Abstract:Podosphaera girardiniae ( Erysiphaceae , Podosphaera sect. Sphaerotheca ), identified in China on Girardinia suborbiculata , is described, illustrated, and compared with allied species. The phylogeny of this new species has been inferred from internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and 28S rDNA sequence analyses.

Abstract:In this study, 24 non-marine ostracod species were found in 142 samples collected from diverse water bodies from Hainan Island, south China. Among them, a new species Pseudocypretta lineata n. sp. is described and illustrated. Twelve species are new records for China. Among them, six species are identified: Microdarwinula zimmeri (Menzel, 1916), Pseudocypretta lineata n. sp., Pseudostrandesia mamarilorum (Victor Fernando, 1981c), Stenocypris malayica Victor Fernando, 1981b, Stenocypris orientalis Victor Fernando, 1981b and Strandesia freyi Victor Fernando, 1981c. Six species are left in open nomenclature: Batucypretta sp., Candonopsis? sp., Cypridoidea gen. et sp. indet. 1, Cypridoidea gen. et sp. indet. 2, Cyprinotus cf. kimberleyensis McKenzie, 1966 and Vestalenula sp. Additionally, a re-description of Strandesia freyi is provided.

Abstract:Three new species, Pseudocandona cheni sp. nov., Cyclocypris pangi sp. nov., and Tonnacypris rectangularis sp. nov., collected from northern China, are described in this study. Pseudocandona cheni, of the compressa group, is difficult to be distinguished from other members of the same group by carapace morphology alone, but can be readily recognised by the structure of the hemipenis comprised of a long lobe a, distally inflated lobe h, and exteriorly pointed lobe b, as well as thick trunks of the male fifth limb endopodites. Cyclocypris pangi, despite its similarity in carapace morphology to its congeners, can be identified based on the morphology of the hemipenis, which bears a slender, slightly curved lobe h, and an S-shaped process accompanying lobe b, in addition to the rectangular trunk of the male fifth limb endopodite. On the other hand, Tonnacypris rectangularis, described on the basis of females only, can be distinguished from other Tonnacypris Diebel & Pietrzeniuk, 1975 representatives by its distinct sub-rectangular carapace alone. Other differences include the length of the swimming setae, the length of the distal claws on the second an-tennae, and the morphology of the pincer organ on the seventh limb. This study contributes to the poorly known extant non-marine ostracod fauna of Inner Mongolia and Beijing, and generally to the central-eastern Palaearctic region. In addition, the known distribution range of Tonnacypris is extended eastwardly by T. rectangularis. The valve-morphology data are useful for identifying fossil/sub-fossil representatives.

Abstract:A new genus Songius is established and two new species - Songius rugosus from Qixia Mountain and Laoshan Forest Park, Jiangsu, and Tiantangzhai, Dabie Mountain, Anhui, and Songius bicruris from Tiantangzhai - are described. A novel surface structure of the pygidial tergum was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The genus is established on the basis of the distinctive appearance of the modification of the surface structure of the pygidial tergum.

Abstract:The morphology of two freshwater urostylid species, Neourostylopsis flava spec. nov. and Pseudourostyla subtropica Chen et al., 2014, isolated from freshwater ponds in northern and southern China, respectively, was investigated following examination of specimens in vivo and following protargol staining. Neourostylopsis flava spec. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics: body size 150-220 x 50-75 mu m in vivo; yellow in colour; bright yellow to yellow-brownish spherical cortical granules densely arranged along marginal cirral rows and in irregular short rows on dorsal side; adoral zone with 40-55 membranelles; six to eight frontal, three or four buccal, two pretransverse ventral and seven to nine transverse cirri; 27-40 midventral pairs extending to about anterior 55% of cell; four or five left and four right marginal rows; freshwater habitat. A redescription of a freshwater population of P. subtropica is also provided. Phylogenetic analyses based on small subunit ribosomal DNA sequences shows that P. subtropica and N. flava spec. nov. group with their congeners and both Neourostylopsis and Pseudourostyla are monophyletic. Abstract:In this paper five new records for the Chinese flat bug fauna are reported: Aradus angularis Sahlberg 1886, Aradus betulae (Linnaeus 1758), Aradus distinctus Fieber 1860, Aradus tonkinensis Kormilev & Heiss 1976, and Aradus rysakovi Kiritshenko 1951. Aradus wuzhisanensis Liu 1981from Hainan Province is synonymised with Aradus candidatus Bergroth 1889, a species known from Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos. A new species, Aradus gaoligongensis n. sp. from Sichuan Province, belongs to the “transiens”-group and is described and figured. In addition, new distribution data are given for 8 Aradus species.

