Abstract:A facile solution method for the form-controlled synthesis of CsMgPO46H(2)O is reported in this work and the key factor was determined to be the pH value of the solution used. A pure hexagonal phase (P6(3)mc) was obtained at a pH range of 6.9-8.0, whereas a cubic phase (F(3)m) was obtained at 9.5-11.3. Compared with the cubic phase, the hexagonal phase of CsMgPO46H(2)O possessed a stronger second harmonic generation response of 0.82 pm V-1 due to the distortion of the PO4 motif from a regular tetrahedron. The form-controlled synthesis mechanism was identified with the aid of infrared spectroscopy: the protonation process reduced the symmetry of the PO4 motif when the solution pH decreased, resulting in the crystallization of the hexagonal phase of CsMgPO46H(2)O with the distorted PO4 tetrahedron at a lower pH range.

Abstract:A novel nonlinear optical complex crystal with an organic ligand coordinated through an O atom: tetrathiocyanatocadmiummercury-dimethyl sulfoxide, [CdHg(SCN)(4)(H6C2OS)(2)] (CMTD) is reported for the first time. Single crystals have been grown by temperature-lowering method, the crystal structure has been determined, and some physical properties are given. The relations between the crystal structure and nonlinear optical properties are also discussed.

Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:A “direct mixing” synthesis strategy has been demonstrated for the first time that allows fast (e.g., 0.5 h) synthesis of bulk quantity of thermally stable and highly porous metal–organic coordination polymers (MOCP) nanocrystals (30–150 nm diameter) at room temperature with high yield (∼90%). The MOCP materials constructed from Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2BDC) were characterized with scanning electron microscope, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, FT-IR, and volumetric Ar adsorption/desorption. The direct mixing method also produced a highly porous nanometer-sized MOCP material, which is likely to be a new phase that has not been discovered by the more commonly used “diffusion” approach. “Soft” and “hard” template approaches were used to successfully manipulate the morphology of MOCP materials at nanometer scale. In addition, water molecules were shown to play an important role in the synthesis and eventual composition of MOCP materials. Exposure of MOCP materials to water resulted in dramatic drop in surface area and porosity because of possible hydrolysis of the framework. An acid hydrolysis process of MOCP materials was also revealed in which the crystals could be hydrolyzed back into metal salts and organic acid under acid treatment.
Controlling the Nonlinear Optical Behavior and Structural Transformation with A-Site Cation in α-AZnPO4 (A = Li, K)

Abstract:Regulating the crystal structure by A-site cation substitution is one of the effective methods to explore high-performance nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. Herein, two non-centrosymmetric (NCS) compounds, α-MZnPO4 (M = Li, K) with short UV absorption edges 221 and 225 nm, are obtained by performing A-site cation substitution method. It is noteworthy that α-LiZnPO4 (α-LZPO) achieves >10 times second harmonic generation (SHG) response (2.3 × KDP) enhancement compared with that of α-KZnPO4 (α-KZPO) (0.2 × KDP), which is the only case among phosphates with different A-site cations. By structural comparison, it is found that the A-site cations play important roles for anion rearrangements, and further the structure features of the two compounds by designing two suppositional crystal models as well as performing other theoretical calculations are analyzed. The study confirms the feasibility to design promising NLO materials with strengthen SHG response and structural stability in orthophosphate system.

Abstract:Mesocrystal magnesium oxide (MgO) parallelogram with lengths of diagonal line in the range of 7-9 mu m has been synthesized through a facile precipitation method by using phosphate species as the morphology regulator and Mg(NO3)(2) and Na2C2O4 as the inorganic sources. Scanning electronic microscope examination revealed that there is a canyon in the middle of the diagonal line of the as-synthesized products. The canyon resulted from the self-assembly of layer-like structures with a thickness of around 100-150 nm on both sides. To investigate the effect of reaction conditions on the morphologies and components of the resulting products, the types and addition amount of phosphate species and the reaction temperature were studied in detail. The results demonstrated that the introduction of trace amounts of phosphate species in the reaction system played a crucial role in determining the morphologies of the obtained products with variation of reaction temperatures, whereas their components have little been influenced after analyses by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. When assynthesized mesocrystal MgO was employed as a catalyst in the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reaction between benzaldehyde and ethanol, it demonstrated superior performance to MgO particles without the presence of phosphate species.

