Abstract:Through determining all the solutions of x(4) + y(4) = i(sigma)omega(0)(mu)z(2) (where sigma = 0, 1, mu = 0, 1 and omega(0) = 1 + i) in Z[i] and of x(4) + y(4) = (-1)(sigma) omega(1)(mu)z(2) (where sigma = 0, 1, mu = 0, 1 and omega(1) = root-2) and x(4) - x(2)y(2) + y(4) = (-1)(sigma) z(2) (sigma = 0, 1) in Z[root-2], we have proved that i) G(2n) (Q(i)) is a subgroup of K-2 (Q(i)) iff n less than or equal to 2, ii) is a subgroup of K-2(Q(root-2)) iff n less than or equal to 2, iii) If n greater than or equal to 2, then G(2n3m) (Q(root-2)) is a subgroup of K-2(Q(root-2)) iff n = 2 and m = 0, which partially confirms a conjecture on K-2 posed by Browkin in [1].
A number field analogue of Weil's theorem on congruent zeta functions

Abstract:Let $K$ be a function field of one variable over a finite field $\mathbb{F}$. Weil's celebrated theorem states that the congruent zeta function of $K/\mathbb{F}$ is determined by the $\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}/\mathbb{F})$-module structure of $X_{\overline{\mathbb{F}}K}(p)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}_p}\mathbb{Q}_p$, and vise versa, where $p$ is a prime number different from the characteristic of $K$ and $X_{\overline{\mathbb{F}}K}(p)$ stands for the Galois group of the maximal unramified abelian $p$-extension over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}K$. In the present paper, I will give a number field analogue of the above mentioned theorem by considering the total cyclotomic extension, which we may regard as a number field analogue of $\overline{\mathbb{F}}K/K$.

The Qudit ZH Calculus for Arbitrary Finite Fields: Universality and Application

Abstract:We propose a generalization of the graphical ZH calculus to qudits of prime-power dimensions $q = p^t$, implementing field arithmetic in arbitrary finite fields. This is an extension of a previous result by Roy which implemented arithmetic of prime-sized fields; and an alternative to a result by de Beaudrap which extended the ZH to implement cyclic ring arithmetic in $\mathbb Z / q\mathbb Z$ rather than field arithmetic in $\mathbb F_q$. We show this generalized ZH calculus to be universal over matrices $\mathbb C^{q^n} \to \mathbb C^{q^m}$ with entries in the ring $\mathbb Z[\omega]$ where $\omega$ is a $p$th root of unity. As an illustration of the necessity of such an extension of ZH for field rather than cyclic ring arithmetic, we offer a graphical description and proof for a quantum algorithm for polynomial interpolation. This algorithm relies on the invertibility of multiplication, and therefore can only be described in a graphical language that implements field, rather than ring, multiplication.

Abstract:The primary goal of this paper is to provide a general multiplicity estimate. Our main theorem allows to reduce a proof of multiplicity lemma to the study of ideals stable under some appropriate transformation of a polynomial ring. In particular, this result leads to a new link between the theory of polarized algebraic dynamical systems and transcendental number theory. On the other hand, it allows to establish an improvement of Nesterenko's conditional result on solutions of systems of differential equations. We also deduce, under some condition on stable varieties, the optimal multiplicity estimate in the case of generalized Mahler's functional equations, previously studied by Mahler, Nishioka, Topfer and others. Further, analyzing stable ideals we prove the unconditional optimal result in the case of linear functional systems of generalized Mahler's type. The latter result generalizes a famous theorem of Nishioka (1986) previously conjectured by Mahler (1969), and simultaneously it gives a counterpart in the case of functional systems for an important unconditional result of Nesterenko (1977) concerning linear differential systems. In summary, we provide a new universal tool for transcendental number theory, applicable with fields of any characteristic. It opens the way to new results on algebraic independence, as shown in Zorin (2010).

