Abstract:Experiments in assisted living confirm that such systems can provide context-aware services that enable occupants to remain active and independent. They also demonstrate that abnormal sensor events hamper the correct identification of critical (and potentially life-threatening) situations, and that existing learning, estimation, and time-based approaches are inaccurate and inflexible when applied to multiple people sharing a living space. We propose a technique that integrates the semantics of sensor readings with statistical outlier detection. We evaluate the technique against four real-world datasets that include multiple individuals, and show consistent rates of anomaly detection across different environments.

Abstract:With a rising ageing population, smart home technologies have been demonstrated as a promising paradigm to enable technology-driven healthcare delivery. Smart home technologies, composed of advanced sensing, computing, and communication technologies, offer an unprecedented opportunity to keep track of behaviours and activities of the elderly and provide context-aware services that enable the elderly to remain active and independent in their own homes. However, experiments in developed prototypes demonstrate that abnormal sensor events hamper the correct identification of critical (and potentially life-threatening) situations, and that existing learning, estimation, and time-based approaches to situation recognition are inaccurate and inflexible when applied to multiple people sharing a living space. We propose a novel technique, called CLEAN, that integrates the semantics of sensor readings with statistical outlier detection. We evaluate the technique against four real-world datasets across different environments including the datasets with multiple residents. The results have shown that CLEAN can successfully detect sensor anomaly and improve activity recognition accuracies.

Abstract:In the era of information technology, the elderly and disabled can be monitored with numerous intelligent devices. Sensors can be implanted into their home for continuous mobility assistance and non-obtrusive disease prevention. Modern sensor-embedded houses, or smart houses, cannot only assist people with reduced physical functions but help resolve the social isolation they face. They are capable of providing assistance without limiting or disturbing the resident's daily routine, giving him or her greater comfort, pleasure, and well-being. This article presents an international selection of leading smart home projects, as well as the associated technologies of wearable/implantable monitoring systems and assistive robotics. The latter are often designed as components of the larger smart home environment. The paper will conclude by discussing future challenges of the domain.

Abstract:Humanity's way of life has been irreversibly transformed by new technological advancements during the past decades. Although such technological innovations have been gradually transposed into architecture, their full integration is not yet achieved. This article addresses the issue of incorporating cutting-edge technologies (such as smart thermostats, lighting sensors, security cameras, remote commands, graphic user interfaces, smartphones, mobile apps, gestures, voice commands, etc.) into urban small-scale residential architecture, in the future evolution context. For this purpose, a methodology was conceived that the main concepts regarding automation and information networks were researched, as well as their practice in some reference architecture cases. The guidelines for the prototype architectonic design were defined based on the previous knowledge acquired. Then, a prototype design of an intelligent home was iteratively developed as a machine for living in constant change. It was expected to contribute to increasing and disseminating knowledge in these fields, explaining their benefits and limitations. The prototype design presented in this article contributes to sensitizing architecture professionals to the importance of integrated and systematized thinking in all procedures of a smart home design.

Abstract:The integration of LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology with both active and passive sensors presents a transformative opportunity for the development of smart home systems. This paper explores how active sensors, such as motion detectors and ultrasonic sensors, and passive sensors, including temperature and humidity sensors, work together to enhance connectivity and efficiency within diverse environments while addressing the challenges of modern living. By leveraging LoRaWAN long-range capabilities and low power consumption, the proposed framework enables effective data transmission from remote sensors, facilitating applications such as smart agriculture, environmental monitoring, and comprehensive home automation. Active sensors emit energy to detect changes in their surroundings, providing real-time data crucial for security and automation, while passive sensors capture ambient energy to monitor environmental conditions, ensuring resource efficiency and user comfort. The synergy between LoRaWAN and these various sensor types promotes innovation, contributing to a more responsive and sustainable living experience. Furthermore, this research highlights the adaptability of the proposed system, allowing for seamless integration of new devices and advanced functionalities. As the landscape of smart home technology continues to evolve, ongoing research in this area will yield advanced solutions tailored to user needs, ultimately paving the way for smarter, safer, and more efficient living environments.