Abstract:The nonlinear-optical (NLO) materials with second-harmonic-generation (SHG) response need to crystallize in the noncentrosymmetric space group. It is very difficult to control the synthetic conditions to solely form a noncentrosymmetric phase for the materials with noncentrosymmetric and centrosymmetric conformations. Herein, we found that the temperature and halogen anion play an important role during the formation procedure of the pure noncentrosymmetric or centrosymmetric phase for the halogen-based family of coordination polymers to yield hybrid materials with a phase-matching SHG response as well as inherit the primary excellent photonic property of organic linkers. Our results provide a good choice for the design and construction of novel materials with a particular photonic property.

Abstract:Precise control of exciton confinement in metal halide perovskites is critical to the development of high-performance, stable optoelectronic devices. A significant hurdle is the swift completion of ionic metathesis reactions, often within seconds, making consistent control challenging. Herein, the introduction of different steric hindrances in a Cs+ sublattice within CsYb2F7 is reported, which effectively modulates the reaction rate of Cs+ with lead (Pb2+) and halide ions in solution, extending the synthesis time for perovskite nanostructures to tens of minutes. Importantly, the Cs+ sublattice provides a crystal facet-dependent preference for perovskite growth and thus exciton confinement, allowing the simultaneous occurrence of up to six emission bands of CsPbBr3. Moreover, the rigid CsYb2F7 nano template offers high activation energy and enhances the stability of the resulting perovskite nanostructures. This methodology provides a versatile approach to synthesizing functional heterostructures. Its robustness is demonstrated by in-situ growth of perovskite nanostructures on Cs+-mediated metal-organic frameworks.

Abstract:Controlled synthesis of colloidal all-inorganic lead halide perovskite semiconductor nanocrystals, such as CsPbBr3, with tunable size, shape, composition, and crystalline phase have recently attracted wide interest for photonic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we report a new strategy for using alkyl-thiols to induce the transformation of CsPbBr3 to perovskite-related cesium lead halide (CsPb2Br5) with controlled morphology and a crystalline phase at room temperature. By rational tuning the ratios of the alkyl-thiol ligands to alkyl-amines or to alkyl-acids, the as-synthesized colloidal nanocrystals can be rationally controlled from orthorhombic crystalline-phase CsPbBr3 to tetragonal-phase CsPb2Br5 nanosheets and nanowires with high yield. Significantly, the tetragonal CsPb2Br5 nanowires and nanosheets have high stability in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. These findings may open new directions for large-scale synthesis of shape- and crystalline phase-controlled perovskite nanocrystals for high-performance, low-cost optical electronic and optoelectronic devices.
Data‐Driven Controlled Synthesis of Oriented Quasi‐Spherical CsPbBr3 Perovskite Materials

Abstract:Controlled synthesis of lead-halide perovskite crystals is challenging yet attractive because of the pivotal role played by the crystal structure and growth conditions in regulating their properties. This study introduces data-driven strategies for the controlled synthesis of oriented quasi-spherical CsPbBr3, alongside an investigation into the synthesis mechanism. High-throughput rapid characterization of absorption spectra and color under ultraviolet illumination was conducted using 23 possible ligands for the synthesis of CsPbBr3 crystals. The links between the absorption spectra slope (difference in the absorbance at 400 nm and 450 nm divided by a wavelength interval of 50 nm) and crystal size were determined through statistical analysis of more than 100 related publications. Big data analysis and machine learning were employed to investigate a total of 688 absorption spectra and 652 color values, revealing correlations between synthesis parameters and properties. Ex-situ characterization confirmed successful synthesis of oriented quasi-spherical CsPbBr3 perovskites using polyvinylpyrrolidone and Acacia. Density functional theory calculations highlighted strong adsorption of Acacia on the (110) facet of CsPbBr3. Optical properties of the oriented quasi-spherical perovskites prepared with these data-driven strategies were significantly improved. This study demonstrates that data-driven controlled synthesis facilitates morphology-controlled perovskites with excellent optical properties.

