Abstract:Difunctionalization of alkenes represent a convenient way to complex molecular structure. Herein, visible light-induced intramolecular carbodi(tri)fluoromethylthiolation of alkenes was reported. CC and C-S were formed in the procedure. Various fluoroalkylthiol substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans (DHB) was prepared. Aryldiazonium salts derived from o-allyloxy anilines were used as precursors of aryl radicals. The following cyclization occurred, and the resulting alkyl radicals were trapped by shelf-stable reagent PhSO2SRf (Rf= SCF2H, SCF3). The direct difluoromethylthiolation on arenes was not observed. A variety of atoms and functional groups were tolerated.

Abstract:An efficient method for the synthesis of isoquinolinone derivatives via photopromoted carboamination of alkynes is developed. Starting from the readily available propargyl alcohol derivatives, the polycyclic isoquinolinone derivatives could be obtained with good aryl and heterocycle tolerance. Both terminal and alkyl substituted alkynes could be employed. This protocol is operationally easy, and easily conducted on a gram-scale. A possible mechanism involving radical addition and cyclization following aromatization was proposed.

Abstract:Visible light promoted difunctionalization of alkynes is reviewed. The difunctionalization reaction is achieved by different reagents. Radicals such as carbon (sp3), carbon (sp2), and other heteroatom (P, S, N, Se, O, and halide) radicals initiated by visible light can undergo radical addition to a carbon-carbon triple bond. Upon further transformation, the desired difunctionalized products are obtained. Some organometallic complexes can be activated by visible light; the difunctionalization of alkynes is catalyzed by these species. Other reagents like 1,3-dipole precursors could also react with alkynes to give difunctionalization products; here, the 1,3-dipole derivatives are obtained by visible light photocatalysis. So far, the strategy has been succeeded in the formation of C–C bonds and C–X bonds. Several valuable chemical skeletons have been constructed under mild conditions. However, high regio- and stereoselectivities in some direct difunctionalization methodologies are yet to be achieved.

Abstract:Visible-light photoredox-catalyzed method has been developed for the synthesis of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one-containing vinyl phosphorodithioates via direct difunctionalization of alkynes with quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones, P4S10 and alcohols. This four-component reaction could be carried out under metal-free and mild conditions, affording a number of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one-containing vinyl phosphorodithioates in moderate to good yields with Z-isomers as the major products. Photocatalytic radical mechanism is proposed based on the results of radical trapping and fluorescence quenching experiments.

Abstract:Due to the high C–H bond dissociation energy of alkanes, the utilization of alkanes as alkyl radical precursors for C–H functionalization of heteroarenes is synthetically captivating but practically challenging especially under metal- and photocatalysts-free conditions. We report herein a mild and practical visible-light-mediated method for C–H alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with trifluoroacetic acid as hydrogen atom transfer reagents and air as the oxidant. This mild protocol performed under metal- and photocatalysts-free circumstances and represents good functional-group tolerance as well as a broad substrate scope.

Abstract:Herein, we describe a green and efficient photoredox catalytic C3-H alkoxycarbonylation between quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones or coumarins and readily available alkyloxalyl chlorides under ambient conditions. A series of quinoxaline-3-carbonyl and coumarin-3-carbonyl compounds are prepared through the radical addition of the in situ-generated alkoxycarbonyl radicals. Notably, this protocol features mild conditions, operational simplicity, and excellent functional group tolerability. More importantly, the carboxylated products can be readily derivatized into other important compounds that would be of great potential for the exploitation of pharmaceutically active compounds.

Abstract:The synthesis and transformations of alkynes have held an important position in the field of organic synthesis. How to rapidly introduce alkynyl into organic molecules has been of great interest. Photoredox catalysis has been widely used in organic synthesis because it can generate high reactive free radical intermediates under mild conditions using green and clean energy. Visible light photocatalytic alkynylation has flourished in the last decade, which is believed to be a significant complement to the classic transition-metal-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction. This alkynylation could take place via in situ generated copper acetylide complex from terminal alkynes and copper, which also occurs through alkynyl radical species or radical addition elimination of non-terminal alkynes. Moreover, it was a good supplement to Sonogashira reaction that various radical precursors could be applied to alkynylation by visible-light photoredox catalysis. Based on the type of bonding of alkynylation, the research progress of alkynylation reactions by visible-light photoredox catalysis is reviewed, and the future development of this field is prospected.

Abstract:Visible‐light‐mediated [2+2] photocycloaddition reaction can be considered an ideal solution due to its green and sustainable properties, and is one of the most efficient methods to synthesize four‐membered ring motifs. Although research on the [2+2] photocycloaddition of alkynes is challenging because of the diminished reactivity of alkynes, and the more significant ring strain of the products, remarkable achievements have been made in this field. In this article, we highlight the recent advances in visible‐light‐mediated [2+2] photocycloaddition reactions of alkynes, with focus on the reaction mechanism and the late‐stage synthetic applications. Advances in obtaining cyclobutenes, azetines, and oxetene active intermediates continue to be breakthroughs in this fascinating field of research.

Abstract:Simple and practical strategies for visible-light-induced C-H alkylation of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones with cyclobutanone oxime esters and hydroxamic acid derivatives have been developed under mild and redox-neutral conditions. These two reactions can be carried out at room temperature and obtain a variety of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives with cyano and amide groups. Moreover, the cyanoalkylation reaction of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones can proceed smoothly in the absence of photocatalysts.

Abstract:A novel strategy of visible‐light photoredox catalysis ipso‐annulation of activated alkynes with polychloroalkanes for the synthesis of 3‐polychloroalkyl spiro[4,5]trienones, which used 4‐methoxybenzenediazonium tetrafluoroborate salt as a hydrogen atom transfer reagent, is described. This polychloroalkylation/ spirocyclization of alkynes offers a widely range of 3‐polychloroalkyl‐spiro[4,5]trienone derivatives in high yields with a broad substrate scope via selective C(sp3)‐H homolytic cleavage. The results of controlled experiments showed that this method involves a radical process. The polyhaloalkyl radical species generated from intermolecular hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) between aryl radical and polychloroalkanes.

Abstract:Sonogashira-type cross-couplings of functionalized heterocyclic halides with terminal alkynes were performed efficiently at room temperature. The heteroaryl halides were easily prepared from the corresponding heterocyclic compounds. The catalytic system tolerated a very broad scope of substrates; oxazoles, thiazoles, and furans participate in this type of reaction for the first time. This reaction provides an efficient method for the direct functionalization of heterocycles.

Abstract:Visible light promoted hydration of a wide scope of alkynes to ketones catalyzed by rhodium(III) porphyrin complexes was described. The key intermediate beta-carbonyl alkyl was observed and independently synthesized. The rate of photolysis is over two orders of magnitude faster than that of the thermal process.
