Abstract:As the spaceborne system becomes increasingly important in modern technology, the study of scattering by objects in plasmas is crucial for radiation and target detection applications. In this article, the theory of scattering by an obliquely oriented conducting cylinder immersed in an anisotropic magnetoplasma is investigated. The focus lies on proposing an analytical approach to calculate the induced current, scattered field, and generalized radar cross section (GRCS) of the cylinder. By considering the effects of cylinder sizes, current inhomogeneity, plasma anisotropy, and the angle between the cylinder axis and the static magnetic field, a system of two integral equations for two induced current components is deduced and solved for the first time. The scattered field and the GRCS are then obtained in very low frequency (VLF) and middle frequency (MF) bands. Computations and analysis indicate that the current induced on the cylinder is not only centralized in the middle part but also distributed on other positions with a decreasing trend. The scattering pattern in an anisotropic magnetoplasma is concentrated in the direction of the geomagnetic field. It is also found that the GRCS will increase with the cylinder radius.
