Abstract:Methanol high-pressure direct injection combustion is a potential route for achieving upto 95 % methanol substitution ratio in the compression ignition combustion. Adding lubricity improvers to methanol is an effective method for mitigating the rapid wear of high-pressure direct injection systems. In this study, the effects of 1 % and 2 % lubricity improver(ethoxylated oleylamine) addition on the spray characteristics of methanol were investigated under high injection pressures and high ambient temperatures and pressures. The empirical models were developed for predicting the high-pressure spray tip penetrations of methanol and lubricity-improved methanol. The results show that the lubricity improver addition signficantly increases viscosity of methonal, and the wear scar diameter of methanol with 1 % of the lubricity improver addition meet the requirment in China VI National Diesel Standard. Adding a lubricity improver to methanol increase the spray tip penetration and the spray area signficantly at the ambient temperature of 600 K, and 800 K, and the atomization and evaporation process are significanly inhibited by 2 % ethoxylated oleylamine addition. With minor modification, the Arai model and Anupam model can well predict the liquid-phase spray tip penetration of methanol under nonevaporation conditions and evaporation conditions, respectively.
