photocatalytic process by facilitating the gathering and transportation of electrons. This enhancement generates reactive oxygen species and hydroxyl radicals, effectively breaking down MB. The scavenger test results provided compelling evidence that the degradation of MB primarily occurred due to the presence of hydroxyl radicals, which were identified as the most active species in this process.

Abstract:The assembly of ZnCdS nanoparticles decorated on a 2D platform of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets by a one-pot ionic-liquid-assisted hydrothermal process is reported. The preparation of RGO and the intimate interfacial contact between ZnCdS nanoparticles and the RGO sheets are achieved simultaneously. The structure and composition of the obtained nanocomposites were studied by means of Fourier transform infrared spectrometery, Raman spectrometery, Thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, Scanning electronic microscopy and Transmission electron microscopy. The as-prepared RGO-based nanocomposites show excellent photocatalytic activities toward the photo-degradation of organic dyes.
Atomic insights for Ag Interstitial/Substitutional doping into ZnIn2S4 nanoplates and intimate coupling with reduced graphene oxide for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production by water splitting

Abstract:For the purpose of realizing effective visible-light-driven photocatalysis, Ag-doped ZnIn2S4 nanoplates were synthesized in situ onto reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets (denoted as Ag:ZnIn2S4/RGO). The high photocatalytic activity is predominantly attributed to the doping effect of Ag+ ions into ZnIn2S4 crystal structure. Interstitial and substitutional doping modes help introduce both acceptor and donor states, as supported by our calculations. Such a doping greatly increases the carrier density and charge transport efficiency. Meanwhile, there is a well-contacted interface between Ag:ZnIn2S4 nanoplates and RGO that renders RGO an electron collector and transporter to effectively lengthen the lifetime of the photogenerated charge carriers. As expected, the optimum nanocomposite exhibits a high H2-production rate of 6343.86 μmol g-1 h-1, about 10.3 and 4.0 times higher than that of pure ZnIn2S4 and 0.15 wt% Ag:ZnIn2S4 samples, respectively. Similarly importantly, the photocatalysts exhibit long-term stability (≥100 h) under visible light irradiation.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to synthesize effective and economical MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts and investigate their performance in the degradation of organic pollutants in synthetic effluent. The objective was to assess the characterization results of the synthesized photocatalysts using XRD, SEM/EDS, TEM/HR-TEM, Raman spectrum, and BET isotherm analysis tools. These analyses revealed the good adhesion of MoS2 with rGO and provided insights into the structure and properties of the materials. The results showed that the MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts exhibited remarkable degradation efficiency for organic pollutants such as Rhodamine-B, erichrome black, and malachite green. The outcomes of the study demonstrated that the MoS2/CdNi@rGO catalyst had the greatest rate constant for Rhodamine-B (RhB) decomposition. which would have been approximately 33 times higher than that of pure RGO (0.0121 min-1). The MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts also showed excellent recyclability and persistence across five recycle assays, indicating their potential for practical applications in wastewater treatment. The photocatalyst was moderately active, stable up to its fifth usage and stability of the photocatalyst before and after the photocatalytic reaction was also been studied using XRD and SEM. Further research in this area could lead to the development of advanced photocatalytic technologies for environmental remediation.

Abstract:With the contemporary phenomenon of excessive industrialization, safeguarding and conserving the environment has ascended to the forefront of humanity's most critical challenges. This investigation delineates the successful synthesis of a novel S-scheme ternary ZnO/BiOCl@rGO photocatalyst via a straightforward hydrothermal method. It is employed to proficiently degrade the carcinogenic dyes of methylene blue and malachite green in industrial effluents. The synthesized photocatalysts were characterized utilizing advanced analytical methodologies to examine their crystallinity, vibrational modes of bonds, surface morphology, elemental composition, chemical oxidation states, optical absorption characteristics, the recombination dynamics of photogenerated charge carriers, specific surface area, and structural attributes. The absorbance of visible light and the catalytic performance of the ternary ZnO/BiOCl@rGO (5% RBZ) photocatalyst exhibited a substantial enhancement in comparison to both the pure ZnO and the ZnO/BiOCl composite. The degradation efficiency of ZnO/BiOCl@rGO (5% RBZ) (93.73%, k = 0.0318 min −1 ) was found to be 1.7 times superior to that of ZnO/BiOCl and 4.4 times greater than that of pure ZnO in the degradation of methylene blue after 60 min. In a similar vein, the degradation efficiency of ZnO/BiOCl@rGO (5% RBZ) (99.68%, k = 0.0503 min −1 ) was 1.9 times more effective than ZnO/BiOCl and 3.8 times higher than pure ZnO in the degradation of malachite green after 60 min. The photocatalytic efficacy of ZnO/BiOCl@rGO (5% RBZ) was augmented due to the superior electron transport properties of the rGO layers, which proficiently facilitate the separation of electron–hole pairs. The findings substantiate that the novel S-scheme ternary ZnO/BiOCl@rGO (5% RBZ) photocatalyst represents a cost-efficient solution for the remediation of contaminated water and has the potential to serve as an exemplary material for the reduction of water pollution.

