Abstract:Comparing new elastic $\mathrm{pp}$ data at 200 and 1500 GeV, it is suggested that at higher energies $\frac{d\ensuremath{\sigma}}{\mathrm{dt}}$ "caves in" at an intermediate $t$ value. Abstract:Recent experiments show that there may exist proton halos in exotic light proton-rich nuclei. We investigate the effect of an extended proton density distribution on the cross sections and form factors of elastic electron scattering from the exotic proton drip-line nuclei S-28 and O-12. With charge density distributions from the self-consistent relativistic mean field model, we calculate the cross sections and form factors for elastic electron scattering in the eikonal approximation. The numerical results are compared with the available data of the stable nuclei S-32 and O-16. The results show that the form factors and cross sections for elastic electron scattering at intermediate-momentum transfers are very sensitive to the alterations of the charge density distributions of the last protons in exotic nuclei S-28 and O-12. This is an interesting combination of the reliable relativistic mean field model with the model of electron-nucleus scattering and it can be useful for future experiments.

Abstract:$q$ numbers are introduced to replace $c$ numbers for the density function $\ensuremath{\rho}$ in a recent model of high-energy elastic scattering. The result is shown to be equivalent to the Glauber theory suitably generalized. The model leads naturally to the distinction between diffractive and nondiffractive excitation processes. The former has finite cross sections at infinite energy. Selection and intensities rules for diffractive excitation processes are discussed.

Abstract:A model for elastic high-energy scattering is presented, using the eikonal picture, or optical model, generalized to the case of two hadrons of finite extension going through each other. Two-dimensional Fourier transforms and a two-dimensional impact parameter b are introduced in the discussion. The relationship with Glauber's theory is analyzed. A comparison with experiment is presented.

Abstract:We investigate the cross sections of the elastic electron or positron scattering from 208Pb, 12C, 12,16O and 28,32S by the relativistic partial-wave expansion method using the static charge density distribution from the self-consistent relativistic mean field model and also calculate the charge form factor for 12,16O and 28,32S. The numerical results are compared with the available data. Calculations indicate that the extended charge density distributions of 12O and 28S have observable effects on the cross sections of the electron or positron scattering as well as the charge form factors.

Abstract:A simple expression for the proton matter distribution is proposed which fits well within the geometrical model the elastic pp scattering data from ISR to SppS Collider energies. The proton matter form factor is of the dipole form with an energy-dependent range parameter. The pp elastic differential cross section at Tetravon energies is obtained by extrapolation.

Abstract:We present new precision measurements of the elastic electron-proton scattering cross section for momentum transfer (Q(2)) up to 15.75 (GeV/c)(2). Combined with existing data, these provide an improved extraction of the proton magnetic form factor at high Q(2) and double the range over which a longitudinal or transverse separation of the cross section can be performed. The difference between our results and polarisation data agrees with that observed at lower Q(2) and attributed to hard two-photon exchange (TPE) effects, extending to 8 (GeV/c)(2) the range of Q(2) for which a discrepancy is established at > 95% confidence. We use the discrepancy to quantify the size of TPE contributions needed to explain the cross section at high Q(2).

Abstract:Asymptotic expressions for dip positions and other experimental parameters in hadron-hadron elastic and diffraction dissociation processes are computed for very large total cross section ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{T}$. The only assumptions are the geometrical picture, and the Yukawa-type shape of the tail of the hadron distribution.

Abstract:We present a method for the global analysis of elastic electron-proton scattering when combining data sets from experiments with different overall normalization uncertainties. The method is a modification of one employed by the NNPDF collaboration in the fitting of parton distribution data. This method is an alternative to the 'penalty trick' method traditionally employed in global fits to proton electric and magnetic form factors, while avoiding the statistical biases inherent in that approach. We discuss issues that arise when extending the method to nonlinear models. For data with Q2>1GeV2 we find relatively minor differences to traditional model fits when the normalization uncertainties from different experiments are correctly accounted for. Abstract:The differential cross sections of elastic proton-proton (pp) and proton-antiproton (pp ̄) scattering are studied in a holographic QCD model, considering the strong and Coulomb interaction in the Regge regime. Based on previous studies of strong interactions described in terms of Pomeron and Reggeon exchange, we add the contribution of Coulomb interaction described by photon exchange. We present the momentum transfer dependence of the contribution rates for each component, especially for the Coulomb-nuclear interference, which refers to the cross term between both interactions. For the adjustable parameters for the strong interaction, we can adopt the values determined in previous studies, and there are no extra adjustable parameters that need to be determined for the Coulomb interaction. New properties of elastic pp and scattering at high energies

Abstract:Data-driving determination of the new properties of elastic scattering at small angles on the basis on all existing experimental data for of pp and at GeV allows us to obtain the main characteristics of the nonstandard terms of the elastic scattering amplitude. The energy dependence of the oscillation term and the term with an extremely large slope is determined. It was shown that part of the oscillation term has a different sign for pp and reactions; hence, it is part of the Odderon amplitude. The period of the oscillation term agrees with the scaling properties predicted by the Auberson–Kinoshita–Martin (AKM) theorem. The high quality quantitative description of all data at GeV in the framework of the high energy general structure (HEGS) model supports such a phenomenon which can be connected with peripheral hadron interaction.

