Abstract:Mild and direct C–H bond functionalizations and vinylations of tetrahydrofuran with alkynes have been accomplished through visible light photocatalysis, yielding a range of vinyl tetrahydrofurans under the synergistic actions of organic dye-type photocatalyst eosin Y, tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH), and a 45W household lightbulb. A significant kinetic isotope effect (KIE) was recorded, which helps shed light on the mechanistic course.

Abstract:Difunctionalization of alkenes represent a convenient way to complex molecular structure. Herein, visible light-induced intramolecular carbodi(tri)fluoromethylthiolation of alkenes was reported. CC and C-S were formed in the procedure. Various fluoroalkylthiol substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans (DHB) was prepared. Aryldiazonium salts derived from o-allyloxy anilines were used as precursors of aryl radicals. The following cyclization occurred, and the resulting alkyl radicals were trapped by shelf-stable reagent PhSO2SRf (Rf= SCF2H, SCF3). The direct difluoromethylthiolation on arenes was not observed. A variety of atoms and functional groups were tolerated.

Abstract:Visible light promoted difunctionalization of alkynes is reviewed. The difunctionalization reaction is achieved by different reagents. Radicals such as carbon (sp3), carbon (sp2), and other heteroatom (P, S, N, Se, O, and halide) radicals initiated by visible light can undergo radical addition to a carbon-carbon triple bond. Upon further transformation, the desired difunctionalized products are obtained. Some organometallic complexes can be activated by visible light; the difunctionalization of alkynes is catalyzed by these species. Other reagents like 1,3-dipole precursors could also react with alkynes to give difunctionalization products; here, the 1,3-dipole derivatives are obtained by visible light photocatalysis. So far, the strategy has been succeeded in the formation of C–C bonds and C–X bonds. Several valuable chemical skeletons have been constructed under mild conditions. However, high regio- and stereoselectivities in some direct difunctionalization methodologies are yet to be achieved.

Abstract:The potential of (2-bromoethyl)diphenylsulfonium triflate to be a powerful vinylation reagent was determined by the Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions with terminal alkynes. The vinylation proceeded smoothly at 25 °C under Pd/Cu catalysis to afford a variety of 1- and 2-unsubstituted 1,3-enynes in moderate to excellent yields. Abstract:A photoinduced vicinal difluoroalkylation and aminosulfonylation of alkynes under photocatalysis was realized. The combination of ethyl 2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetate, alkynes, and DABCO⋅(SO2 )2 with hydrazines, catalyzed by 9-mes-10-methyl acridinium perchlorate in the presence of visible light, afforded (E)-ethyl 2,2-difluoro-4-aryl-4-sulfamoylbut-3-enoates in good yields with high stereoselectivity. This four-component reaction proceeds through radical addition with the insertion of sulfur dioxide.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced nickel-catalyzed cross coupling of alkyl carboxylic acids with N-trifluoroethoxyphthalimide is described. Under purple light irradiation, an α-hydroxytrifluoroethyl radical generated from a photoactive electron donor-acceptor complex between Hantzsch ester and N-trifluoroethoxyphthalimide was subsequently engaged in a nickel-catalyzed coupling reaction with in situ-activated alkyl carboxylic acids. This convenient protocol does not require photocatalysts and metal reductants, providing a straightforward and efficient access to trifluoromethyl alkyl acyloins in good yields with broad substrate compatibility. The complex bioactive molecules were also compatible with this catalytic system to afford the corresponding products.

Not only structurally diverse Michael acceptors but also styrenes are amenable to this alkylation reaction. Abstract:Visible-light-induced three-component 1,2-alkylarylation of alkenes and alkyl radical addition/cyclization of acrylamides have been realized via a photocatalytic halogen-atom transfer (XAT) process. This metal-free protocol utilizes readily available tertiary alkylamine as both an electron donor and XAT reagent for the activation of alkyl halides using naphthalimide (NI)-based organic photocatalysts. This process features broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under mild conditions, and could be effectively applied to a variety of medicinally relevant substrates.

Abstract:Visible light-mediated site-specific C(sp3)-H xanthylation of amides has been accomplished using N-xanthylamides. The N-centered radicals generated by light initiation of N-xanthylamide substrates undergo 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer to form benzylic or alkyl radical intermediates under metal- and catalyst-free conditions. This method exhibits a broad substrate scope, high functional group tolerance, and high regioselectivity. Abstract:Due to the high C–H bond dissociation energy of alkanes, the utilization of alkanes as alkyl radical precursors for C–H functionalization of heteroarenes is synthetically captivating but practically challenging especially under metal- and photocatalysts-free conditions. We report herein a mild and practical visible-light-mediated method for C–H alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with trifluoroacetic acid as hydrogen atom transfer reagents and air as the oxidant. This mild protocol performed under metal- and photocatalysts-free circumstances and represents good functional-group tolerance as well as a broad substrate scope.