Abstract:Water contamination with synthetic dyes is an escalating problem worldwide. Herein, Co3O4-decorated reduced graphene oxide (Co3O4-rGO) is reported as an effective heterogeneous photocatalyst for the decomposition of organic dyes. The synthesis of Co3O4-rGO was confirmed via spectroscopic techniques including XRD, XPS, TEM, and FTIR. After characterization, the prepared Co3O4-rGO composite was tested as a photocatalyst for the degradation of methylene blue and methyl orange. The photocatalytic efficiency of Co3O4-rGO was >95% after 60 min, corresponding to 200 mg/L as the initial concentration of each dye. The photodegradation of MB and MO was confirmed by BOD and COD measurements. Experimental parameters like the re-usability of Co3O4-rGO, the effect of catalyst dosage, and the effect of dye concentration on photocatalytic activity were also investigated. The photocatalytic activity of Co3O4-rGO for the degradation of MB was 2.13 and 3.43 times higher than that of Co3O4 and rGO, respectively. Similarly, the photocatalytic activity of Co3O4-rGO for the degradation of MO was 2.36 and 3.56 times higher than that of Co3O4 and rGO, respectively. Hence, Co3O4-rGO was found to be an efficient and reusable photocatalyst for the decomposition of selected dyes in the aqueous medium.

Abstract:Zinc oxide is a popular semiconductor used in catalysts due to its wide bandgap and high exciton binding energy. However, the photocatalytic performance of ZnO was compromised by its insufficient electron-hole separation efficiency and electron transfer rate. Herein, ZnO-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite solid catalyst was synthesized by one-step electrodeposition method on FTO substrate using lithium perchlorate (LiClO 4 ) as the supporting electrolyte. Scanning electron microscopy, Raman, Fourier Transform Infrared, and XRD characterizations confirmed the deposition of ZnO and the reduction of graphene oxide Owing to the cooperative effect between rGO and ZnO, the as-prepared ZnO-rGO composites show much enhanced photocatalytic degradation ability compared with pure ZnO nanorods. By optimizing the conditions of electrodeposition of ZnO-rGO composites, the degradation rate of methylene blue can reach 99.1% within 120 min. Thus, the simple preparation and the excellent performance could endow the ZnO-rGO composites with promising application in practical dye-polluted water treatment.

Abstract:Achieving hydrogen production and simultaneous decomposition of organic pollutants through dual-functional photocatalytic reactions has received increasing attention due to the environmentally friendly and cost-effective characteristics of this approach. In this work, an urchin-like oxygen-doped MoS2/ZnIn2S4 (OMS/ZIS) composite was fabricated for the first time using a simple solvothermal method. The unique microstructure with abundant active sites and fast charge transfer channels further shortened the charge migration distance and compressed carrier recombination. The obtained composite exhibited an efficient H2 evolution reaction rate of 12.8 mmol/g/h under visible light, which was nearly times higher than pristine ZnIn2S4, and the apparent quantum efficiency was 14.9% (420 nm). The results of the simultaneous photocatalytic H2 evolution and organic pollutant decomposition test were satisfactory, resulting in decomposition efficiencies of resorcinol, tetracycline, and bisphenol A that reached 41.5%, 63.5%, and 53.0% after 4 h, respectively, and the highest H2 evolution rate was 672.7 µmol/g/h for bisphenol A. Furthermore, natural organic matter (NOM) abundantly found in actual water was adopted as an electron donor for H production under simulated sunlight irradiation, indicating the promising practicability of simultaneous hydrogen evolution and NOM decomposition. Moreover, the mechanisms of the dual-purpose photocatalytic reactions, as well as the synergistic effect between the molecular structures of the organic pollutants and the corresponding adsorption behavior on the photocatalyst surface were illustrated in detail. These obtained results may serve as an inspiration for the rational design of highly efficient, dual-functional photocatalysts in the future.

