Abstract:Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) projects fringe patterns onto the surface, captures these patterns reflected from the surface, and reconstructs the desired 3-D shape from the captured patterns. However, the captured patterns will be blurred caused by the camera defocusing out of the depth-of-field (DoF). The depth changes of the measured object will cause loss of details in a large DoF, thus reducing the 3-D accuracy. This paper formulates the phase error model of large-DoF FPP and concludes that the phase error can be reduced through point spread function (PSF) compensation. From which, the single-pixel imaging-based PSF compensation method is introduced, which calculates the spatial-varying PSF in a large DoF by treating each camera pixel as a single-pixel detector. Then the PSF compensated images are used to reconstruct an accurate 3-D shape in a large DoF. Accordingly, the Fourier slice algorithm is applied for the PSF compensation to accelerate the data acquisition. Both theoretical analyses and experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can preserve the details without loss of accuracy for 3-D measurement in a large DoF.
