Abstract:Electrical modulation of spin transport is of both fundamental and practical significance for various spintronic devices. However, the effectiveness of manipulating spin transport in heavy metal (HM)/ferromagnetic metal (FM) hybrid structures on a piezoelectric substrate using an external electric field remains controversial. Spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) is widely regarded as a unique method for characterizing spin transport in HM/FM hybrid structures. In this work, we demonstrate that in a W/FeGaB/Pt multilayer film deposited on a PMN-PT piezoelectric substrate, resistance variations as a function of external magnetic field can be controlled by voltage due to voltage-induced stress anisotropy. However, electric fields do not affect the angle-dependent magnetoresistance contributed by SMR and anomalous Hall resistance. Additionally, measurements of the polar magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) indicate that the electric field has a negligible impact on the damping-like spin-orbit torque (SOT). Our findings reveal robust SOT in an HM/FM multilayer under voltage-induced stress.
