Abstract:Let $P$ be a pointed, closed convex cone in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We prove that for two pure isometric representations $V^{(1)}$ and $V^{(2)}$ of $P$, the associated CAR flows $\beta^{V^{(1)}}$ and $\beta^{V^{(2)}}$ are cocycle conjugate if and only if $V^{(1)}$ and $V^{(2)}$ are unitarily equivalent. We also give a complete description of pure isometric representations of $P$ with commuting range projections that give rise to type I CAR flows. We show that such an isometric representation is completely reducible with each irreducible component being a pullback of the shift semigroup $\{S_t\}_{t \geq 0}$ on $L^2[0,\infty)$. We also compute the index and the gauge group of the associated CAR flows and show that the action of the gauge group on the set of normalised units need not be transitive.

Abstract:Let P be a closed convex cone in which is assumed to be spanning and contains no line. In this article, we consider a family of CAR flows over P and study the decomposability of the associated product systems. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for CAR flow to be decomposable. As a consequence, we show that there are uncountable many CAR flows which are cocycle conjugate to the corresponding CCR flows.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Abstract:In this paper using one of the necessary conditions obtained for extendability in [BISSar], we prove that the CAR flows ([Amo01]) on type III factors arising from most quasi-free states are not extendable. As a consequence we find the super product system of CAR flows. We know from [Arv03] that CCR flows and CAR flows on type I factors with the same Arveson index are cocycle conjugate. But our result together with [BISSar] will show that CCR flows and CAR flows on type III factors are not cocycle conjugate.

Abstract:Toeplitz CAR flows are a class of E0-semigroups including the first type III example constructed by R. T. Powers. We show that the Toeplitz CAR flows contain uncountably many mutually non-cocycle-conjugate E0-semigroups of type III. We also generalize the type III criterion for Toeplitz canonical anticommutation relation (CAR) flows employed by Powers (and later refined by W. Arveson), and show that Toeplitz CAR flows are always either of type I or type III.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct uncountably many examples of multiparameter CCR flows, which are not pullbacks of $1$-parameter CCR flows, with index one. Moreover, the constructed CCR flows are type I in the sense that the associated product system is the smallest subsystem containing its units.

Abstract:We examine the completely isometric automorphisms of a free product of noncommutative disc algebras. It will be established that such an automorphism is given simply by a completely isometric automorphism of each component of the free product and a permutation of the components. This mirrors a similar fact in topology concerning biholomorphic automorphisms of product spaces with nice boundaries due to Rudin, Ligocka and Tsyganov. This paper is also a study of multivariable dynamical systems by their semicrossed product algebras. A new form of dynamical system conjugacy is introduced and is shown to completely characterize the semicrossed product algebra. This is proven by using the rigidity of free product automorphisms established in the first part of the paper. Lastly, a representation theory is developed to determine when the semicrossed product algebra and the tensor algebra of a dynamical system are completely isometrically isomorphic.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a simple test case of multiparameter product systems that arise out of random measures. We associate a product system to a stationary Poisson process and a stationary compound Poisson process. We show that the resulting $E_0$-semigroups are CCR flows.

Abstract:We establish that Sarnak's Möbius Disjointness Conjecture holds for product flows between affine linear flows on compact abelian groups with zero topological entropy and a class of rigid dynamical systems. To prove this, we provide an estimate for the average value of the product of the Möbius function and any polynomial phase over short intervals and arithmetic progressions simultaneously. Additionally, we prove that the logarithmically averaged Möbius Disjointness Conjecture holds for the product flow between any affine linear flow on a compact abelian group with zero entropy and any rigid dynamical system. As an application, we show that the logarithmically averaged Möbius Disjointness Conjecture holds for any Lipschitz continuous skew product dynamical system on over a rotation of the circle.

Abstract:Using the Wold-von Neumann decomposition for the isometric covariant representations due to Muhly and Solel, we prove an explicit representation of the commutant of a doubly commuting pure isometric representation of the product system over $\mathbb{N}_0^{k}.$ As an application, we study a complete characterization of invariant subspaces for a doubly commuting pure isometric representation of the product system. This provides us a complete set of isomorphic invariants. Finally, we classify a large class of commuting isometric representations of the product system.

Abstract:In this paper we address the problem of representing solutions of a system of scalar linear partial difference equations akin to state space equations of 1-D systems theory. We first obtain a representation formula for a special class of autonomous systems. Then we show every autonomous system can be converted into the special ones by a coordinate transformation on n-d integer grid. Using this conversion we provide representation formula for general autonomous systems. The representation formula we present can be viewed as multidimensional flow operators acting on initial conditions. These initial conditions are required to satisfy certain compatibility conditions. We give a full description of the set of allowable initial conditions. In our search for a general representation formula, one algebraic result plays a very crucial role. In this result we show that every quotient ring of the n-variable Laurent polynomial ring can be made a finitely generated faithful module over another Laurent polynomial ring of smaller dimension by doing a suitable change of coordinates. We call this result a discrete version of Noether's Normalization Lemma.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma^+$ be the positive cone in a totally ordered abelian group $\Gamma$, and let $\alpha$ be an action of $\Gamma^+$ by endomorphisms of a $C^*$-algebra $A$. We consider a new kind of crossed-product $C^*$-algebra $A\times_\alpha\Gamma^+$, which is generated by a faithful copy of $A$ and a representation of $\Gamma^+$ as partial isometries. We claim that these crossed products provide a rich and tractable family of Toeplitz algebras for product systems of Hilbert bimodules, as recently studied by Fowler, and we illustrate this by proving detailed structure theorems for actions by forward and backward shifts.