Abstract:The orientational order of a liquid crystalline( LC)system is in favor of the alignment of nonlinear optical (NLO) units. If a NLO unit is:also a LC unit, the resulted liquid crystalline NLO polymer may possess a higher orientational order and therefore promote the nonlinear optical sensibility. A polymalonate side chain liquid crystalline (LC) polymer with a nonlinear optical nitro azobenzene type mesogenic unit has been synthesized by melt polycondensation, which was characterized by FTIR and H-1-NMR. The thermal transition temperatures and LC properties of the polymer were determined by DSC, polarized optical microscope(POM) and WAXD. A typical-smectic focal conic texture was observed under POM and two small sharp WAXD peaks corresponding to Bragg's spacings 2.74nm and 1.35nm appeared in the smectic phase, Moreover, spin-coating films of the polymer through corona poling possessed an orientational order parameter phi =0.33 calculated from UV measurements. But light scattering resulted from the crystallization of the polymer reduced the transparency of the polymer film and some small sharp peaks appeared in the UV spectra.

Abstract:In recent years, all-inorganic perovskite semiconductor CsPbCl3 is widely studied because of its excellent optical and electronic properties, but its derivative Cs4PbCl6, which possesses a wider band gap, is seldom studied due to the challenging synthesis. In this work, we demonstrate a selective synthesis method for Cs4PbCl6 and CsPbCl3 in microemulsion regulated by the ligand concentration of n-octylamine. When the concentration is sufficiently high, the products are regular hexagonal Cs4PbCl6 microcrystal in sizes of 1-2 mu m; when the concentration is sufficiently low, the products are rectangular plate-shaped CsPbCl3 nanocrystals in sizes of 200-800 nm; and when the concentration is moderate, the products are their mixtures. Cathodoluminescence spectrum of a single particle of Cs4PbCl6 is measured. The change of Pb2+ solubility regulated by the ligand concentration is mainly responsible for the selective synthesis. This method applies for the synthesis of Cs4PbBr6.

Abstract:Shape-controlled synthesis of tetragonal PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 (PZT) perovskite nanocrystallites, microrolls, microrods and 3D complex architectures composed of microroll-bundles or microrod-bundles were realized via a hydrothermal reaction route by simply adjusting the poly-vinylalcohol (PVA) and KOH concentrations. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), differential temperature and thermogravimetric analysis (DTA and TG) were used to characterize the phase composition, morphology and thermal behaviors of the synthesized samples. In order to investigate the effect of PVA on the shape-controlled synthesis of the tetragonal PZT perovskite particles, a series of experiments were performed by changing the PVA and KOH concentration. Based on the experimental results, the formation mechanisms of tetragonal PZT perovskite particles with various shapes and the effects of the PVA macromolecular conformation are discussed.

Abstract:Perovskite metal halides have attracted extensive attention because of their excellent photoelectric properties and structural adjustability. Herein, the authors report a facile method for the controlled synthesis of cesium‐bismuth halides by controlling the stoichiometry of Cs/Bi precursors at room temperature. The 0D Cs3BiCl6 and 1D Cs3Bi2Cl9 can be obtained at the Cs/Bi feed ratio of 3:1 and 3:2, respectively. Though both metal halides exhibit a very low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) due to their intrinsic nature of indirect band gaps, they exhibited bright orange broadband emission after Mn2+ doping. Combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations, it is found that an appropriate amount of Mn2+ doping does not change the crystal structures of cesium‐bismuth halides, but Mn 3d orbitals produce impurity states in the forbidden energy gaps of the host structures, resulting in efficient energy transfer from the conduction band of the host to d‐state of Mn ions. Importantly, the reversible structural switch of Mn‐doped Cs3BiCl6 and Cs3Bi2Cl9 metal halides can be flexibly adjusted through the post addition of the CsCl/BiCl3 precursors. These results tremendously enrich the synthetic chemistry of low‐dimensional metal halides and provide a beneficial reference for the regulation of crystal structure and optical properties of metal halides. Abstract:Herein, we report a facile and convenient method for the synthesis of the porous coordination polymer MOF-14 [Cu-3(BTB)(2)] (H3BTB=4,4,4-benzene-1,3,5-triyl-tribenzoic acid) as microcrystals with definite shapes and crystal facets controlled by the reaction medium at room temperature. The amount of sodium acetate added to the reaction system plays a crucial role in the shape evolution of MOF-14 from rhombic dodecahedrons to truncated rhombic dodecahedrons and cubes with truncated edges and then to cubes. The addition of a base could accelerate the formation rate of crystal growth and increase the supersaturation of crystal growth, thus resulting in the formation of MOF-14 cube crystals with high-energy crystal facets. The morphological evolution was also observed for HKUST-1 [Cu-3(BTC)(2)] (H3BTC=1,3,5-benzenetricarbocylic acid) from octahedrons to cubes, thus verifying the probable mechanism of the morphological transformation. The gas-adsorption properties of MOF-14 with different shapes were studied and reveal that the porous coordination-polymer microcrystals display excellent and morphology-dependent sorption properties.

