Abstract:This paper attempts to explore the principle of the RCM (reliability- centered maintenance) strategies, which takes into consideration the condition of electrical equipment and its importance in the power network. The actual condition of electrical equipment can be identified based on various criteria and its importance in the power network due to the effect of equipment faults on power network safety and economic benefits. The RCM strategies can be adopted to find out which equipment must be maintained first.

Abstract:This paper proposes a maintenance type selection model based on effectiveness and cost analysis using CBM information .F irst ,i t defines effectiveness composed of three factors, namely, state health indictor, reliability and availability ,g ives each factor’s formula ,a nd analyzes the impacts of different maintanence types on each factor. T hen, it gives maintenance cost’s components with their formulas and effectiveness’s calculating model .A t last ,it educes a maintenance type selection model aiming at most effectiveness per unit cost .C ase study lists maintenance type selection process of a transfomer in certain state .T he result shows that this model is reasonable and credible. This model is suitable for power equipment maintenance management, and can help maintenance staff make economic and effective maintenance arrangement.

Abstract:Unreasonable maintenance strategy will increase maintenance cost and reduce the efficiency of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools. Therefore, not only the degradation state of components but also their coupling effect should be considered to obtain a scientific and reasonable system-level maintenance strategy because of the dependence among different components of CNC machine tools. This study proposes a group maintenance strategy of CNC machine tools considering economic dependence, structural dependence, and stochastic dependence among critical components and optimizes the group maintenance strategy. The model of group maintenance of CNC machine tools is composed of four sub-models: sub-model of component degression, sub-model of group maintenance decision, sub-model of imperfect maintenance, sub-model of maintenance cost. Utilizing the model of group maintenance of CNC machine tools, the time, objectives, and measure of maintenance can be decided according to the degression state and failures of components. And then, the cost of each maintenance can be calculated. In the group maintenance model, economic dependence and structural dependence among components are quantified by cost, while stochastic dependence is quantified by failure intensity. On that basis, the Monte Carlo method is used to simulate the machine tool operation process, and the long-term maintenance cost of CNC machine tools corresponding to a certain failure intensity threshold is calculated. Finally, genetic algorithm is used to optimize the failure intensity thresholds of preventive maintenance and group maintenance. A numerical example verifies the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method for the group maintenance strategy.

Hybrid Preventive Maintenance Model Based on Reliability Constraint

Abstract:A hybrid preventive maintenance model for equipment maintenance features was established based on two maintenance strategies of equipment failure rate decay and age decrease.Reliability constraint condition was introduced to the mathematical model for optimization of average maintenance cost in unit time.The optimal preventive maintenance strategy could be achieved to balance maintenance costs and reliability relations.Random variable was used to assess the effect of the hybrid model.The hybrid preventive maintenance model for a paper machine equipment which met the failure time Weibull distribution was solved to obtain the optimal preventive maintenance strategy. In the strategy, the maintenance cost decreased 10.11% to the average cost and 21.05% to the maximum cost.Simulation shows that the hybrid model based on reliability constraint can realize the minimum average cost per unit time in meeting the minimum reliability standard.This approach can be used for scheduling the maintenance plan and provide the decision support for job shop scheduling.

Abstract:The application of numerical control machine Tools is an alternative process between the effect of failures and maintenances.This paper is based on the assumption that the system will be under predictive maintenance when it fails more than N times after the application,but merely a minor after-failure maintenance(which is also called correction maintenance) will be carried out when the failure times is fewer than N.According to 25 failure data for a certain type of NC machine tools in one year,the statistical method is used firstly to inspect the tendency of the data,then the NC machine failure process is proved to accord with Weibull process model after the estimation of parameters and the examination of the linear correlation.Based on the above work,the model of mean availability is identified.

