Abstract:A facile and readily available Fe-ppm-Pd/C catalyst has been developed for catalyzing Suzuki-Miyaura cross- coupling reactions. When combined with dicyclohexyl(2 ',6 '-dimethoxy-[1,1 '-biphenyl]-2-yl) phosphine (SPhos), this catalyst, with low levels of palladium (as low as 180 ppm), efficiently facilitates cross-coupling reactions between aryl boronic acids (or aryl neopentyl-1,3-diol boronic ester) and a wide range of aryl halides, including inactivated aryl chlorides. Additionally, the recovered Fe-ppm-Pd/C catalyst has demonstrated sustained catalytic activity over four runs, indicating minimal decline in performance. This suggests the catalyst's potential for long-term use and its practicality in industrial applications.

Abstract:Pentaphenylferrocenyl di-tert-butylphosphine has been prepared in high yield from a two-step synthetic procedure, and the scope of various cross-coupling processes catalyzed by complexes bearing this ligand has been investigated. This ligand creates a remarkably general palladium catalyst for aryl halide amination and for Suzuki coupling. Turnovers of roughly 1000 were observed for aminations with unactivated aryl bromides or chlorides. In addition, complexes of this ligand catalyzed the formation of selected aryl ethers under mild conditions. The reactions encompassed electron-rich and electron-poor aryl bromides and chlorides. In the presence of catalysts containing this ligand, these aryl halides coupled with acyclic or cyclic secondary alkyl- and arylamines, with primary alkyl- and arylamines, and with aryl- and primary alkylboronic acids. These last couplings provide the first general procedure for reaction of terminal alkylboronic acids with aryl halides without toxic or expensive bases. The ligand not only generates highly active palladium catalysts, but it is air stable in solution and in the solid state. Palladium(0) complexes of this ligand are also air stable as a solid and react only slowly with oxygen in solution.

Abstract:Hybrid phosphines usually combine a phosphine moiety with another heteroatom secondary donor group in their structures while compounds equipped with hydrocarbyl π-donor moieties remain still uncommon. This contribution reports the synthesis and structural characterization of the first P/π-allyl-chelating complexes that were obtained using the structurally flexible and redox-active ferrocene unit as the scaffold, viz. [PdCl(R2PfcCHCHCH2-η3:κP)] (1R; R = Ph and cyclohexyl (Cy); fc = ferrocene-1,1'-diyl). These compounds were synthesized from the respective phosphinoferrocene carboxaldehydes R2PfcCHO via reaction with vinylmagnesium bromide to generate 1-(phosphinoferrocenyl)allyl alcohols, which were subsequently acetylated. The resulting allyl acetates reacted smoothly with [Pd2(dba)3]/[Et3NH]Cl (dba = dibenzylideneacetone) to produce the target compounds. Complexes 1R and their nontethered analogues [PdCl(η3-C3H5)(FcPR2-κP)] (5R; Fc = ferrocenyl) were evaluated as pre-catalysts for the Pd-catalysed allylic amination of cinnamyl acetate with aliphatic amines and Suzuki-Miyaura-type cross-coupling of 4-tolylboronic acid with benzoyl chloride. In these reactions, better results were achieved with compounds 5R (particularly with 5Ph), presumably because they form more stable LPd(0)-type catalysts.

Abstract:SuzukiMiyaura coupling of heteroaryls is an important method for the preparation of compound libraries for medicinal chemistry and materials research. Although many catalysts have been developed, none of them have been generally applicable to the coupling reactions of heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates at room temperature. We discovered that a catalyst combination of Pd(OAc)2 and XPhos (2-dicyclohexylphosphanyl-2',4',6'-triisopropylbiphenyl) could efficiently catalyze these couplings. Besides the choice of catalyst, the use of hydroxide bases in an aqueous alcoholic solvent was essential for fast couplings. These conditions promoted fast release of active catalyst (XPhos)Pd0, and accelerated the transmetalation in the catalytic cycle. Most of the major families of heteroaryl chlorides (31 examples) and tosylates (17 examples) reached full conversion within minutes to hours at room temperature. The method could be easily scaled up for gram-scale synthesis. Furthermore, we examined the relative reactivity of coupling partners in whole reactions. Electron-rich heteroaryl chlorides and tosylates reacted more slowly than electron-deficient ones, in the order of indole, pyrrole < furan, thiophene < pyridine and other six-membered-ring azines. For heteroarylboronic acids, the reactivity ranking was reversed: indole, pyrrole > furan, thiophene > pyridine. Similarly, electron-deficient arylboronic acids were less reactive than electron-neutral and electron-rich ones. The reactivity trends from this study can help to choose appropriate coupling partners for Suzuki reactions.

Abstract:Aryl triflate is a type of facile and readily available compounds, which could be used as an alternative substrate for Suzuki cross coupling. In this manuscript, a novel ppm-Pd-Fe/C catalyst has been developed by reduction of palladium acetate and iron trichloride with aqueous hydrazine in situ and supported on activated charcoal. In combined with Sphos, and metal zinc as additives, this catalyst, with 300ppm palladium loading, could be applied in the Suzuki cross coupling between aryl triflates with aryl neopentylglycolboronates.

