Abstract:Rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation of 1,5-hexadiene to corresponding dialdehydes was investigated using tetraphosphorus ligands. These ligands showed a high regioselectivity for linear aldehydes (linear to branch ratio up to 98%) in very good yield (up to 87%). It was found that the introduction of the substituents at the ortho position of the biphenyl moiety has little effect on the regioselectivity and the electron-donating substituents retard the reaction somewhat.

Abstract:A new class of substituted tetraphosphane ligands has been developed and applied in the rhodium-catalyzed regioselective hydroformylation of terminal olefins. The high regioselectivity (linear selectivity is above 97 % for 1-octene and 1-hexene) at high temperature (140 degrees C) shown by these tetraphosphane ligands is remarkable considering the low regioselectivity commonly observed under similar reaction conditions when other bisphosphane analogues are used. The steric and electronic effects of substituents on the diarylphosphane moiety have also been examined.

Abstract:Synthesis of a chelating phosphite-phosphine ligand from a tris(quinoxaline) extended resorcin[4]arene and its application in the rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation of terminal alkyl alkenes are reported. Rhodium complexes are formed within the cavity of the macrocycle and branched-selective hydroformylation of 1-octene with a b/l ratio of 5.9 has been achieved at 60 °C under 1:1 H2/CO (20 bar).

Abstract:An innovative bitopic phosphoramidite ligand L was proficiently synthesized and subsequently employed in coordination with two distinct metal species (Ag I and Rh I ), leading to the construction of a heterometallic coordination polymer. The catalyst showcased remarkable performance in the hydroformylation of long-chain alkenes, displaying high activity and selectivity with a minimum yield of 90% for aldehydes. Operating as a heterogeneous catalyst, it not only demonstrated outstanding efficacy in facile separation from the product but also maintained a low rhodium loss per catalytic cycle. The catalyst exhibited exceptional stability, remaining high activity and selectivity over 10 successive reuses. Moreover, the RhAgL catalysts exhibit notable isomerization effects on alkenes, which promote the preferential formation of branched aldehydes in the resulting product. The straightforward synthetic strategy employed in preparing this highly effective catalyst introduced an innovative concept for heterogeneous catalysis, offering promising prospects for advancing industrial processes. This remarkable performance indicates the catalyst's potential for sustainable and efficient chemical transformations, highlighting its significance in driving advancements in catalytic technology for a variety of applications in industry.

Abstract:Rhodium nanoparticles have been conveniently synthesized by one-pot chemical reduction of aqueous rhodium chloride (RhCl3·3H2O) dispersed in toluene solution in the presence of amphiphilic tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB) and chiral (R)-BINAP at ambient conditions. The resulting highly dispersed rhodium nanoparticles show small and narrowly distributed core sizes (1.5–2.0nm). The chirally stabilized rhodium nanoparticles were also immobilized on silica by impregnation to give the corresponding supported catalysts. 31P MAS NMR results and IR spectra of adsorbed CO confirm that chiral (R)-BINAP ligands stabilize the nanoparticles by coordinative interaction between phosphine and rhodium, and produce chirally catalytic active sites on the rhodium nanocatalysts. Chirally stabilized catalysts exhibit high regioselectivity and chiral induction ability for the asymmetric hydroformylation of olefins. The supported rhodium nanocatalysts show the increased activities compared to the unsupported catalysts (e.g. from 12 to 22h−1 for the hydroformylation of styrene). One hundred percentage regioselectivity of branched aldehyde and up to 59% ee were obtained for the hydroformylation of vinyl acetate.

Abstract:A series of novel hybrid phosphorus ligands were designed and applied to the Rh-catalyzed enantioselective anti-Markovnikov hydroformylation of unfunctionalized 1,1-disubstituted alkenes. By employing the new catalyst, linear aldehydes with β-chirality can be prepared with high yields and enantioselectivities under mild conditions. Furthermore, catalyst loading as low as 0.05 mol % furnished the desired product in good yield and undiminished selectivity, demonstrating the efficiency of this transformation in large-scale synthesis.

