Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.
The Bounds of Restricted Isometry Constants for Low Rank Matrices Recovery

Abstract:This paper discusses conditions under which the solution of linear system with minimal Schatten- p norm, 0 < p ⩽ 1, is also the lowest-rank solution of this linear system. To study this problem, an important tool is the restricted isometry constant (RIC). Some papers provided the upper bounds of RIC to guarantee that the nuclear-norm minimization stably recovers a low-rank matrix. For example, Fazel improved the upper bounds to δ 4 r A < 0.558 and δ 3 r A < 0.4721, respectively. Recently, the upper bounds of RIC can be improved to δ 2 r A < 0.307. In fact, by using some methods, the upper bounds of RIC can be improved to δ 2 r A < 0.4931 and δ 2 r A < 0.309. In this paper, we focus on the lower bounds of RIC, we show that there exists linear maps A with δ 2 r A > 1/√2 or δ r A > 1/3 for which nuclear norm recovery fail on some matrix with rank at most r . These results indicate that there is only a little limited room for improving the upper bounds for δ 2 r A and δ r A . Furthermore, we also discuss the upper bound of restricted isometry constant associated with linear maps A for Schatten p (0 < p < 1) quasi norm minimization problem.
On Nonpositively Curved Compact Riemannian Manifolds with Degenerate Ricci Tensor

Abstract:In this article, we prove that if the Ricci tensor of a compact nonpositively curved manifold M n is nowhere negative definite, then it admits local flat factors. To be more precise, let U C M be the open subset where the Ricci tensor has maximum rank r. Then for any connected component U a of U, its universal cover U a is isometric to R n―r ×N r a , where n r a is a nonpositively curved manifold with negative Ricci curvature. In particular, if M n is compact, nonpositively curved without Euclidean de Rham factor, and both the manifold and the metric are real analytic, then its Ricci tensor must be negative definite somewhere.

Abstract:A closed connected oriented Riemannian manifold $N$ with non-vanishing Euler characteristic, non-negative curvature operator and $0<2\text{Ric}_N<\text{scal}_N$ is area-rigid in the sense that any area non-increasing spin map $f\colon M\to N$ from a closed connected oriented Riemannian manifold $M$ with non-vanishing $\hat{A}$-degree and $\text{scal}_M\geq \text{scal}_N\mathop{\circ}\nolimits f$ is a Riemannian submersion. This is due to Goette and Semmelmann and generalizes a result by Llarull. In this article, we show area-rigidity for not necessarily orientable manifolds with respect to a larger class of maps $f\colon M\to N$ by replacing the topological condition on the $\hat{A}$-degree by a less restrictive condition involving the so-called higher mapping degree. This includes fiber bundles over even dimensional spheres with enlargeable fibers, e.g. $pr_1\colon S^{2n}\times T^k \to S^{2n}$. We develop a technique to extract from a non-vanishing higher index a geometrically useful family of almost $\mathcal{D}$-harmonic sections. This also leads to a new proof of the fact that any closed connected spin manifold with non-negative scalar curvature and non-trivial Rosenberg index is Ricci flat.

Abstract:We discuss the existence of invariant anti-quasi-Sasakian (aqS) structures of maximal rank on compact homogeneous Riemannian manifolds and on nilpotent Lie groups. In the former case we obtain a non-existence result, while in the latter case we provide a complete classification. We also show that every compact aqS manifold has nonvanishing second Betti number.

Abstract:Generalizing the foundational work of Grove and Searle, the second author proved upper bounds on the ranks of isometry groups of closed Riemannian manifolds with positive intermediate Ricci curvature and established some topological rigidity results in the case of maximal symmetry rank and positive second intermediate Ricci curvature. Here, we recover even stronger topological rigidity, including results for higher intermediate Ricci curvatures and for manifolds with non-trivial fundamental groups.