Abstract:We explore the novel photodecomposition capabilities of β-Ga2O3 when augmented with reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Employing real-time spectroscopy, this study unveils the sophisticated mechanisms of photodecomposition, identifying an optimal 1 wt% β-Ga2O3-rGO ratio that substantially elevates the degradation efficiency of Methylene Blue (MB). Our findings illuminate a direct relationship between the photocatalyst's composition and its performance, with the quantity of rGO synthesis notably influencing the catalyst's morphology and consequently, its photodegradation potency. The 1 wt% β-Ga2O3-rGO composition stands out in its class, showing a notable 4.7-fold increase in CO production over pristine β-Ga2O3 and achieving CO selectivity above 98%. This remarkable performance is a testament to the significant improvements rendered by our novel rGO integration technique. Such promising results highlight the potential of our custom-designed β-Ga2O3-rGO photocatalyst for critical environmental applications, representing a substantial leap forward in photocatalytic technology.

The morphological properties of the composite were analyzed using field emission scanning microscopy (FE-SEM). The visible light absorption ability of the as-prepared pristine and ternary nanocomposites was examined using UV–visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometry. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO, ZnO/CQDs, ZnO/r-GO, and ZnO/CQDs/r-GO nanostructures were evaluated for the degradation of organic pollutants such as methylene orange (MO), rhodamine B (RhB), and methylene blue (MB). The different composites with various amounts of reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) and carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized to enhance photocatalytic activity. The ZnO/CQDs/r-GO composites showed excellent potential for photocurrent generation compared with ZnO, ZnO/CQDs and ZnO/r-GO under-stimulated sunlight. The effect of various parameters such as the effect of reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, pH, and concentration of MB dye has been also studied. The photo-assisted catalytic degradation properties of the catalyst after five cycles exhibit high stability.
A Novel Bimetallic (Au-Pd)-Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite Enhanced Rhodamine B Photocatalytic Degradation under Solar Irradiation

Abstract:Nowadays, water quality is one of the main challenges facing humanity. Recently, hybrid nanomaterials have attracted great attention because they can treat water solutions. In this study, Sol-Immobilization synthesized monometallic (Pd and Au) and bimetallic (Pd-Au) hybrid nanomaterials supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were synthesized as catalysts for the photocatalytic Rhodamine B degradation under direct sunlight. The as-synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV-DRS spectrophotometer, HR-TEM techniques, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The catalytic activities of Pd/rGO and Au/rGO were compared with those of Aux-Pdy/rGO, and a higher photocatalytic degradation efficiency was found for the bimetallic-supported rGO sample. At optimum conditions, Au0.75-Pd0.25/rGO achieved the best dye degradation efficiency of 98%. The reusability study results showed that Au0.75-Pd0.25/rGO retained 89% of its initial activity after five successive uses. The scavenging study results proved that hydroxyl radicals are the major reactive species in the photocatalytic degradation reaction. These findings indicate that Au0.75-Pd0.25/rGO catalyst is a promising material for the treatment of water contaminated with organic dyes under sunlight.