Abstract:For $E_1$ and $E_2$ elliptic curves defined over a number field $K$, without complex multiplication, we consider the function ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x)$ counting non-zero prime ideals $\mathfrak{p}$ of the ring of integers of $K$, of good reduction for $E_1$ and $E_2$, of norm at most $x$, and for which the Frobenius fields $\mathbb{Q}(\pi_{\mathfrak{p}}(E_1))$ and $\mathbb{Q}(\pi_{\mathfrak{p}}(E_2))$ are equal. Motivated by an isogeny criterion of Kulkarni, Patankar, and Rajan, which states that $E_1$ and $E_2$ are not potentially isogenous if and only if ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x) = \operatorname{o} \left(\frac{x}{\log x}\right)$, we investigate the growth in $x$ of ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x)$. We prove that if $E_1$ and $E_2$ are not potentially isogenous, then there exist positive constants $\kappa(E_1, E_2, K)$, $\kappa'(E_1, E_2, K)$, and $\kappa''(E_1, E_2, K)$ such that the following bounds hold: (i) ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x) < \kappa(E_1, E_2, K) \frac{ x (\log\log x)^{\frac{1}{9}}}{ (\log x)^{\frac{19}{18}}}$; (ii) ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x) < \kappa'(E_1, E_2, K) \frac{ x^{\frac{6}{7}}}{ (\log x)^{\frac{5}{7}}}$ under the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis for Dedekind zeta functions (GRH); (iii) ${\mathcal{F}}_{E_1, E_2}(x) < \kappa''(E_1, E_2, K) x^{\frac{2}{3}} (\log x)^{\frac{1}{3}}$ under GRH, Artin's Holomorphy Conjecture for the Artin $L$-functions of number field extensions, and a Pair Correlation Conjecture for the zeros of the Artin $L$-functions of number field extensions.

Dynamics of endomorphisms of algebraic groups

Abstract:Let $\sigma$ denote an endomorphism of a smooth algebraic group $G$ over the algebraic closure of a finite field, and assume all iterates of $\sigma$ have finitely many fixed points. Steinberg gave a formula for the number of fixed points of $\sigma$ (and hence of all of its iterates $\sigma^n$) in the semisimple case, leading to a representation of its Artin-Mazur zeta function as a rational function. We generalise this to an arbitrary (smooth) algebraic group $G$, where the number of fixed points $\sigma_n$ of $\sigma^n$ can depend on $p$-adic properties of $n$. We axiomatise the structure of the sequence $(\sigma_n)$ via the concept of a `finite-adelically distorted' (FAD-)sequence. Such sequences also occur in topological dynamics, and our subsequent results about zeta functions and asymptotic counting of orbits apply equally well in that situation; for example, to $S$-integer dynamical systems, additive cellular automata and other compact abelian groups. We prove dichotomies for the associated Artin-Mazur zeta function, and study the analogue of the Prime Number Theorem for the function counting periodic orbits of length $\leq N$. For an algebraic group $G$ we express the error term via the $\ell$-adic cohomological zeta function of $G$.

Abstract:We give a conditional lower bound on the number of non-trivial simple zeros for the Dedekind zeta function , where K is a quadratic number field. The conditional result is given by assuming a Lindelöf condition on average (in the sense) for both and , which can be seen as a stronger version of Conrey–Gonek–Ghosh's (Invent Math 86:563–576, 1986) conditional result. This improves upon the work of Wu and Zhao (Mathematika 65:851–861, 2019), who had a similar result.

Arithmetic on $q$-deformed rational numbers

Abstract:Recently, Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko introduced a $q$-analog of rational numbers. More precisely, for an irreducible fraction $\frac{r}s>0$, they constructed coprime polynomials ${\mathcal R}_{\frac{r}s}(q), {\mathcal S}_{\frac{r}s}(q) \in {\mathbb Z}[q]$ with ${\mathcal R}_{\frac{r}s}(1)=r, {\mathcal S}_{\frac{r}s}(1)=s$. Their theory has a rich background and many applications. By definition, if $r \equiv r' \pmod{s}$, then ${\mathcal S}_{\frac{r}s}(q)={\mathcal S}_{\frac{r'}s}(q)$. We show that $rr'=-1 \pmod{s}$ implies ${\mathcal S}_{\frac{r}s}(q)={\mathcal S}_{\frac{r'}s}(q)$, and it is conjectured that the converse holds if $s$ is prime (and $r \not \equiv r' \pmod{s}$). We also show that $s$ is a multiple of 3 (resp. 4) if and only if ${\mathcal S}_{\frac{r}s}(\zeta)=0$ for $\zeta=(-1+\sqrt{-3})/2$ (resp. $\zeta=i$). We give applications to the representation theory of quivers of type $A$ and the Jones polynomials of rational links.

Relative class numbers and Euler-Kronecker constants of maximal real cyclotomic subfields

Abstract:The Euler--Kronecker constant of a number field $K$ is the ratio of the constant and the residue of the Laurent series of the Dedekind zeta function $\zeta_K(s)$ at $s=1$. We study the distribution of the Euler--Kronecker constant $\gamma_q^+$ of the maximal real subfield of $\mathbb Q(\zeta_q)$ as $q$ ranges over the primes. Further, we consider the distribution of $\gamma_q^+-\gamma_q$, with $\gamma_q$ the Euler--Kronecker constant of $\mathbb Q(\zeta_q)$ and show how it is connected with Kummer's conjecture, which predicts the asymptotic growth of the relative class number of $\mathbb Q(\zeta_q)$. We improve, for example, the known results on the bounds on average for the Kummer ratio and we prove analogous sharp bounds for $\gamma_q^+-\gamma_q$. The methods employed are partly inspired by those used by Granville (1990) and Croot and Granville (2002) to investigate Kummer's conjecture. We supplement our theoretical findings with numerical illustrations to reinforce our conclusions.

