Abstract:The Hodge conjecture is shown to be equivalent to a question about the homology of very ample divisors with ordinary double point singularities. The infinitesimal version of the result is also discussed.

Abstract:For each prime number $p$ and each integer $g \geqslant 5$, we construct infinitely many abelian varieties of dimension $g$ over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$ satisfying the standard conjecture of Hodge type. The main tool is a recent theorem of Ancona on certain rank $2$ motives. These varieties are constructed explicitly through Honda-Tate theory. Moreover, they have Tate classes that are not generated by divisors nor liftable to characteristic zero. Also, we prove a result towards a classification of simple abelian varieties for which the result of Ancona can be applied to. Along the way, we prove a result about Honda-Tate theory of independant interest.

Abstract:We introduce the intersection cohomology module of a matroid and prove that it satisfies Poincar\'e duality, the hard Lefschetz theorem, and the Hodge-Riemann relations. As applications, we obtain proofs of Dowling and Wilson's Top-Heavy conjecture and the nonnegativity of the coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for all matroids.

Abstract:We study the weighted spectrum and vanishing cohomology for several classes of isolated hypersurface singularities, and how they contribute to the limiting mixed Hodge structure of a smoothing. Applications are given to several types of singularities arising in KSBA and GIT compactifications and mirror symmetry, including nodes on odd-dimensional hypersurfaces, $k$-log-canonical and $k$-rational singularities, and singularities with Calabi-Yau tail.

Abstract:The Dirac-Dolbeault operator for a compact Kähler manifold is a special case of Dirac operator. The Green function for the Dirac Laplacian over a Riemannian manifold with boundary allows the expression of the values of the sections of the Dirac bundle in terms of the values on the boundary, extending the mean value theorem of harmonic analysis. Utilizing this representation and the Nash–Moser generalized inverse function theorem, we prove the existence of complex submanifolds of a complex projective manifold satisfying globally a certain partial differential equation under a certain injectivity assumption. Thereby, internal symmetries of Dolbeault and rational Hodge cohomologies play a crucial role. Next, we show the existence of complex submanifolds whose fundamental classes span the rational Hodge classes, proving the Hodge conjecture for complex projective manifolds.

Abstract:In some previous work, we defined an invariant of genus zero nonabelian Hodge spaces taking the form of a diagram. Here, enriching the diagram by fission data to obtain a refined invariant, the generic fission tree, including a partition of the core diagram into $k$ subsets, we describe how to construct from these data $k$+1 classes of admissible deformations of wild Riemann surfaces, providing (weak) representations of one same nonabelian Hodge space, so that the isomonodromy systems defined by these representations are expected to be dual. This partially generalises to the case of arbitrary singularity data the picture of the simply-laced case featuring a diagram with a complete $k$-partite core. We illustrate this framework by discussing different Lax representations for Painlevé equations.

A remark on singularities of primitive cohomology classes

Abstract:Green and Griffiths have introduced several notions of singularities associated with normal functions, especially in connection with middle dimensional primitive Hodge classes. In this note, by using the more elementary aspects of the Decomposition Theorem, we define global and local singularities associated with primitive middle dimensional cohomology classes and by using the Relative Hard Lefschetz Theorem, we show that these singularities detect the global and local triviality of the primitive class. In a final section, we write-up a classical inductive argument relating the Hodge conjecture to the local non-vanishing of primitive classes.

Abstract:We consider smooth vector bundles over smooth manifolds equipped with non-smooth geometric data. For nilpotent differential operators acting on these bundles, we show that the kernels of induced Hodge-Dirac-type operators remain isomorphic under uniform perturbations of the geometric data. We consider applications of this to the Hodge-Dirac operator on differential forms induced by so-called rough Riemannian metrics, which can be of only measurable coefficient in regularity, on both compact and non-compact settings. As a consequence, we show that the kernel of the associated non-smooth Hodge-Dirac operator with respect to a rough Riemannian metric remains isomorphic to smooth and singular cohomology when the underlying manifold is compact.

Abstract:We prove asymptotic estimates for the growth in the degree of the Hodge locus in terms of arithmetic properties of the integral vectors that define it. Our methods are general and apply to most variations of Hodge structures for which the Hodge locus is dense. As applications we give asymptotic formulas controlling the degrees of Noether-Lefschetz loci associated to smooth projective hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$, and the degrees of subvarieties of the Torelli locus parameterizing Jacobians split up to isogeny.

Abstract:T. Mochizuki constructs a theory of variations of wild Hodge structure for which the underlying flat connection can have irregular singularities at infinity. He extends in this way the correspondence of Corlette and Simpson between irreducible flat bundles and stables Higgs bundles, taking into account objects with irregular singularities. As an application, he proves a conjecture of Kashiwara concerning a generalization of the Hard Lefschetz theorem when the coefficients are the de Rham complex of a simple holonomic D-module on smooth complex projective variety.

Abstract:We compute the Hochschild and negative cyclic homology of the nodal cubic curve, and we show that the (noncommutative) Hodge to de Rham spectral sequence degenerates at the second page. We also classify all the Hochschild classes that can be lifted to negative cyclic homology, which is important for computation of categorical enumerative invariants.

Abstract:We introduce new finite-dimensional cohomologies on symplectic manifolds. Each exhibits Lefschetz decomposition and contains a unique harmonic representative within each class. Associated with each cohomology is a primitive cohomology defined purely on the space of primitive forms. We identify the dual currents of lagrangians and more generally coisotropic submanifolds with elements of a primitive cohomology, which dualizes to a homology on coisotropic chains.

Abstract:We characterise the set of fundamental groups for which there exist $n$-manifolds that are $h$-cobordant (hence homotopy equivalent) but not simple homotopy equivalent, when $n$ is sufficiently large. In particular, for $n \ge 12$ even, we show that examples exist for any finitely presented group $G$ such that the involution on the Whitehead group $Wh(G)$ is nontrivial. This expands on previous work, where we constructed the first examples of even-dimensional manifolds that are homotopy equivalent but not simple homotopy equivalent. Our construction is based on doubles of thickenings, and a key ingredient of the proof is a formula for the Whitehead torsion of a homotopy equivalence between such manifolds.
