Abstract:In construction projects featuring pile foundations, lateral movements in the soil caused by new pile installations can place extra stress on nearby existing piles, resulting in greater bending and deflection. This study utilises diverse approaches, including centrifuge experiments, coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analyses, and a twostage method to fully explore this issue. The CEL method was validated through results from centrifuge tests and utilised to reveal the failure mechanism. The method was also used to explore the relationship between the net soil pressure and relative horizontal displacement in the pile, referred to as the P -S curve. A new framework for the P -S curve was introduced based on these findings. The P -S curve and conventional P -y curve suggested by the API guidelines were incorporated into the two-stage method for validation against centrifuge test results. The findings indicate that the bending moments estimated using the newly proposed P -S curve are closely aligned with the outcomes from the centrifuge tests, while those computed using the P -y curve generally overestimate the bending moments. These insights are crucial for ensuring the safety and structural stability of engineering projects that involve pile foundations.
