Mathematical Modelling of Engineering Problems
Abstract:This research offers an in-depth exploration of the mechanical behavior of square steel tubular columns reinforced with concrete under axial compression. The study particularly focuses on how initial conditions, including initial stress and structural defects, influence the columns' performance.By employing ABAQUS for finite element analysis, the investigation covers a broad spectrum of slenderness ratios, systematically assessing how these factors affect the structural integrity of the columns. The analysis reveals that while initial stress tends to reduce the peak load-bearing capacity, it paradoxically enhances the ductility of the columns, a critical aspect of their performance under load.Conversely, initial defects, particularly in slender columns, exacerbate instability, leading to significant reductions in load-bearing capacity. These findings highlight the pivotal role of initial conditions in shaping the mechanical behavior and overall safety of steel-reinforced concrete columns. The study's insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the load-bearing mechanisms and provide a robust framework for improving the precision and dependability of structural design.By integrating considerations of initial conditions into the design process, engineers can significantly bolster the safety and durability of composite columns, especially in highrisk applications such as high-rise buildings and bridges.