Abstract:Z-scheme g-C3N4/Ag3VO4/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) photocatalysts with multi-interfacial electron-transfer paths enhancing CO2 photoreduction under UV–vis light irradiation were successfully prepared by a hydrothermal process. Transmission electron microscope images displayed that the prepared photocatalysts have a unique 2D–0D–2D ternary sandwich structure. Photoelectrochemical characterizations including TPR, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and linear sweep voltammetry explained that the multi-interfacial structure effectively improved the separation and transmission capabilities of photogenerated carriers. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy and band position analysis proved that the electron-transfer mode of g-C3N4/Ag3VO4 meets the Z-scheme mechanism. The introduction of rGO provided more electron-transfer paths for the photocatalysts and enhanced the stability of Ag-based semiconductors. In addition, the π–π conjugation effect between g-C3N4 and rGO further improved the generation and separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Abstract:In order to enhance degradation of harmful organic pollutants like Rhodamine B (RhB) dye under visible-light irradiation (λ >420 nm), a silver iodide/reduced graphene oxide/bismuth molybdate (AgI/rGO/Bi2MoO6) Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized by a solvothermal process combined with an in-situ precipitation technique. The AgI (15 wt.%)/rGO/Bi2MoO6 (AGBMO-15) photocatalyst with a dosage of 0.5 g/L exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity with 98.0% RhB removal under an initial concentration of 10 mg/L within 30 min. This removal rate was approximately 65.8%, 57.7%, and 72.7% higher than that for a rGO/Bi2MoO6 (GBMO) binary composite, pure AgI powder, and pristine Bi2MoO6 nanoplates, respectively. The novel photocatalyst achieved approximately three times higher photocatalytic degradation within a shorter period of visible-light irradiation than pure Bi2MoO6. Through photoluminescence analysis and trapping experiments, this outstanding performance was attributed to the efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs owing to an internal electric field at the contact interface of AgI and Bi2MoO6, which generated more superoxide radical anions (•O2–) as primary reactive species to promote RhB degradation. Meanwhile, the rGO participated in the capture of visible-light and played a role of solid electronic medium at the AgI/Bi2MoO6 interface, which realized an effective Z-scheme electron transfer path, avoided the self oxidation of photocatalyst and prolonged the carrier life. Furthermore, the AGBMO-15 photocatalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic degradation stability, maintaining an RhB removal rate of 96.2% after four cycles of reuse. Due to its simplicity, reusability, and controllability, the proposed photocatalyst has excellent application potential for the environmental remediation of wastewater.

Abstract:Due to the high redox ability and effective separation of photocharges, Z-schemed photocatalysts have been extensively used to deal with energy crises and environmental pollution. Here, a novel Z-schemed g-C3N4/RGO/ln2S3 photocatalyst was designed and prepared for hydrogen generation and tetracycline hydrochloride degradation. The properties of optical absorption, separation, and transfer of photocharges and heterojunction on photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4/RGO/ln2S3 composite have been studied. The characterization results showed that the Z-scheme photocatalyst has high efficiency on the separation and transfer of photocharges, and the strong redox ability has also remained. Thus, the g-C3N4/RGO/ln2S3 composite exhibited superior photocatalytic performance than pristine ln2S3 and g-C3N4 in the same situations. The H2 evolution rate can reach up to 512.72 μmolg-1h−1 and the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride can reach 95.6% in 60 min under visible light irradiation. This work provides a potential pathway for designing and preparing high-performance photocatalysts to produce clean energy and purify the environment.

Efficient Photocatalysis with Graphene Oxide/ag/ag2s–tio2 Nanocomposites under Visible Light Irradiation

Abstract:Lack of visible light response and low quantum yield hinder the practical application of TiO2 as a high-performance photocatalyst. Herein, we present a rational design of TiO2 nanorod arrays (NRAs) decorated with Ag/Ag2S nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized through successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) and covered by graphene oxide (GO) at room temperature. Ag/Ag2S NPs with uniform sizes are well-dispersed on the TiO2 nanorods (NRs) as evidenced by electron microscopic analyses. The photocatalyst GO/Ag/Ag2S decorated TiO2 NRAs shows much higher visible light absorption response, which leads to remarkably enhanced photocatalytic activities on both dye degradation and photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. Its photocatalytic reaction efficiency is 600% higher than that of pure TiO2 sample under visible light. This remarkable enhancement can be attributed to a synergy of electron-sink function and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag NPs, band matching of Ag2S NPs, and rapid charge carrier transport by GO, which significantly improves charge separation of the photoexcited TiO2. The photocurrent density of GO/Ag/Ag2S-TiO2 NRAs reached to maximum (i.e. 6.77 mA cm-2 vs. 0 V). Our study proves that the rational design of composite nanostructures enhances the photocatalytic activity under visible light, and efficiently utilizes the complete solar spectrum for pollutant degradation.
