Abstract:The problems of delay-dependent robust stability and stabilization for discrete singular time-delay systems with norm-bounded uncertainties are investigated in this paper. By introducing some non-positive items to compensate the redundant energy caused by the positive items, an improved Lyapunov functional, namely partial non-positive (PNP) Lyapunov functional, is presented for achieving less conservative results. On the basis of the forward difference of this PNP Lyapunov functional, modified strict linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based delay-dependent conditions are established for the singular time-delay system to be regular, causal and stable. By solving these LMIs, an explicit expression for the desired state-feedback control law is obtained. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate that the proposed results are effective and less conservative than the existing ones.

Abstract:The robust D stability analysis problem for a class of singular systems is considered in this paper. With the introduction of some free matrices, a new necessary and sufficient condition for a singular system to be D stable is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). This result is extended to the singular systems with polytopic uncertainties and a sufficient condition is obtained for the uncertain singular systems to be robust D stable using the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method. Numerical example shows the effectiveness of the obtained approach. © 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider an unstable linear parabolic diffusion-reaction PDE system with an actuator at the right boundary via the Dirichlet condition. We begin to derive the first order necessary conditions for the open loop finite-time horizon problem using the classical variational approach. Then, we discuss the the state-feedback problem, and obtain the feedback law by formulating the Riccati partial differential equation (PDE). Finally, with the feedback law, we could prove the stability for the state-feedback problem exponential stability with any given decay rate in the time domain without solving the Riccati PDE.

Abstract:This paper presents a new systematic framework for nonlinear singularly perturbed systems in which state-dependent perturbation functions are used instead of constant perturbation coefficients. Under this framework, general results are obtained for the global robust stability and input-to-state stability of nonlinear singularly perturbed systems. Interestingly, the proposed methodology provides innovative solutions beyond traditional singular perturbation theory for emerging control problems arising from nonlinear integral control, feedback optimization, and formation-based source seeking.

Abstract:We present a singular perturbation theory applicable to systems with hybrid boundary layer systems and hybrid reduced systems {with} jumps from the boundary layer manifold. First, we prove practical attractivity of an adequate attractor set for small enough tuning parameters and sufficiently long time between almost all jumps. Second, under mild conditions on the jump mapping, we prove semi-global practical asymptotic stability of a restricted attractor set. Finally, for certain classes of dynamics, we prove semi-global practical asymptotic stability of the restricted attractor set for small enough tuning parameters and sufficiently long period between almost all jumps of the slow states only.

Abstract:This work develops a singular perturbation theory for initial-value problems of nonlinear first-order hyperbolic systems with stiff source terms in several space variables. It is observed that under reasonable assumptions, many equations of classical physics of that type admit a structural stability condition. This condition is equivalent to the well-known subcharacteristic condition for one-dimensional 2×2-systems and the well-known time-like condition for one-dimensional scalar second-order hyperbolic equations with a small positive parameter multiplying the highest derivatives. Under this stability condition, we construct formal asymptotic approximations of the initial-layer solution to the nonlinear problem. Furthermore, assuming some regularity of the solutions to the limiting inner problem and the reduced problem, we prove the existence of classical solutions in the uniform time interval where the reduced problem has a smooth solution and justify the validity of the formal approximations in any fixed compact subset of the uniform time interval. The stability condition seems to be a key to problems of this kind and can be easily verified. Moreover, this presentation unifies and improves earlier works for some specific equations.

Abstract:Approximation methods for boundary problems for a fourth-order singularly perturbed partial differential equation (PDE) are studied. Using a suitable variable change, we reduce the problem to a second-order PDE system with coupled boundary conditions. Taking into account asymptotic expansions of the solutions, we discrete the resulting problem by a tailored finite point method. It is proved that the scheme converges uniformly with respect to the small parameter involved. Numerical results are consistent with the theoretical findings.

Abstract:The robust stability and stabilization problems of uncertain fractional-order singularly perturbed systems are studied in this paper. The fractional order of the system is commensurate and satisfies . Firstly, the sufficient conditions for the robust stability of the systems are derived, which take the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Secondly, the problem of controller synthesis is analyzed, and the state feedback controller is designed to stabilize the uncertain fractional-order singularly perturbed systems, and the sufficient conditions for stabilization are established in the form of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs). Thirdly, an LMI-based iterative algorithm is provided to solve these BMI-based conditions. Finally, the validity of the obtained conclusions is verified by two numerical examples.

Singularly perturbed systems serve as essential tools in modeling intricate systems characterized by multiple time scales, wherein one subsystem exhibits significantly faster evolution than the others. The presence of small delays introduces complexities, influencing both state derivatives and delays, further accentuating the intricacies of the system. Drawing upon the principles of singular perturbation theory, the article introduces a novel approach to analyzing the stability of these complex systems, eschewing the conventional assumption of exponential stability in the fast subsystem. Within the scope of this study, we propose a rigorous stability analysis, utilizing Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) methods, while considering time-varying parameters that exert substantial influence on the system's dynamics. The proposed methodology enables the exploration of system stability beyond conventional assumptions, imparting valuable insights into the behavior of singular perturbed delayed systems amidst varying conditions. Through extensive numerical simulations, the effectiveness and robustness of the approach are validated, illuminating the stability properties of these intricate systems. Abstract:In this paper we discuss the perturbation of a generalized Liénard system, defined in two regions. For x ≤ 0 the system is regular, while for x > 0 the system is singularly perturbed. An essential difference with other papers is that a degenerate canard point appears which requires a blow-up analysis. We prove that under generic conditions the perturbed system has at most one small-amplitude limit cycle and at most N canard limit cycles, where N is the number of local extrema of the function F ( x ) in the singular part of the Liénard system. For critical values of the control parameters the mechanism of a canard explosion is discussed. As an application we prove that the upper bound for the number of limit cycles in a Gause predator-prey system with a general monotonic functional response function with cut-off is two times the number of maxima of the natural prey growth function after the cut-off.
