Abstract:The behavior of the droplet and the film thickness and temperature distribution of liquid film are critical to heat and mass transfer performance, especially for discontinuous droplet mode. A 3D model was established to capture and illustrate the transient and discontinuous regularity of evolution of droplets. Discontinuous droplet formation and growth account for the majority of the droplet motion cycle, approximately 45-65%. A perceived opposite flow field evolution law was found, where the evolution of the liquid film spreading distance, velocity, and film thickness patterns triggered by the impact of a single discontinuous droplet does not change with the flow rate. The flow rate affected only the flow evolution pattern by modulating the spacing of the discontinuous droplets produced, which decreased with an increasing flow rate. In addition, the typical features of transient droplet behavior such as formation, growth, breakup, detachment, impact and ripple, and fluctuation of spreading film were fully revealed. The corresponding transient characteristics of the spreading distance, velocity, film thickness, and temperature distribution were also formulated. After impact, the velocity of the spreading film started to increase rapidly and then decrease slowly, which could reach a maximum of about 0.6-0.7 m s(-1) within 20 ms. There were two different transient thickness zones: the rapid spreading zone and the stability zone, which showed a sharp increase at a height of about 2000 mu m within 10 ms after the droplet impact and then gradually decreased as the film spread. In addition, the temperature distribution and local evolution regularity mechanism were systematically analyzed, the local high-temperature zone was detected, and its internal formation mechanism was also revealed.