Abstract:Tools used in a machining process are vulnerable to frequent wear-outs and failures during their useful life. Maintenance is thus considered essential under such conditions. Additionally, it is widely recognized that the maintenance of manufacturing equipments and the quality of manufactured product are highly interrelated. However, few detailed study has been found in the literature dealing with the effects of maintenance policies on the operational performance of such a system, especially the long-term average cost. The need for a method to determine the optimal tool maintenance policy has become increasingly important. Since the multiple tools in a multi-station machining system generally have significant interactive impacts on the product quality loss, the optimal multi-component maintenance models for several policies are investigated to address the interdependence among these tools. Three distinctive multi-component maintenance policies, i.e., age replacement, block replacement, and block replacement with minimal repair, are identified and analyzed. The proposed approach focuses on these maintenance policies with consideration of both component catastrophic failures, and the interdependence of component degradations on the product quality loss as well as the obsolescence cost. The effects of various maintenance policies on the system performance are simulated, and they are used to determine the best policy for a given system. An illustrative example is used to demonstrate effectiveness and applicability of the proposed approach. The results presented a comparative analysis of specified maintenance policies with respect to the total maintenance cost with consideration of the product quality loss and the obsolescence cost.
Maintenance Strategies for Industrial Multi-Stage Machines: The Study of a Thermoforming Machine

Abstract:The study of reliability, availability and control of industrial manufacturing machines is a constant challenge in the industrial environment. This paper compares the results offered by several maintenance strategies for multi-stage industrial manufacturing machines by analysing a real case of a multi-stage thermoforming machine. Specifically, two strategies based on preventive maintenance, Preventive Programming Maintenance (PPM) and Improve Preventive Programming Maintenance (IPPM) are compared with two new strategies based on predictive maintenance, namely Algorithm Life Optimisation Programming (ALOP) and Digital Behaviour Twin (DBT). The condition of machine components can be assessed with the latter two proposals (ALOP and DBT) using sensors and algorithms, thus providing a warning value for early decision-making before unexpected faults occur. The study shows that the ALOP and DBT models detect unexpected failures early enough, while the PPM and IPPM strategies warn of scheduled component replacement at the end of their life cycle. The ALOP and DBT strategies algorithms can also be valid for managing the maintenance of other multi-stage industrial manufacturing machines. The authors consider that the combination of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies may be an ideal approach because operating conditions affect the mechanical, electrical, electronic and pneumatic components of multi-stage industrial manufacturing machines differently.

Abstract:This paper studies a single-machine scheduling problem with multi-phase maintenance and variable processing time to minimize the makespan.The upper bound θUB of the number of maintenance is proved.This problem is modeled by a two-phase BIP model based on the concept of virtual maintenance,which is first provided.Then,LPT-SPT algorithm with polynomial time complexity is given.And we also proposed the improved variable neighborhood search(VNS),populated variable neighborhood search(P-VNS),which is formulated by adding the solution population and accept probability to the basic VSN.Finally,computational results show that LPT-SPT and P-VNS perform well in the time efficiency and accuracy.

Abstract:An automatic tool changer (ATC) is one of the most important subsystems of a computerized numerical control (CNC) lathe. The field failure analysis is very important to improve the reliability of the ATC. The structure and mechanism of an ATC is briefly introduced. Its brief reliability block diagram is set up. With this understanding, through the collection of the field failure data, a coding system to code failure data is devised and a failure analysis database of CNC lathes is accrued. The failure mode and cause are analyzed to indicate the weak subsystem of the ATC. Some suggestions on improving the reliability have been proposed.

Abstract:For manufacturing systems, product quality and machine reliability are two key health indicators, which usually deteriorate as a result of machine deterioration. Maintenance can mitigate the machine deterioration and consequently improve product quality and machine reliability. In this context, we propose a quality and reliability oriented condition-based maintenance (CBM) policy for the serial multistage manufacturing systems. In the policy, the conditions of quality-related components are monitored to evaluate the quality loss of final products and the system failure rate, which are further compared with the corresponding thresholds to decide whether to trigger preventive maintenance (PM). When PM is triggered, a cost-based improvement factor is introduced to identify the importance ranking of PM groups and then determine a group of machines for PM. This factor is developed based on importance measure and jointly considers the improvement of quality and reliability and the reduction of maintenance costs. A multi-level CBM decision-making process is developed to evaluate the total cost over the planning horizon for decision optimization. The effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed CBM policy is demonstrated through a case study of a serial four-stage machining system producing shaft sleeves.

