Abstract:In the realm of machinery health monitoring, the quest for robust and efficient fault detection methodologies persists. This paper introduces a novel signal decomposition approach, termed Cyclic Unfolding Decomposition (CUD), explicitly designed for the identification of periodic signals. Going beyond conventional envelope spectrum analyses, CUD leverages principles akin to the Law of Large Numbers, placing paramount emphasis on temporal details and providing a distinctive lens for signal periodicity identification. The essence of CUD lies in its utilization of the inherent statistical robustness of the Law of Large Numbers. It assumes that the signal comprises components with different periods and employs the Law of Large Numbers to filter out the energy of components corresponding to specific periods, providing relevant indicators. The experimental verification employs a dual approach, simulating experiments to assess the identification of periodic components under conditions of high signal-to-noise ratio and low sampling rates. The practical experimentation involves using the publicly available bearing fault dataset from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) to demonstrate the engineering application potential of the algorithm. The results highlight its superiority over traditional envelope spectrum methods in certain aspects. The significance of this work lies not in the complexity of the algorithm but in its ability to perform signal recognition and information retrieval solely through periodic estimation. Simultaneously, it possesses simplicity and clear physical significance. The diverse array of data outputs derived from this methodology opens avenues for seamless integration with complementary algorithms.