Abstract:We obtain a bounded generation theorem over $\mathcal O/\mathfrak a$, where $\mathcal O$ is the ring of integers of a number field and $\mathfrak a$ a general ideal of $\mathcal O$. This addresses a conjecture of Salehi-Golsefidy. Along the way, we obtain nontrivial bounds for additive character sums over $\mathcal O/\mathcal P^n$ for a prime ideal $\mathcal P$ with the aid of certain sum-product estimates.

Abstract:We study dynamics of the Lattès maps in the complex plane in terms of the Cuntz-Krieger algebras associated to the endomorphisms of the non-commutative tori. In particular, it is shown that iterations of the Lattès maps can be reduced to the dynamics of the subshifts of finite type. Using such a reduction, we calculate the zeta function of the Lattès maps.

Zeros of the Goss zeta function

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth proper curve over a finite field and let $\infty \in X$ be a closed point. Let $A$ be the ring of functions on $X - \infty$. The Goss zeta function $\zeta_A$ of $A$ is an equicharacteristic analogue of the Riemann zeta function. In this article we study the zeros of $\zeta_A$ under the generic condition that $X$ is ordinary. We prove an analogue of the Riemann hypothesis, which verifies a corrected version of a conjecture of Goss. We also show that the zeros of $\zeta_A$ at negative even integers are `simple' and that $\zeta_A$ is nonzero at negative odd integers. This answers questions posed by Goss and Thakur. Both of these results were previously only known under the restrictive hypothesis that $A$ has class number one. Finally, we prove versions of these results for $v$-adic interpolations of the Goss zeta function.

Erdős inequality for primitive sets

Abstract:A set of natural numbers $A$ is called primitive if no element of $A$ divides any other. Let $\Omega(n)$ be the number of prime divisors of $n$ counted with multiplicity. Let $f_z(A) = \sum_{a \in A}\frac{z^{\Omega(a)}}{a (\log a)^z}$, where $z \in \mathbb{R}_{> 0}$. Erdős proved in 1935 that $f_1(A) = \sum_{a \in A}\frac{1}{a \log a}$ is uniformly bounded over all choices of primitive sets $A$. We prove the same fact for $f_z(A)$, when $z \in (0, 2)$. Also we discuss the $\lim_{z \to 0} f_z(A)$. Some other results about primitive sets are generalized. In particular we study the asymptotic of $f_z(\mathbb{P}_k)$, where $\mathbb{P}_k = \{ n : \Omega(n) = k \}$. In case of $z = 1$ we find the next term in asymptotic expansion of $f_1(\mathbb{P}_k)$ compared to the recent result of Gorodetsky, Lichtman, Wong.

Abstract:In a study of congruences for the Fishburn numbers, Andrews and Sellers observed empirically that certain polynomials appearing in the dissections of the partial sums of the Kontsevich–Zagier series are divisible by a certain <em class="EmphasisTypeItalic">q</em>-factorial. This was proved by the first two authors. In this paper, we extend this strong divisibility property to two generic families of <em class="EmphasisTypeItalic">q</em>-hypergeometric series which, like the Kontsevich–Zagier series, agree asymptotically with partial theta functions.

Abstract:Zero-sum problems on abelian groups, subset sums in a field and covers of the integers by residue classes, are three different active topics initiated by P. Erdýos more than 40 years ago and investigated by many researchers separately since then. In an earlier announcement (Electron. Res. Announc. Amer. Math. Soc. 9(2003), 51-60), the author claimed some connections among these seemingly unrelated fas- cinating areas. In this paper we establish the surprising connections for the first time and present a further unified approach. For example, we extend the famous Erdýos-Ginzburg-Ziv theorem in the following way: If {as(mod ns)} k=1 covers each integer either exactly 2q −1 times or exactly 2q times where q is a prime power, then for any c1, . . . , ck ∈ Z/qZ there exists an I ⊆ {1, . . . , k} such that P s2I 1/ns = q and P s2I cs = 0. Our main theorems in this paper unify many results in the three realms and also have applications in finite fields and graph theory.