Abstract:Colloidal nanocrystals of fully inorganic cesium lead halide (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I, or combinations thereof) perovskites have attracted much attention for photonic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we demonstrate a facile room-temperature (e.g., 25 °C), ligand-mediated reprecipitation strategy for systematically manipulating the shape of CsPbX3 colloidal nanocrystals, such as spherical quantum dots, nanocubes, nanorods, and nanoplatelets. The colloidal spherical quantum dots of CsPbX3 were synthesized with photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield values up to >80%, and the corresponding PL emission peaks covering the visible range from 380 to 693 nm. Besides spherical quantum dots, the shape of CsPbX3 nanocrystals could be engineered into nanocubes, one-dimensional nanorods, and two-dimensional few-unit-cell-thick nanoplatelets with well-defined morphology by choosing different organic acid and amine ligands via the reprecipitation process. The shape-dependent PL decay lifetimes have been determined to be several to tens to hundreds of nanoseconds. Our method provides a facile and versatile route to rationally control the shape of the CsPbX3 perovskites nanocrystals, which will create opportunities for applications such as displays, lasing, light-emitting diodes, solar concentrators, and photon detection.

Abstract:Two phosphates, KZnPO 4 and NH 4 ZnPO 4 , were successfully synthesized using a solid-state reaction method and characterized via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both of their structures feature a three-way skeleton composed of isolated PO 4 and ZnO 4 tetrahedra, with K + /NH 4 + cations occupying the spaces within the frameworks to balance charges. These compounds are isostructural and crystallize in the noncentrosymmetric P 6 3 space group. Their structures were compared, revealing that non-centrosymmetric (NCS) KZnPO 4 and NH 4 ZnPO 4 exhibit second harmonic generation (SHG) responses of 0.4 × KDP and 1 × KDP, respectively. Furthermore, by combining the electronic structure and SHG density calculations, we examined the effects of ZnO 4 tetrahedra on the SHG response of KZnPO 4 and NH 4 ZnPO 4 .

Abstract:Two new magnesium phosphite-oxalates were prepared under solvent-free conditions using different amines as structure-directing agents. They feature noncentrosymmetric structures with sql and dia topologies, respectively. The two compounds show moderate second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses under 1064 nm laser irradiation. Abstract:The MnCO3 hollow microspheres and nanocubes have been successfully synthesized via an ionic liquid-assisted hydrothermal synthetic method. The samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Our experimental results demonstrate that the MnCO3 hollow microspheres are obtained by self-assembly under the driving force of Ostwald ripening process. Moreover, we found that the sizes and morphologies of the crystals depended on the concentration of the ionic liquid, and we obtained the MnCO3 nanocubes formed by ordered aggregation of nanoplates with high concentration of [bmim][Cl]. The effects of [bmim][Cl] on the formation of the MnCO3 have been investigated systematically. This method is expected to be a useful technique to prepare other metal carbonates for controlling the diverse shapes and sizes.