Abstract:Tool magazine and automatic tool changer is important parts to fulfill the machining center tool reserve and automatic changing of the spindle tool. The reliability of them directly affects the performance of the host. But recently there are no researches on the reliability evaluation methods, so considering this situation, the reliability evaluation researches on CNC machine tools and their main parts at home and abroad are analyzed and concluded. Combining the collected failure data of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer, use MTBF (Mean Time between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) and the inherent availability index to realize the reliability evaluation of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer. Thus put forward a method to study the reliability evaluation of circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer.

Abstract:A statistic analysis system for CNC lathes is constructed in this paper. Using this system, the field failure data of home-made CNC lathes can be collected and the probabilistic distribution of time between successive failures can also be determined. In order to rind out the weakness of the traditional home-made CNC lathes, failure mode, effect and criticality analysis is carried out. Based on the detailed analysis of failure causes, reliability growth suggestions and actions to improve reliability of the weak subsystems for the CNC lathes are proposed. The experiments verify that these suggestions and measures can improve the reliability of home-made CNC lathes.

The favorable opening system can be extended to further application.

Abstract:With the increasing demand of human–machine interaction under a scenario of the novel Maintenance Strategy 5.0, it sparks off a growing requisition of reliable maintenance strategies to maintain operations in good order. In this study, a novel hierarchical maintenance strategy model based on multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is proposed to pledge scientific maintenance. First, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) based on negative information and Deng entropy is introduced to assess the equipment maintenance requirement level. Subsequently, the improved average rank method is selected to fit the Weibull distribution function, which is able to better qualify the characteristics lifespan of target equipment. Moreover, hybrid effect with multi-criteria decision-making, in aspects of risk priority, expert assessment as well as human interference of failure are deduced, which highlights the scientific significance and credibility of the recommended maintenance levels and times. Finally, the feasibility of the predictive maintenance schedule is verified through gray correlation analysis (GRA). Overall, the proposed model takes into account the effects brought by failure modes, subjective uncertainty, and human interference on the maintenance strategy; it, therefore, provides a new insight on the assessment of the intertwined relationship between maintenance and reliability.

Abstract:In practical production system, the equipment may shift randomly from working state to the failure state with age deterioration. As the effect of aging on the deterioration rate of most repairable equipment cannot be ignored, and preventive maintenance (PM) activities can only be able to restore part of the performance and corrective maintenance (CM) is performed after failure, efforts should be devoted to combination of PM and CM under age-based policies. This paper considers maintenance scheduling problem with multiple maintenance modes. The objective of this paper is to determine the proper maintenance sequences while minimizing the total cost under equipment age deterioration. This paper develops a model to solve the problem described and uses a yard crane maintenance case to discuss the impact of reliability range parameter.

Abstract:Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is important to improve production system performance because it is capable to effectively prevent costly equipment failures. However, CBM usually has to stop machines for maintenance during operation and this may severely impede the normal production. This paper establishes a real-time CBM decision making method to minimize the negative impact of CBM stoppage events in a multistage manufacturing system. The method utilizes an event based analysis method to estimate the permanent production loss resulted from a CBM event. An online control algorithm is introduced to effectively explore the optimal CBM control options. Simulation case studies are performed to validate the event-based CBM decision making method.

Abstract:According to the problems existed in the mine equipment maintenance,based on the MES system on Shangwan Mine of Shendong Coal Company,with the equipment reliability theory in combination with the Boston Consulting Group Matrix of the management,a new analysis method of the equipment maintenance strategy was provided.A related data interface developed could directly provide the maintenance mode judgment of the equipment.The results showed that with the analysis on the equipment maintenance strategic scheme,the equipment management person could timely and correctly find the problems existed in the equipment maintenance and make a proper maintenance schedule in order to improve the management level of the equipment maintenance.

Abstract:Considering the impact of machine availability is essential in production scheduling, especially when the target is to minimise total tardiness. In this study, a single machine scheduling problem derived from a rotor production workshop is addressed. We evaluate machine availability by its reliability, which can be restored by preventive maintenance (PM). PM with different improvement effectiveness is considered in the problem formulation. A genetic algorithm (GA) is developed to solve the problem. Emmons dominance rules are applied in the mutation processes of the GA. Computational experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the algorithm. Sensitivity analyses have been conducted to provide useful managerial insights for real workshop scheduling.
