Abstract:Uniform metal droplet 3D printing allows the embedded of functional components during the printing process, which has a unique advantage in the additive manufacturing of bimetallic zero thermal expansion (ZTE) lattice structures. However, controlling the inner morphology and eliminating the hole defects within the Al/Ti connecting region is challenging. Moreover, the intermetallic compounds generated by the deposition of aluminum droplets on the titanium part surface still remain to be elucidated. This work proposes a novel method for ZTE lattice structures additive manufacturing based on uniform metal droplet 3D printing. The aluminum alloy parts were printed by uniform metal droplet 3D printing, and the titanium alloy part was embedded during the printing process to achieve the integrated fabrication of three-dimensional Al/Ti bimetallic ZTE lattices. The effect of the preheating temperature on the cold laps and lack of fusion defect were investigated. The intermetallic compounds between Al and Ti are observed by SEM images. Finally, Al/Ti bimetallic ZTE lattice structures with high-quality inner morphology were successfully printed. This paper lays the foundation for the high-quality manufacturing of bimetallic ZTE lattice structures via metal droplet 3D printing.