Abstract:Deep learning technology can improve sensing efficiency and has the ability to discover potential patterns in data; the efficiency of user behavior recognition in the field of smart homes has been further improved, making the recognition process more intelligent and humanized. This paper analyzes the optical sensors commonly used in smart homes and their working principles through case studies and explores the technical framework of user behavior recognition based on optical sensors. At the same time, CiteSpace (Basic version 6.2.R6) software is used to visualize and analyze the related literature, elaborate the main research hotspots and evolutionary changes of optical sensor-based smart home user behavior recognition, and summarize the future research trends. Finally, fully utilizing the advantages of cloud computing technology, such as scalability and on-demand services, combining typical life situations and the requirements of smart home users, a smart home data collection and processing technology framework based on elderly fall monitoring scenarios is designed. Based on the comprehensive research results, the application and positive impact of optical sensors in smart home user behavior recognition were analyzed, and inspiration was provided for future smart home user experience research.

Abstract:Pervasive sensing facilitated by Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) technologies offered the integration of modern technology into a daily routine. The smart sensing approach offers the ability to sense the ambient parameters and use of different objects in the urban environment. Identification and monitoring technologies, WSNs, wireless communication protocols, and dispersed intelligence for objects are primitive elements of smart environmental solution. The WSNs with the application of Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing are uplifting the smart home solutions and applications. The present research work aims to develop smart home and building solutions based on IoT and cloud computing. The cloud implementation using free cloud space, which is based on collaboration between public and private clouds, is presented. Additionally the research work recorded recent practical challenges and limitations encounter while designing the IoT-based smart environment. The research identifies the IoT idea through the conjunction of WSNs, the internet and distributed computing with data mining and machine learning an approach to apply at smart home to benefit and humankind.

Abstract:Both sensor networks and data fusion are essential foundations for developing the smart home Internet of Things (IoT) and related fields. We proposed a multi-channel sensor network construction method involving hardware, acquisition, and synchronization in the smart home environment and a smart home data fusion method (SHDFM) for multi-modal data (position, gait, voice, pose, facial expression, temperature, and humidity) generated in the smart home environment to address the configuration of a multi-channel sensor network, improve the quality and efficiency of various human activities and environmental data collection, and reduce the difficulty of multi-modal data fusion in the smart home. SHDFM contains 5 levels, with inputs and outputs as criteria to provide recommendations for multi-modal data fusion strategies in the smart home. We built a real experimental environment using the proposed method in this paper. To validate our method, we created a real experimental environment - a physical setup in a home-like scenario where the multi-channel sensor network and data fusion techniques were deployed and evaluated. The acceptance and testing results show that the proposed construction and data fusion methods can be applied to the examples with high robustness, replicability, and scalability. Besides, we discuss how smart homes with multi-channel sensor networks can support digital twins.

Abstract:This paper presents a comprehensive review of the various technologies employed in the realm of smart home automation. The evolution of home environments into interconnected ecosystems has been fueled by cutting-edge technologies, and this review seeks to shed light on the prominent roles played by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (wireless Fidelity), Internet of Things (IOT (internet of things)), gesture recognition, and machine learning. The study delves into the distinctive attributes, applications, and implications of each technology in the context of smart home automation. It explores the functionalities and advantages of Bluetooth-based smart home systems, which allow seamless communication and control of devices within short distances. Likewise, Wi-Fi (wireless Fidelity)-based systems provide wider connectivity and remote control, enhancing the convenience and accessibility of smart home features. IOT (internet of things)-based solutions are examined for their capability to interconnect and synchronize a multitude of devices and sensors, creating a cohesive ecosystem that responds to user needs. Gesture recognition technology is highlighted for its intuitive and contactless interaction with smart home devices, adding a layer of convenience and futuristic appeal. Machine learning's pivotal role in smart home automation is thoroughly discussed, showcasing its capacity to predict, adapt, and enhance user's experiences. From activity recognition to energy management, machine learning's ability to analyze data and make informed decisions elevates the overall intelligence and responsiveness of smart homes. The review critically evaluates the challenges, trends, and prospects of these technologies, emphasizing factors such as data security, interoperability, and user experience. By providing an overarching panorama of the technologies, this paper envisions a future where smart homes evolve into indispensable components of daily life, seamlessly integrating these technologies to offer unparalleled comfort, efficiency, and convenience. As smart home automation continues to shape our living spaces, this review contributes valuable insights to the ongoing dialogue surrounding its advancements.

