Abstract:The rapid and efficient degradation of antibiotic wastewater represents a critical challenge in water treatment. Spinel ferrite heterogeneous catalysts often exhibit suboptimal catalytic activity and degradation rates for antibiotic wastewater due to the occupancy of metal ions and the limited regeneration of equivalent to Fe2+ ions. Strategies such as metal ion doping and semiconductor compositing can partially address these issues. This study introduces a Type-II heterostructured photo-Fenton-like catalyst, (Cu, Mg)Fe2O4@g-C3N4, synthesized using saprolite laterite ore and urea, which demonstrates high efficiency in degrading a range of tetracyclines (TCs). We extensively analyzed the influence of key factors on the preparation and catalytic performance of these composites. Notably, this catalyst achieved a TC degradation efficiency exceeding 96.5 % and a total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate of up to 76.5 % within just 30 min at a relatively low H2O2 concentration, highlighting its exceptional catalytic ability. Its remarkable recycling stability and broad-spectrum antibiotic degradation capability emphasize its potential for industrial applications. A detailed examination of the catalytic mechanism, focusing on the identification of the primary active species and the determination of intermediates, was performed. This study illustrates a straightforward and cost-effective method for developing heterostructured catalysts, offering a novel approach to the rapid and efficient degradation of antibiotics in wastewater.
