Abstract:Although the implementation of the von Neumann architecture has greatly increased computer processing speed, the exponential expansion of memory capacity poses a potential dilemma by creating a bottleneck between the central processing unit and memory bandwidth. Neuromorphic devices, drawing inspiration from the human brain's structure, may provide a solution to this predicament. However, the materials utilized in neuromorphic devices are primarily composed of nonorganic and nondegradable materials, posing adverse impacts on the environment and even harmful to people's health. Here, for the first time, we develop a neutral polysaccharide extracted from the tubers of konjac, konjac glucomannan, as the gate dielectric to achieve artificial synaptic transistors. The resultant devices exhibit excellent transistor performances, which can be ascribed to the proton-related electrical-double-layer effect. Furthermore, synaptic behaviors including postsynaptic excitatory current, paired-pulse facilitation, high-pass filtering, and spatiotemporal dynamic logic are successfully mimicked. These results show that the proposed device can open an avenue for future green-brain-inspired neuromorphic applications.
