Abstract:Entrepreneurship education in higher education institutions should cultivate not only students′innovation and entrepreneurial mindsets,but also their entrepreneurial skills needed in the process of entrepreneurship.Nowadays,the lack of entrepreneurial skills has become the fundamental obstacle that hinders university students′entrepreneurial activities.Based on expert interviews and literature review,this paper proposes a " pyramid model " which views entrepreneurial skills as a hierarchical construct.At the bottom of this pyramid model are " entrepreneurial basic skills ",including creativity,problem-solving and decision making;at the top of it are " entrepreneurial practical skills ",including opportunity skill,resource marshaling skill,entrepreneurial management skill and professional skill.

Abstract:Science, Technology and Engineering Entrepreneurship Education (STEE) might raise student awareness towards the opportunities seeking challenges of entrepreneurship to promote technology transfer. However, despite the face validity of teaching technology entrepreneurship, there has traditionally been a weak link between the fields of research entrepreneurship education, and technology management and commercialization literature. In this introductory article, we ask whether entrepreneurship could be taught to students in engineering, science and technology majors via the use of dedicated teaching models. We highlight the prevailing approaches in STEE and identify two main research streams. We discuss promising research avenues for extending research on STEE focusing on the background and profile of target audiences, and assessing their impact on students' learning outcomes. Finally, we provided summaries of the papers in the special issue and how they contribute to wider understanding of the effective models of STEE.
Entrepreneurship Education Matters: Exploring Secondary Vocational School Students’ Entrepreneurial Intention in China

Abstract:Based on the theory of entrepreneurial human capital, this study employs questionnaires from 730 secondary vocational school students to explore the status quo of entrepreneurship education and the influence of entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurial knowledge, and entrepreneurial competence on entrepreneurial intention. The study results prove the following. First, the participation rate of entrepreneurship education in secondary vocational schools is much higher than in their counterpart (academic schools), with more than half of secondary vocational students reporting having received entrepreneurship education of diverse types. Second, students evaluated themselves with relatively high entrepreneurial competence and intention, although they answered “unclear” to entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurship education. Third, motivation and leadership, as well as enterprise knowledge, play mediating roles through which entrepreneurship education affects entrepreneurial intention, and represent two types of entrepreneurial human capital-entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial competence. The implications of effective educational implementation are discussed.

Abstract:Entrepreneurship education is growing worldwide, but key educational and didactical issues remain. What are we talking about when we talk about entrepreneurship education? What are we really doing when we teach or educate people in entrepreneurship, in terms of the nature and the impact of our interventions? What do we know about the appropriateness, the relevancy, the coherency, the social usefulness and the efficiency of our initiatives and practices in entrepreneurship education? Addressing these issues and challenges, this article suggests that at least two major evolutions might reinforce the future of entrepreneurship education. First, we need strong intellectual and conceptual foundations, drawing from the fields of entrepreneurship and education, to strengthen our entrepreneurship courses. And finally, we also need to deeply reflect on our practices, as researchers and educators, taking a more critical stance toward a too often adopted “taken for granted” position.

Abstract:Do entrepreneurship education programs (EEPs) really influence participants’ attitudes and intention toward entrepreneurship? How is this influence related to past experience and how does it persist? Researchers and entrepreneurship education stakeholders alike have been looking into this question for quite a while, with a view to validating the efficacy of such programs. The authors of this paper propose to operationalize the concept of entrepreneurial intention and its antecedents in an attempt to address those issues. In particular, we propose an original research design where (1) we measure the initial state and persistence of the impact and not only short‐term effects; (2) we deal with a compulsory program, allowing to avoid self‐selection biases; and (3) we deal with an homogeneous “compact” program rather than programs combining multiple teaching components whose effects cannot be disentangled. Our main research results show that the positive effects of an EEP are all the more marked when previous entrepreneurial exposure has been weak or inexistent. Conversely, for those students who had previously significantly been exposed to entrepreneurship, the results highlight significant countereffects of the EEP on those participants.

Abstract:Creativity and innovativeness are among the most essential attributes of engineering graduates and also of successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship, or the process of starting a new venture, is one of the main roads to new technological innovations. This paper presents two novel models of entrepreneurship education integrated in computer science and computer engineering curricula and geared towards computing students with entrepreneurial intentions. To expose all computing students to entrepreneurial ideas and to spark their entrepreneurial spirit, we also developed several entrepreneurship add-on modules for existing CS and CE disciplines. All these programs have been developed and implemented at Hofstra University, with modules implemented also at Qatar University. Preliminary evaluation results are presented and discussed.