Abstract:The indazolium halides containing various N-substituents have been conveniently prepared and applied in the palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids at mild reaction conditions. The cross-coupling reaction provides the desired products in good to high yields. The ease of synthesis and the modularity, and the broad range of aryl bromides and arylboronic acids make this type of ligand attractive and promising for transition metal catalysis. Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for the phosphine-free Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids has been developed which utilizes the commercially available 10% Pd/C (3.5 mol% Pd) in ethanol-water (1:1) and Na2CO3 at room temperature. The reaction is convenient, environmentally benign and generates excellent yields of the coupled products (94-100%). The catalyst can be recycled using simple filtration and washing sequences without significant decrease in the yield of coupling product up to the fourth run.

Abstract:Planar chiral ferrocenyl phosphines have been employed as highly valuable ligands in metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions. However, their preparation remains a formidable challenge due to the requirement for intricate, multistep synthetic sequences. In addressing this issue, we have developed a groundbreaking enantioselective C-H activation strategy facilitated by P(III) directing groups, enabling the efficient construction of planar chiral ferrocenyl phosphines in a single step. Our innovative approach entails the combination of a palladium catalyst, a parent ferrocenyl phosphine, and a chiral phosphoramidite ligand, leading to exceptional reactivity and enantioselectivity. Remarkably, these novel ligands exhibit remarkable efficacy in silver-catalyzed asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. We carried out a combination of experimental and computational studies to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the reaction pathway and the factors contributing to enantioselectivity.

Abstract:The development of transition-metal-catalyzed methods for the synthesis of P-chiral phosphine derivatives poses a considerable challenge. Herein, we present a direct Pd/Xiao-Phos-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of easily accessible secondary phosphine oxides and aryl bromides, which provides rapid access to P-chiral phosphine oxides. The reaction proceeds efficiently with a wide array of reaction partners to deliver various tertiary phosphine oxides in up to 96% yield and 97% ee. Moreover, the synthesis of DiPAMP ligand and its analogues was also realized, which demonstrates a suitable pathway to switching the branched chain of DiPAMP.

Abstract:The development of catalytic systems that can activate aryl chlorides for palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions is at the forefront of ongoing efforts to synthesize fine chemicals. In this study, a facile ligand-template approach is adopted to achieve active-site encapsulation by forming supramolecular assemblies; this bestowed the pristine inert counterparts with reactivity, which is further increased upon the construction of a porous framework. Experimental results indicated that the isolation of ligands by the surrounding template units is key to the formation of catalytically active monoligated palladium complexes. Additionally, the construction of porous frameworks using the resulting supramolecular assemblies prevented the decomposition of the Pd complexes into nanoparticles, which drastically increased the catalyst lifetime. These findings, along with the simplicity and generality of the synthesis scheme, suggest that the strategy can be leveraged to achieve unique reactivity and potentially enable fine-chemical synthesis.

Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of arenes bearing two or more potential coupling sites is often challenging because of the chemoselectivity issue. If orthogonal cross-couplings were applicable, one can develop a synthetically useful approach for consecutive functionalization of the starting arenes compounds. We herein reported a Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of triazenyl-substituted aryl bromides catalyzed by PdCl2(PCy3)2/PPh3 under basic conditions. The resultant polyfunctionalized aryl triazenes could undergo Suzuki-Miyaura couplings under acidic conditions or be converted to many other functionalized arenes. This orthogonal coupling strategy allows for a sequential functionalization of arenes with same type of nucleophilic reagents toward the synthesis of diverse biaryls and teraryls.

Abstract:By using PhSO2CF2H as the difluoromethylidene equivalent, a novel method for connecting aromatic aldehydes and arylboronic acids via consecutive reactions was developed to obtain structurally diverse 2,2-diaryl-1,1-difluoroethenes. The key step is the palladium-catalyzed dehydrosulfonylative cross-coupling of tosylates that are prepared from PhSO2CF2H, aromatic aldehydes and tosyl chloride. Mechanistic investigations showed that the reaction proceeds mainly through base-mediated dehydrosulfonylation followed by palladium-catalyzed C(sp2)-C(sp2) cross-coupling reaction.

Abstract:Despite the significant advancements in catalytic P(III)-directed C−H activation reactions, the higher dissociation energy and stronger metal coordination of P(III) directing groups present substantial challenges for catalytic asymmetric C−H activation. In our work, we have showcased that by utilizing chiral phosphoramidite ligands, it is feasible to synthesize planar chiral ferrocenyl phosphines. Abstract:Four tridentate [C,N,S] thiosemicarbazone Pd(II) complexes were applied as catalyst precursors for the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling of a variety of aryl halides and aryl boronic acids. After screening various catalytic conditions, it was found that one dinuclear complex IV containing the bis(diphenylphosphino) ferrocene spacer was able to efficiently catalyze these reactions with yields up to 99% irrespective of the type of aryl substituent on the substrate.