Abstract:In this study, 192 samples were collected and analyzed from diverse water bodies in the Tiantong National Forest Park and Dongqian lake in Zhejiang Province, China. Twenty living ostracod species were identified, belonging to four families, eight subfamilies and 15 genera. Among them, two species are new, belonging to the genera Ilyocypris and Schellencandona; seven species, including Dolerocypris ikeyai Smith and Kamiya, 2006, Pseudocandona abei Smith and Janz, 2008, Stenocypris hirutai Smith and Kamiya, 2006, S. viridis Okubo, 1990, Tanycypris alfonsi Nagler et al., 2014, T. centa Chang et al., 2012 and Vestalenula cornelia Smith et al., 2006, are new records for China; nine species are reported only from Asia: Candonopsis (Candonopsis) transgrediens Brehm, 1923, Chrissia dongqianhuensis Kong et al., 2014, Dolerocypris ikeyai Smith and Kamiya, 2006, Ilyocypris dui n. sp., Pseudocandona abei Smith and Janz, 2008, Schellencandona dui n. sp., Stenocypris hirutai Smith and Kamiya, 2006, S. viridis Okubo, 1990 and Vestalenula cornelia Smith et al., 2006. Abstract:This study describes two new species of Plagiostriata: P. xiapuensis sp. nov. and P. pingtanensis sp. nov., both collected in the intertidal zone of Fujian Province, China. This is the first record of species in the genus Plagiostriata in China. The morphological characteristics of the two new species are discussed in detail using light and scanning electron microscopy. Plagiostriata xiapuensis sp. nov. is characterized by its lower stria density and simple volae-covered areolae compared to the higher stria density, small and complex volae–covered areolae in P. pingtanensis sp. nov. The morphological characteristics of these two species significantly differ from those of P. goreensis and P. baltica in sternum and areolae features, which is also discussed herein.

Abstract:One new species of the genus Pseudopoda Jäger, 2000, Pseudopodadeformis Gong & Zhong, sp. nov. (♂, ♀), is described and documented with digital images from Shennongjia Forestry District, Hubei Province, China, based on morphology and DNA barcodes. This new species is separated from other Pseudopoda species by the unique type of internal ducts of the female vulva that are curved longitudinally, forming a narrow triangle or trapezoidal shape. In addition, DNA barcodes for this species are provided.

Abstract:During an extensive survey of diatoms from the Great Xing'an Mountains, China, two unusual species of the genus Pinnularia Ehrenb. were discovered. Based on both light and scanning electron microscopic observations, both species are described as new: Pinnularia subaldenii sp. nov. and Pinnularia paludosa sp. nov. The morphology of both species is compared to other similar species of the genus. Both have no fascia in the central area. Pinnularia subaldenii is distinguished by the clearly different central area and continuous raphe on the valve interior. Pinnularia paludosa is distinguished by its large dimensions and distinct crescent-shaped markings in the central area. Environmental conditions in the habitats containing the two new species are presented and discussed.

Abstract:Several new archaeocyaths are described from the lower Cambrian Xiannudong Formation of Fucheng, Shaanxi Province, and from the lower Cambrian Mingxisi Formation of Meitan, Guizhou Province (South China). One new genus ( Qinlingocyathus nov. gen.) and four new species ( Qinlingocyathus astomus nov. gen., nov. sp., Gandinocyathus pinguis nov. sp., Thalamocyathus mui nov. sp., and Dailycyathus aporosus nov. sp.) are erected. These discoveries greatly expand our knowledge of the morphology of key archaeocyathan taxa and of the diversity of early Cambrian archaeocyathan faunas of the Yangtze Platform.

Abstract:Pectinariids are a family of polychaetes commonly found in shallow coastal waters around the world, but their diversity is poorly known along the coasts of Asia. Here we describe Amphictene alata sp. n. (Pectinariidae), based on 15 specimens collected from the coastal waters of Guangdong in the northern South China Sea. This new species can be distinguished from all other 13 described species and one described subspecies of Amphictene by having a pair of dorsolateral lobes on segment 3, a pair of large lateral lobes on segment 21, and more scaphal hooks (26 to 37 pairs).

Abstract:The poorly known Anacharitinae fauna from China is studied. Two species of genus Aegilips Haliday, 1835 (which only had one species previously recorded there) are recorded in China. The genera Anacharis Dalman, 1823 and Xyalaspis Hartig, 1843 are recorded for the first time with two and four species present respectively. A new species of Xyalaspis, X. ribesi sp. n., is described. Diagnostic characters of the new species are illustrated, and data about biology, distribution and morphological variability of the Chinese Anacharitinae are discussed.