Abstract:Research into entrepreneurship education is on the rise, yet the assessment of causality resulting from various teaching methods and their impacts on students and society at large remains limited. Consequently, incorporating experimental designs into entrepreneurship education research becomes imperative to move the field forward. Establishing cause-and-effect relationships, discerning which approaches yield desired outcomes (and which do not), contributes to a clearer understanding of the connections between educational activities and their results. This special issue underscores the importance of experiments as a methodological tool for showcasing causality. In this editorial, we expand on the reasons for the need for more experiments within the field. Additionally, we feature an interview with Dr. Thomas D. Cook, a pioneer in education research experiments, and offer an overview of the articles included in this special issue. We finish with a shortlist of tips for anyone interested in conducting experiments.

Abstract:Despite the valuable contributions of earlier learning studies, the specific analysis of how entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) learn has been sidelined in the literature. Significant research opportunities remain open in various unexplored realms. By adopting a multidisciplinary perspective that combines a variety of frameworks (i.e., organizational, economic, and innovation management), the collection of 11 studies of this special issue dedicated to learning delivers valuable insights into how entrepreneurs and SMEs capitalize on learning processes, while identifying how these processes are affected by the type of experience (i.e., success and failure). This paper first overviews the contributions of the 11 papers included in the special issue. Next, we discuss a number of yet unresolved topics that deserve academic attention, paying special attention to entrepreneurs' direct and indirect experiences, knowledge obsolescence caused by technology upgrading, and the role of digital technologies—i.e., Internet-of-things and artificial intelligence—in the learning processes.

Abstract:<p>This study aims to review the field of Entrepreneurship Education (EE). The review examines 325 scientific articles published in refereed scientific journals from 1987 to 2017. The SciMat software was used to conduct an analysis of performance indicators and science mapping visualizations. The performance analysis results identified some of the field's most active and influential articles, journals, and authors. The science mapping visualization of co-word analysis results revealed EE research evolution. In general, we found that EE research has evolved from EE as part of an economic development strategy to the EE academic perspective. Furthermore, research themes showed that students, rather than teachers, have become the main agents of the educational process. The results of this bibliometric analysis enhance understanding of the evolution of EE research with a global overview of the relevant literature and its authors.</p>

Abstract:In higher education institutions, entrepreneurship learning based on successful entrepreneurial role models may promote education for sustainable development. Several theoretical perspectives, such as the human capital theory, the entrepreneurial self-efficacy and self-determination theory, argue that entrepreneurship education is positively correlated with entrepreneurial intentions of students, as it provides adequate know-how and skills and motivates them to develop their entrepreneurial careers. In entrepreneurship education programmes, exposure to successful entrepreneurial models could be a significant factor for stimulating students’ confidence in their ability to start a business and for improving their attitudes towards entrepreneurship. This study aims (i) to identify characteristics viewed by students as being specific to a successful entrepreneur, (ii) to establish the influence of exposure to successful entrepreneurial role models (chosen by students) during entrepreneurship education classes on student entrepreneurial intentions, and (iii) to assess how such exposure influences the attitudes of students towards entrepreneurship. For this purpose, the authors ran a pilot experiment with 30 graduate students enrolled in a Business Creation course using a research methodology that combined qualitative techniques with quantitative measures. Content and statistical analyses were utilised to examine differences in student entrepreneurial intentions and attitudes towards entrepreneurship after being exposed to successful entrepreneurial models. Our study provides evidence that entrepreneurship education based on successful entrepreneurial role models may positively influence the entrepreneurial attitudes and intentions of students and could lead to higher orientation of student perception towards social benefits of entrepreneurship (new jobs) compared to financial ones (high income). However, our findings stress that if educators want to improve the efficiency of education focused on developing entrepreneurial skills, graduate programmes should be designed differently for business and non-business students, since studying successful entrepreneurial stories impacts these two groups differently.

Abstract:Innovation models are key to fostering technology-focused entrepreneurship in higher education institutions (HEIs). These models create dynamic environments that encourage collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students and faculty. HEIs face several challenges in fostering entrepreneurship, including allocating sufficient financial and human resources, integrating entrepreneurship education across disciplines, and managing intellectual property. Overcoming these challenges requires HEIs to cultivate an entrepreneurial culture and establish strong partnerships with industry stakeholders. To achieve these goals, HEIs must adopt successful innovation models proven to work. This article presents an international case study highlighting such models and the factors contributing to their success. This study explores the implementation and impact of innovation models, specifically IDEATION and DEETECHTIVE, within HEIs to foster technology-focused entrepreneurship. By implementing numerous actions focusing on online education integration and the Quintuple Helix Innovation Model, these models support shifting engineering students' mindsets toward entrepreneurship. This research highlights the importance of academia–industry collaboration, international partnerships, and the integration of entrepreneurship education in technology-focused disciplines. This study presents two models. The first, IDEATION, focuses on open innovation and sharing economy aspects. This model underwent rigorous testing and refinement, evolving into the second model, DEETECHTIVE, which is more comprehensive and deep tech-focused. These models have been validated as effective frameworks for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation within HEIs. This study's findings underscore the potential of these models to enhance innovation capacity, foster an entrepreneurial culture, and create ecosystems rich in creativity and advancement. Practical implications include the establishment of open innovation-oriented structures and mechanisms, the development of specialized curriculum components, and the creation of enhanced collaboration platforms.
Development of conceptual model for entrepreneurship education