Abstract:Highly regio- and enantioselective intermolecular hydroamination of alkenes is a challenging process potentially leading to valuable chiral amines. Hydroamination of alkenes via metal-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) with good regioselectivity and functional group tolerance has been reported, however, high enantioselectivity has not been achieved due to the lack of suitable ligands. Here we report a ligand-promoted cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov-type selective radical hydroamination of alkenes with diazo compounds. This operationally simple protocol uses unsymmetric NNN-tridentate (UNT) ligand, readily available alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct hydrazones with good functional group tolerance. The hydrazones can undergo nitrogen-nitrogen bond cleavage smoothly to deliver valuable amine derivatives. Additionally, asymmetric intermolecular hydroamination of unactivated aliphatic terminal alkenes using chiral N-imidazolinylphenyl 8-aminoquinoline (IPAQ) ligands has also been achieved to afford chiral amine derivatives with good enantioselectivities.

Abstract:The first rhodium-catalyzed highly chemo-, regio- and enantioselective hydroformylation of cyclopropyl-functionalized trisubstituted alkenes affording useful chiral cyclopropyl entities is reported. Compared to generally used diphosphine ligands for asymmetric catalysis, the modified hybrid phosphorus ligand, named (R,S)-DTBM-Yanphos, can convert a series of readily available cyclopropyl-functionalized trisubstituted alkenes into high-value chiral cyclopropyl-functionalized aldehydes with high selectivities (81-98 % ee). Gram-scale reactions (TON up to 1500) and follow-up transformations to the corresponding alcohol, acid, esters and nitrile are also presented. Finally, a possible hydroformylation mechanism involving ring-open-hydroformylation pathways is proposed based on control and deuteroformylation reactions.

Abstract:The effect of ancillary phosphine ligands on the structure and hydroformylation activity of Rh-N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of type [Rh(IMes)(PR3)(CO)Cl] and [Rh(SIMes)(PR3)(CO)Cl] is described. Very high selectivities for the branched isomer (>95:5) were obtained in the hydroformylation of vinylarenes in all cases except for R = OPh. Abstract:Despite the current progress achieved in asymmetric hydroacylations, highly enantioselective catalytic addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes remains an unsolved challenge. Here, using a coordination-assisted strategy, we developed a rhodium-catalyzed regio- and enantioselective addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes such as enamides and β,γ-unsaturated amides. Valuable α-amino ketones and 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds were directly obtained with high enantioselectivity from readily available materials.

Here, we report a rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective hydrosilylation of unactivated internal alkenes bearing a polar group. Abstract:Hydroformylation is one of the most important processes of homogeneous catalysis in industry. Asymmetric hydroformylation (AHF) of prochiral alkenes provides an efficient way to the synthesis of optically active aldehydes, which are versatile chiral intermediates for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other fine chemicals. So far, most of methods reported were focused on the use of Rh(I)-based catalysts, by virtue of their high catalytic activity and excellent chemoselectivity for the aldehydes. A key issue in searching for efficient asymmetric hydroformylation catalysts is the development of new chiral ligands. A number of chiral phosphorus ligands have been successfully developed for Rh(I)-catalyzed AHF reactions. In this review, the recent advances in the development of chiral ligands for the Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydroformylaion of olefins have been surveyed.

Abstract:Rhodium carboxylato complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbene ligands, [Rh(IPr)(CO)(2)(OAc)] (1) and [Rh(IPr)(2)(CO)(OAc)] (2), have been synthesized and characterized. The two complexes are catalytically active for the regioselective hydroformylation of both aryl and aliphatic alkenes with regioselectivities of up to 40:1, without concomitant isomerization or hydrogenation.

Abstract:Rh-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylation of terminal alkenes and tertiary silanes using readily-available PPh3 as the ligand was reported. This method facilitated the effective synthesis of alkylsilanes with a wide substrate scope and high yields.