Abstract:Recent advances in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and the reduction in the cost of sensors have encouraged the development of smart environments, such as smart homes. Smart homes can offer home assistance services to improve the quality of life, autonomy and health of their residents, especially for the elderly and dependent. To provide such services, a smart home must be able to understand the daily activities of its residents. Techniques for recognizing human activity in smart homes are advancing daily. But new challenges are emerging every day. In this paper, we present recent algorithms, works, challenges and taxonomy of the field of human activity recognition in a smart home through ambient sensors. Moreover, since activity recognition in smart homes is a young field, we raise specific problems, missing and needed contributions. But also propose directions, research opportunities and solutions to accelerate advances in this field.

Abstract:This paper aims to develop a multisensor data fusion technology-based smart home system by integrating wearable intelligent technology, artificial intelligence, and sensor fusion technology. We have developed the following three systems to create an intelligent smart home environment: (1) a wearable motion sensing device to be placed on residents' wrists and its corresponding 3D gesture recognition algorithm to implement a convenient automated household appliance control system; (2) a wearable motion sensing device mounted on a resident's feet and its indoor positioning algorithm to realize an effective indoor pedestrian navigation system for smart energy management; (3) a multisensor circuit module and an intelligent fire detection and alarm algorithm to realize a home safety and fire detection system. In addition, an intelligent monitoring interface is developed to provide in real-time information about the smart home system, such as environmental temperatures, CO concentrations, communicative environmental alarms, household appliance status, human motion signals, and the results of gesture recognition and indoor positioning. Furthermore, an experimental testbed for validating the effectiveness and feasibility of the smart home system was built and verified experimentally. The results showed that the 3D gesture recognition algorithm could achieve recognition rates for automated household appliance control of 92.0%, 94.8%, 95.3%, and 87.7% by the 2-fold cross-validation, 5-fold cross-validation, 10-fold cross-validation, and leave-one-subject-out cross-validation strategies. For indoor positioning and smart energy management, the distance accuracy and positioning accuracy were around 0.22% and 3.36% of the total traveled distance in the indoor environment. For home safety and fire detection, the classification rate achieved 98.81% accuracy for determining the conditions of the indoor living environment.

Abstract:Now days, the home environment is still much less supportive of life for the elderly, most elderly living at home need a companion to help them. Safety, health, happiness and independence will be difficult for them to get even the elderly will be further away from the surrounding environment. Based on population projection 2017 data there are 23.66 million elderly people in Indonesia and predicted in 2020 there are 27.08 million people elderly. Smart homes that are currently widely studied have not focused on elderly; most smart homes only provide a sense of security and convenience for adult residents. And this will be a problem that until now has not solved the improvement of human life through technology to get happiness, care and health especially for the elderly. In many cases of the elderly, it is easier to send them to live in a nursing home and that keeps them separated from their families for the rest of their lives. That's what makes them less happiness. Orange Technology is a collection of technological elements to improve human life by getting happiness, Care and health. This study reviewed the journals of scientific databases such as IEEE explore, ACM digital library and Proquest published from 2002 to 2017. From the search results obtained 54 papers that will answer the scientific questions of this research. The result of this research is a framework of smart house that has Sensor, Monitoring, Wireless, Scalability, Low cost, GPS and ease of installation and maintenance as components of smart house of orange technology for elderly.

Abstract:Smart home technology is emerging rapidly as an exciting new paradigm. Appliances inside the home can be watched over, managed, and controlled by the consumer. Additionally, the gadgets are linked together via the internet, enabling the user to remotely control features like home lighting, air conditioner, and security systems providing sustainable approach. To aid the elderly and others with disabilities, this paper’s major goal is to teach consumers how to properly handle their household appliances. Thus, a smart home is being developed where the environmental conditions like air conditioner, television and lights adjust themselves with the person entering the room or even according to the weather conditions. Due to the complexity, in this paper an Microcontroller, LCD and other necessary materials in place of TV, AC and light are used to show that if a house consists of two or more people how the LCD will adjust itself and displays the standard required channel, likewise same LCD adjusts itself to the standard temperature required by the person and similarly adjusts itself according to the person entering into the room. Additionally, if it is raining outside the LCD will display a monsoon mood song, this is done using rain sensor. If these sensors are connected to the cloud, then the information related to the person entering the room is stored. This information can be accessed using your mobile.
