Abstract:The degradation of insulating paper is taking place with the increasingly operating time of transformers, which results in a decline in performance, increasing the probability of internal discharge accidents in transformers. Additionally, the distortion of local electric fields caused by the accumulation of charges is one of the reasons for such accidents. Traps within oil-paper insulation capture charges, but the trap characteristics of oil-impregnated paper are influenced by the extent of cellulose aging. Through accelerated thermal aging experiment, oil-paper insulation samples with varying aging degrees were acquired for this study. Using experiments including surface potential decay and alternating current breakdown, the variations in breakdown characteristics and trap qualities of different samples were examined. According to the experimental findings, during the initial phases of aging, the paper's reduced moisture content causes a notable drop in conductivity, a little rise in electrical strength, and an increase in trap energy levels. Oil-impregnated paper exhibits a decreasing trend in its trap energy levels with increasing age, along with a constant increase in conductivity and a decrease in electrical strength.