Abstract:It is pointed out that the recently discovered dip in elastic $p\overline{p}$ cross section is related to the dips at lower $|t|$ and lower energies, consistent with the geometrical picture of high-energy scattering. At 30 GeV/c incoming energy, the dip is predicted by interpolation to occur at $\ensuremath{-}t=1.1$ (GeV/${\mathit{c})}^{2}$. The curve for dip position versus ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{T}$ is discussed.

Abstract:The Coulomb effect in high energy antiproton-nucleus elastic and inelastic scattering from C-12 and O-16 is studied in the framework of Glauber multiple scattering theory for live kinetic energies ranged from 0.23 to 1.83 GeV. A microscopic shell-model nuclear wave functions, Woods-Saxon single-particle wave functions, and experimental (p) over barN amplitudes are used in the calculations. The results show that the Coulomb effect is of paramount importance for filling up the dips of differential cross sections. We claim that the present result for inelastic scattering of antiproton-C-12 is sufficiently reliable to be a guide for measurements in the very near future. We also believe that antiproton nucleus elastic and inelastic scattering may produce new information on both the nuclear structure and the antinucleon-nucleon interaction, in particular the (p) over bar -neutron interaction.

Abstract:Scattering of positronium (Ps) by helium atom has been investigated in a three-Ps-state coupled-channel model including Ps(1s,2s,2p) states using a recently proposed time-reversal-symmetric regularized electron-exchange model potential. Specifically, we report results of differential cross sections for elastic scattering and target-elastic Ps excitations. We also present results for total and different partial cross sections and compare them with experiment and other calculations.
Scaling laws of elastic proton-proton scattering differential cross sections

Abstract:We show that elastic scattering $pp \to pp $ differential cross sections as function of the four-momentum transfer square $|t|$ have a universal property, such that the ratio of bump-to-dip positions is constant from the energies of the ISR to the LHC, from tens of GeV and up to the TeV scale. We explore this property to compare the geometrical scaling observed at the ISR with the recently proposed scaling law at the LHC. We argue that, at the LHC, within present experimental uncertainties, there is in fact a family of scaling laws. We discuss the constraints that the scaling laws impose on the parametrization of the elastic $pp\to pp$ scattering amplitude.

Abstract:The calculated cross sections for elastic Coulomb electron scattering from the phase-shift analysis method and the eikonal approximation are compared. It is shown that the phase-shift analysis method can reproduce the experimental data very well for both light and heavy nuclei. Then the phase-shift analysis is used to investigate elastic electron scattering along the O and S isotopic chains, where the charge densities are obtained from relativistic mean-field theory. Results show that the minima of the differential cross section shift inward and upward with the increase of the neutron number.

Abstract:The physics content of the QGSJET-III Monte Carlo generator of high energy hadronic collisions is described. In particular, a phenomenological implementation of higher twist corrections to hard parton scattering processes is discussed in some detail. Additionally addressed is the treatment of the so-called "color fluctuation" effects related to a decomposition of hadron wave functions into a number of Fock states characterized by different spatial sizes and different parton densities. Abstract:High-p(T) particle spectra in p + p ((p) over bar + p), p + A, and A + B collisions are calculated in a parton model with QCD-inspired hard scattering and evolution in which intrinsic transverse momentum, its broadening due to initial multiple parton scattering, and jet quenching due to parton energy loss inside a dense medium are included phenomenologically. The intrinsic k(T) and its broadening in p + A and A + B collisions due to initial multiple parton scattering are found to be very important at low energies (root s<50 GeV). Comparisons with S + S, S + Au, and Pb + Pb data with different centrality cuts show that the differential cross sections of large p(T) pion production (p(T) > 1 GeV/c) in A + B collisions scale very well with the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (modulo effects of multiple initial scattering). This suggests that hard parton scattering is the dominant particle production mechanism underlying the hadron spectra at p(T)similar to 2-10 GeV/c. However, there is no evidence of jet quenching or parton energy loss. Assuming this model of parton scattering, nuclear broadening and parton energy loss, one can exclude an effective parton energy loss dE(q)/dx>0.01 GeV/fm and a mean free path lambda(q)<7 fm from the experimental data of A + B collisions at the SPS energies. Predictions for high p(T) particle spectra in p + A and A + A collisions with and without jet quenching at the RHIC energy are also given. Uncertainties due to initial multiple scattering and nuclear shadowing of parton distributions are also discussed.
An in-medium full-folding model approach to quasielastic (p,n) charge-exchange reactions

Abstract:A microscopic description of the quasielastic (p,n) charge-exchange reaction (here, charge-exchange scattering between analogue states) is presented and discussed. Emphasis is focused on the spin-isospin structure of the projectile-target coupling. The model is a coupled-channel extension of the full-folding optical model approach (OMP) developed for nucleon elastic scattering, where emphasis is placed on retaining the genuine off-shell behavior of realistic effective interactions in the nuclear medium. The resulting non-local optical potentials are applied to the calculation of (p,n) differential cross sections, with particular emphasis on small-angle Fermi ($\Delta S=0$) cross-sections to isobaric analog states. These parameter-free results provide a reasonable description of the $^{14}$C(p,n)-data at proton energies above $\sim$100 MeV, but deteriorate for heavier targets. These shortcomings are analyzed and possible ways to correct them are discussed.
