Abstract:Au nanoparticles are highly dispersed on Mg–Al mixed oxides by anion exchange (Au/MAO-AE) and homogeneous deposition–precipitation (Au/MAO-HDP). The XRD, UV–visible, and XPS spectra demonstrate that the Au species on both samples are present as metallic Au. The Au nanoparticles are directly confirmed by the transmission electron microscopy images. Very importantly, both Au/MAO-AE and Au/MAO-HDP catalysts show superior catalytic activity, selectivities, and recyclabilities in the aerobic homocoupling of phenylboronic acid, yielding biphenyl and phenol. During this reaction, H2O molecules from the system and hydroxyl groups on Mg–Al mixed oxides strongly influence the catalytic performance. Based on the catalytic data and XPS characterizations, a mechanism for aerobic homocoupling of phenylboronic on metallic Au nanoparticles is proposed. These catalytic data are in good agreement with those obtained from theoretical calculations.

Facile Synthesis of Au Embedded CuOx-CeO2 Core/shell Nanospheres As Highly Reactive and Sinter-Resistant Catalysts for Catalytic Hydrogenation of P-Nitrophenol

Abstract:Exploring cost-effective catalysts with high catalytic performance and long-term stability has always been a general concern for environment protection and energy conversion. Here, Au nanoparticles (NPs) embedded CuOx-CeO2 core/shell nanospheres (Au@CuOx-CeO2 CSNs) have been successfully prepared through a versatile one-pot method at ambient conditions. The spontaneous auto-redox reaction between HAuCl4 and Ce(OH)3 in aqueous solution triggered the self-assembly growth of micro-/ nanostructural Au@CuOx-CeO2 CSNs. Meanwhile, the CuOx clusters in Au@CuOx-CeO2 CSNs are capable of improving the anti-sintering ability of Au NPs and providing synergistic catalysis benefits. As a result, the confined Au NPs exhibited extraordinary thermal stability even at a harsh thermal condition up to 700 °C. In addition, before and after the severe calcination process, Au@CuOx-CeO2 CSNs can exhibit enhanced catalytic activity and excellent recyclability towards the hydrogenation of p-nitrophenol compared to previously reported nanocatalysts. The synergistic catalysis path between Au/CuOx/CeO2 triphasic interfaces was revealed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The CuOx clusters around the embedded Au NPs can provide moderate adsorption strength of p-nitrophenol, while the adjacent CeO2-supported Au NPs can facilitate the hydrogen dissociation to form H* species, which contributes to achieve the efficient reduction of p-nitrophenol. This study opens up new possibilities for developing high-efficient and sintering-resistant micro-/nanostructural nanocatalysts by exploiting multiphasic systems.
Facile Synthesis of Bifunctional Fe3o4/Au Nanocomposite and Their Application in Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

Abstract:In this paper, we report a simple, facile and efficient method to synthesize the bifunctional Fe3O4/Au nanocomposites by the direct reduction of HAuCl4 in the presence of carboxylate functionalized Fe3O4 particles which are prepared by a modified solvothermal approach. This facile synthesis route avoids the use of toxic reagent and further surface modification on the Fe3O4 surface. The obtained bifunctional Fe3O4/Au nanocomposites are characterized by HRTEM, EDX, XRD, UV-vis, and SQUID. The results indicate that every as-prepared Fe3O4/Au nanocomposites contain numerous Au nanoparticles with an average size of 6 nm around Fe3O4 spheres (260 nm). The bifunctional Fe3O4/Au nanocomposites exhibit high saturation magnetization (58 emu/g) and high performance in catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (0.05 mg of catalyst with conversion of 95% in 8 min). Furthermore, the Fe3O4/Au catalysts show convenient magnetic separability and good reusability. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:CuO/am-ZrO2 promotes the homocoupling of boronic acids under air and mild conditions without requiring external additives owing to the presence of easily reducible [CuO4] clusters. This catalyst suppresses the adsorption of MeOH solvent, thereby reducing MeOH-related side reactions and enhancing the selectivity and efficiency of the desired reaction.

Abstract:Pd nanoparticles supported on humic acid-coated nanoferrites as magnetically-recoverable catalyst was expediently prepared from inexpensive precursors and characterized by techniques such as SEM, TEM, XPS, FT-IR, XRD, ICP-AES, EDX. The as made catalyst displayed an admirable catalytic activity towards the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl halides (or) aryl diazonium salts with aryl boronic acid in non-toxic solvent EtOH/water under mild conditions. The same catalyst showed high efficiency for the Heck reaction of aryl halides with styrene was carried out with high efficiency offering good yields under ligand-free conditions. Additionally, the reduction of olefins using molecular hydrogen was also achieved using the same catalyst under ambient and base-free conditions affording the products in good to excellent yields. The magnetic activity of nano-Fe3O4 allowed the effortless recovery of the catalyst and demonstrated subsequent recyclability up to 5 cycles without a significant loss in the activity.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:A novel heterogeneous catalyst of silver nanoparticles was prepared by using a nickel metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) as a template. The catalyst has a very high catalytic activity and a strict structural selectivity towards linear aliphatic aldehydes in an A(3) Coupling reaction. The catalyst could be recovered by simple phase separation and reused for many times without obvious loss of activity.

Abstract:An efficient and highly selective heterogeneous catalyst system for aerobic oxidation of primary amines was developed using unsupported palladium nanopores (PdNPore). A variety of aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic primary amines were oxidized to the corresponding amides in satisfactory to excellent yields using ambient air as an oxidant. No palladium was leached from PdNPore during the oxidation reaction. The catalyst could be readily recovered and reused without a decrease in catalytic activity. The kinetic studies and control experiments demonstrated that nitrile acts as an intermediate, which undergo hydration to afford amide as the final product.

Abstract:Extremely small-size Au nanoparticles mainly distributed at 1–5nm were successfully prepared on layered double hydroxide by ion-exchange and reduction procedures (Au/LDH). This catalyst showed superior catalytic properties in aerobic oxidation of a wide range of secondary and primary alcohols under very mild conditions (e.g. 1atm pressure of oxygen and even at room temperature). In addition, this catalyst is stable and recyclable during oxidations. These advantages are reasonably attributed to the interaction between Au sites and basic LDH.

Abstract:Nafion–Teflon bimembrane was used as an efficient support for the preparation and application of heterogeneous palladium catalysts. The supported palladium catalysts exhibit high activity and stability in the Suzuki cross-coupling of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids to afford the corresponding biaryls in good to excellent yields, and can be readily recovered and reused several times without significant loss of activity.
