Abstract:The core clans in Xichang County came from Jinling which was the capital of Nantang kingdom,so they had extroverted cultural mind for their permanent remembrance of origin native place.Although these clans lived in a superior environment without desire for fame or wealth,they tended to be open-minded.Taking full advantage of convenient water and land traffic,the literati in Xichang County always enjoyed travelling around if possible.Even during the period of rebellion in the late Yuan Dynasty,literati in Xichang County kept frequent communication with those people from Nanchang and Linjiang region along the Ganjiang River.They learned from each other in term of literature or art,and exchanged views about moral and philosophy.Those elegant scholars from Xichang County got admiration because of their virtue as well as elegance.Besides,they became the leaders of communities and activities concerned about literature and art,which also meant that Xichang County took the leading position among these regions in Jiangxi province.Under this circumstance,many scholar groups such as ＂ten gifted scholars＂,＂seven gifted poets＂,etc.appeared in Xichang County,bringing about prosperity in literature during the last decades of the Yuan Dynasty.＂Ten gifted scholars＂ in Jiangxi was not a fixed association,in which there were nine core members,the last one changed frequently.For example,if we took LIU Song＇s（or YANG Peng＇s and WANG You＇s）social contact in consideration,ZHENG Datong（or LIU Youzhi and WANG Yi）should be the last one of ＂ten gifted scholars＂.Thus,we couldn＇t give a clear definition about ＂ten gifted scholars＂ since they got together just for the sake of tacit understanding.