Abstract:This study develops a conceptual model of entrepreneurship education that can be applied to elementary, middle, and high school settings. To this end, we adopted a development research methodology. We derived the core values of entrepreneurship as “creation, practice, insight, and reflection” based on the results of demand surveys, literature, and case analysis and reflected on the core values and basic principles of creating entrepreneurship. A conceptual model for ten education was developed. An expert review was conducted twice, first and second, targeting entrepreneurship experts and school teachers, and revisions, supplements, and improvements were added by collecting the review opinions of experts. At the same time, to ensure validity during the expert review process, it was verified using triangular verification, member checking, and deriving Content Validity Index and Inter-Rater Agreement values. Finally, a final conceptual model of entrepreneurship education was presented. This study is expected to help teachers who wish to provide entrepreneurship education in school settings understand the concepts of entrepreneurship and design lessons.

Abstract:This study aims to examine the effect of entrepreneurship education and artificial intelligence (AI) development on entrepreneurial intentions while investigating the mediating role of perceived behavioral control. The proposed model also accounts for individual and contextual socioeconomic factors. This study tries to fill the gap in the entrepreneurship literature, which is still lacking with respect to the impact of new technologies on entrepreneurship intentions and shows conflicting results regarding the influence of entrepreneurship education. Our study surveyed 223 business students in Lebanon. The context of this study is of high importance, particularly since the country is currently facing a deep, multifaced political, economic, and financial crisis, and entrepreneurship might be considered an important channel for generating basic sources of income, steering the recovery process, and increasing Lebanese resilience against this highly unstable economy. The structural equation modeling technique (SEM) was conducted to validate the hypotheses. The results show that perceived behavioral control fully mediates the relations between performance expectancy of AI solutions, entrepreneurship education, and entrepreneurial intention. Risk aversion and social support exert a direct impact on entrepreneurial intentions. The findings highlight the need to account for entrepreneurship education and AI development when analyzing entrepreneurial intentions.

A systematic literature review of the evolution of pedagogy in entrepreneurial education research

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to create a better understanding of how entrepreneurial education research has evolved with regard to pedagogy over the past decades. The authors employed systematic review methodology to enable an in-depth analysis of the literature in a process that was both replicable and transparent. Guided by the research purpose, the systematic review of 395 articles published between January 1980 and December 2018 was influenced by a configurative approach aimed at interpreting and understanding the phenomenon under study. The analysis suggests that the scholarly discourse on pedagogy in entrepreneurial education research has developed over time from teacher-guided instructional models to more constructivist perspectives. A shift in the literature was also observed, where scholarly discussions moved from addressing the issue of teachability to a greater emphasis on learnability. Contemporary discussions centre on the theoretical and philosophical foundations of experience-based teaching and learning. The study illustrates how entrepreneurial education has evolved into a distinct research theme, characterized by a practice-oriented research agenda that emphasizes the need to connect teaching to "real-world" environments. The practice-oriented agenda has led to continued societal interest in promoting entrepreneurial education, while at the same time creating low academic legitimacy.

Abstract:The relationship between education and organizational financial efficiency can be described as tense and ambiguous. Therefore, issues of educational leadership inspired by models stemming from the business sector are currently hardly dealt with. Consequently, not much attention has been given to findings from the field of Business Financial Management in order to learn more from their models, theories and practices and, then, examine their applicability into educational management theory and practices. This seems even more important as schools have become a multifaceted pedagogical action field with many cross-sectional leadership tasks, which bear resemblance with business tasks. Against this background the current exploratory paper draws from international desktop research as well as previous research that the authors themselves were involved in. Thus, it offers an informed and insightful basis for reflection on the possible influences of Entrepreneurial Leadership in education, a concept where economic efficiency has to operate and collaborate complimentary to pedagogical leadership. Thus, the aspect of educational entrepreneurship that interests us includes individual persons in school management who, as pioneers, point out new paths and enable or even drive innovation in their schools. In order to do so, they scan their external environments looking for opportunities and creative solutions to complex educational issues.
