Abstract:Curriculum reform is the fundamental reconstruction of curriculum carried out by people.Compared with common and concrete curriculum change,curriculum reform is more comprehensive with wider scope,deeper degree and longer duration.Curriculum reform usually deals with the important changes or orientation adjustment of values,theoretical basis,guiding ideology and systematic policy related to curriculum.The internal motive of curriculum reform is that people meet the demand of students' individual development and the demand of social development through continuous changes of school curriculum.In curriculum reform,we often adopt linear thinking way and dual opposite thinking way which is worthy of reflection and improvement.As for the evaluation of curriculum reform,we can consider the appropriateness,advancement and justice of curriculum reform.

Abstract:Although it seems obsolete to analyse and criticise a curriculum from the point-of-view of “subject-centredness”, this is the situation we face during the Chinese basic education curriculum reform. This article gives a brief introduction to the ideas behind the development and practice of the Chinese curriculum reform and the progress of the reform since 2001. Several aspects of the reform are introduced: 1. Re-examining and revamping academic courses; 2. Adding general practical courses; 3. Diversifying the curriculum with local and school-based courses; 4. Providing elective courses for all students. We also give two examples to present the idea of the new curriculum and practice.

Abstract:This paper first analyzes historically the main contents of seven rounds of curriculum reforms in China since 1949,and indicates that those reforms follow an elite decision-making mode,which are top-down and implemented administratively.Second,the paper points out that the eighth curriculum reform should have started but it did not start from responding to challenges of times,characterizing education goals,analyzing human learning mechanisms,and thinking of values of knowledge,all of which constitute the foundation of a curriculum reform.Third,this paper analyzes the new curriculum plan from an international perspective,and points out that this plan missed several key components such as its core ideas and the interpretation of the curriculum goals.Fourth,focusing on four featured measures of the new curriculum reform,this paper demonstrates that their practical basis is weak and there exist internal conflicts among their theoretical bases.In this sense,this paper argues that this seemingly ambitious new curriculum plan is actually built on quicksand.Finally,this paper advocates that it is necessary to rethink the curriculum reform,emphasizes that the reform should shift its focus to studeats' deep learning and the establishment of its accountability system,and further puts forward the idea that the ethical orientation of the reform should be from the " conviction ethics" to " responsibility ethics".

Abstract:WT5,5”BZ] China sped up its reforms of the macrostructure adjustment in higher education after 1994. However, there still exist such problems as the due/undue emphasis on scale comprehensiveness, the relationship between college combination and content of education, and revitalization of China's education through further reforms. The author suggests that college combination should not be dictated by authorities or administrations. Market regulations should be introduced. The author holds that we should not expect too much from the system reform. A multi system approach, concludes the author, is the only way out for China's higher education.

Abstract:This article reports on a study of secondary English teachers' perceptions of and implementation of the New English Curriculum Reform in China initiated in 2009. Ethnography and triangulated data collection methods were employed to gather information about three senior secondary English teachers' interpretations of the New Curriculum and their teaching behaviours. It was found that a considerable implementation gap emerged as a major obstacle to teachers' implementation of the New Curriculum requirements in their classroom practices due to a series of contextual constraints, namely teacher intransigence, examination imperatives, learner reluctance and pedagogy/policy inconsistencies. The study suggests the necessity to address the gap between reform ideas at the macro level and the school realities at the micro level throughout the implementation process, particularly at the initial stage. The study highlights three conditions to be fulfilled to bridge the implementation gap, that is, long-term goals, teachers as contextual decision makers and nurturing and developing teachers.

Abstract:This essay focuses on the curriculum reform in Chinese early childhood education (ECE) and is separated into five sections. There is a clear rationale for selecting this reform as well as a description of the reform. While it is clear that the reform has advantages, significant shortcomings have been highlighted in the essay. The promotion of diverse and autonomous curriculum development and implementation was a successful outcome of the Chinese ECE curriculum reform. Individualism in curriculum creation and a more child-centered approach have been effectively established by Chinese ECE reform. It was very challenging for teachers to apply the reform's new curriculum and pedagogy in the classroom, nevertheless, because it did not start with professional training and did not account for Chinese kindergarten teachers lacking expertise. Additional policy recommendations are also presented at the end. It is advised to use a mix of top-down and bottom-up policies to enhance the way curriculum reform is implemented in Chinese ECE.

Abstract:There are all kinds of contradictions in the process of curriculum changes. Although the change facilitators are apt to implement the reform plan faithfully, the change agents or the teachers tend to modify the reform in their implementation."Fidelity" and "modification" bring the contradictions between the facilitators and teachers. Therefore, the change facilitators, on the one hand, should face up to the problems in the reform and give a reasonable modification to the fidelity orientation and, on the other hand, help teachers to reduce the resistance and try to combine the reasonable elements of the above two to ensure the steady promotion of changes.
