Abstract:Cable is an important component of cable-supported bridges. In short cable tension measurement, traditional vibration frequency methods face challenges in complex boundary processing and bending stiffness determination. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a short cable tension measurement method based on axis-shift imaging and multiple mode shape fitting. The main novelties include two aspects: (1) A non-contact axis-shift orthophotography method is introduced to assist in high-precision positioning of targets on the cable. This method shifts the field of view while maintaining the perpendicular relationship between the optical axis and the object plane. So it effectively solves the challenge of quickly determining the scale factor at each target and eliminates the need for installing additional expensive inclinometer in tilt photography. (2) A cable force estimation method based on multi-modal shape fitting is proposed, which does not require knowing the value of bending stiffness. Nonlinear least-squares fitting is performed to identify the dimensionless parameters of the mode shape functions. The bending stiffness is treated as an implicit parameter in cable force calculation, which considers the influence of bending stiffness while avoids the error in obtaining it from section characteristic. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method are validated through laboratory cable test and field experiment on an arch bridge.
