Abstract:Arsenic-alkali residue (AAR) is produced by antimony refining with soluble arsenic and other valuable components contents, indicating its hazardous and resource value. Recovery of arsenic and valuable components from AAR by a green and clear process shows great significance. For that purpose, this study proposes an innovative approach known as the “iron-assisted reduction smelting-vacuum separation” (IRS-VS) process. Components in the AAR will convert into FeAs alloy, Sb, and Na2CO3 without secondary waste generated, achieving recovery rates of 99.96 pct for arsenic and 98.28 pct for antimony under optimal conditions. The FeAs alloy demonstrates a density of 7.55 g cm−3, a magnetic susceptibility of 1.34 × 10−5 emu g−1 Oe−1, and an arsenic concentration of 2.70 mg L−1 (HJ/T 299-2007) and 4.89 mg L−1 (TCLP). These properties indicate its potential as a counterweight material and present a novel opportunity for arsenic application. Moreover, economic and environmental assessments assert that the IRS-VS process is eco-friendly with substantial commercial viability.