Abstract:We prove that if $M^n(n\ge 4)$ is a compact Einstein manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy pinching condition $R_0>\sigma _{n}K_{\max }$, where $\sigma _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on $n$, then $M$ must be isometric to a spherical space form. Moreover, we prove that if an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein manifold satisfies $K_{\min }\ge \eta _n R_0,$ where $\eta _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is locally symmetric. It should be emphasized that the pinching constant $\eta _n$ is optimal when $n$ is even. We then obtain some rigidity theorems for Einstein manifolds under $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature pinching conditions. Finally we extend the theorems above to Einstein submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold, and prove that if $M$ is an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein submanifold in the simply connected space form $F^{N}(c)$ with constant curvature $c\ge 0$, and the normalized scalar curvature $R_0$ of $M$ satisfies $R_0>\frac{A_n}{A_n+4n-8}(c+H^2),$ where $A_n=n^3-5n^2+8n$, and $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$, then $M$ is isometric to a standard $n$-sphere.
Partial Scalar Curvatures and Topological Obstructions for Submanifolds

Abstract:We investigate specific intrinsic curvatures $\rho_k$ (where $1\leq k\leq n$) that interpolate between the minimum Ricci curvature $\rho_1$ and the normalized scalar curvature $\rho_n=\rho$ of $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. For $n$-dimensional submanifolds in space forms, these curvatures satisfy an inequality involving the mean curvature $H$ and the normal scalar curvature $\rho^\perp$, which reduces to the well-known DDVV inequality when $k=n$. We derive topological obstructions for compact $n$-dimensional submanifolds based on universal lower bounds of the $L^{n/2}$-norms of certain functions involving $\rho_k,H$ and $\rho^\perp$. These obstructions are expressed in terms of the Betti numbers. Our main result applies for any $1\leq k \leq n-1$, but it generally fails for $k=n$, where the involved norm vanishes precisely for Wintgen ideal submanifolds. We demonstrate this by providing a method of constructing new compact 3-dimensional minimal Wintgen ideal submanifolds in even-dimensional spheres. Specifically, we prove that such submanifolds exist in $\mathbb{S}^6$ with arbitrarily large first Betti number.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that the Clifford torus S-1(root 1-r(2)) x Sn-1(r) is the only closed hypersurface in the unit sphere Sn+1(1) with infinite fundamental group, which satisfy r(2) >= (n-1)/n, Ric(M) <= C_(H), and S <= S + (H). Moreover, we give a characterization of Clifford torus S-1(root 1-r(2)) x Sn-1 (r) with r(2) = 2(n-1)+nH(2)+/-vertical bar H vertical bar root n(2)H(2)+4(n-1)/2n(1+H-2).

Abstract:Let F be a field, and n≥p≥r>0 be integers. In a recent article, Rubei has determined, when F is the field of real numbers, the greatest possible dimension for an affine subspace of n –by– p matrices with entries in F in which all the elements have rank r . In this note, we generalize her result to an arbitrary field with more than r+1 elements, and we classify the spaces that reach the maximal dimension as a function of the classification of the affine subspaces of invertible matrices of Ms(F) with dimension (s2) . The latter is known to be connected to the classification of nonisotropic quadratic forms over F up to congruence.

Abstract:By using the Yamabe flow, we prove that if $(M^n,g)$, $n\geq3$, is an $n$-dimensional locally conformally flat complete Riemannian manifold $Rc\geq \epsilon Rg>0$, where $\epsilon>0$ is a uniformly constant, then $M^n$ must be compact. Our result shows that Hamilton's pinching conjecture also holds for higher dimensional case if we assume additionally the metric is locally conformally flat.

Abstract:Let $1\leq p\leq n$ be two positive integers. For a linearly nondegenerate holomorphic mapping $f\colon\mathbb{C}^p\rightarrow\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C})$ of maximal rank intersecting a family of hyperplanes in general position, we obtain a Cartan's type Second Main Theorem in which the counting functions are truncated to level $n+1-p$. Our result strengthens the classical results of Stoll and Vitter, and interpolates the important works of Cartan and Carlson-Griffiths.

Abstract:In this short note, we provide a quantitative global Poincaré inequality for one forms on a closed Riemannian four manifold, in terms of an upper bound on the diameter, a positive lower bound on the volume, and a two-sided bound on Ricci curvature. This seems to be the first non-trivial result giving such an inequality without any higher curvature assumptions. The proof is based on a Hodge theoretic result on orbifolds, a comparison for fundamental groups, and a spectral convergence with respect to Gromov-Hausdorff convergence, via a degeneration result to orbifolds by Anderson.
