Abstract:Inthispaper,an objective increment methodis introduced forno-wait flowshopswithmakespan minimization, whichcancalculate makespan ofanew schedule directly fromthatofits parent andcanjudge whether thenewschedule isbetter thanits parent ornot. Specific makespan increments areanalyzedfor insertion andpair-wise exchange, twofundamental operations in mostheuristics forflowshops. Moreover, a composite heuristic basedonmakespan increment isproposed. Experimental results showthat theproposal outperforms thebestexisting algorithms SA2,RAJandGRforthe problem considered anditneedsminimal CPU time amongthefourcompared algorithms, whichimplies that theproposal isdesirable forlarge-scale no-wait flow shops inpractical manufacturing systems.
