Abstract:Making use of the data, collected from Zhejiang Province, on the information-ization and organizational behavior, we have studied the relationship between enterprise's informationization, enterprise's basic organizational behavior, performance in production, competitiveness and the ability of innovation (EBOBPIPCATAOI). Basically, we have made the following conclusions: (1) EBOBPIPCATAOI increase with the augmentation of the investment in enterprise's informationization; (2) the enterprise's organizational centralized behavior can strikingly advance EBOBPIPCATAOI; (3) the key to the effect of the centralized organizational behavior upon the increase in enterprise's achievement lies in the complementarities between the organizational centralized behavior, the investment in information and the cooperation between workers and managers.
Family Firms, Corporate Governance and Performance: Evidence from Zhejiang

Abstract:This article try to combine the culture and efficiency arguments of explanation of family firm in the way, that the cultural argument help us to understand family firm as it is and the efficiency argument explains its change in the process of evolution. With a short description of development of family firm in Mainland China after 1978, we investigate the relationship between family firm, corporate governance and performance by researching into over 300 firms in manufacturing industry in Zhejiang Province, China. We examine the stake of the largest family shareholder, the leadership structure and the characters of management impact on family firm performance. We find that family firm perform better than Non-family firm through estimating production function model. Among family firms, nepotism is negatively correlated with the productivity of the firms, while the first in command’s education level have an insignificant effect on productivity improvement. There is no significant relationship between CEO duality and family firm performance.

Abstract:This study investigates the relationship between international young ventures' learning effort and performance in foreign markets, as well as its underlying contingencies, in the context of an emerging economy. We predict that international learning effort enhances international performance, that this effect is stronger at higher levels of market turbulence and intrafirm trust, and that the enabling role of trust for leveraging international learning effort into enhanced performance is particularly strong in turbulent markets. Results from a sample of 162 Chinese international young ventures support the hypotheses. The study has important implications for research on international entrepreneurship.

Abstract:Defining employment relationships from the employer's perspective and based on the inducement-contribution framework, this study examined the link between employment relationships and firm performance in a heterogeneous sample of firms in the largest emerging economy in the world, i.e., the People's Republic of China. It also analyzed the contingent role of both the firm's strategic orientation and its ownership structure. The results demonstrated that it is the combination of a high level of expected contributions coupled with a high level of provided inducements (i.e., organization-focused employment relationship approach) rather than a high level of either expected contributions or provided inducements alone that is critical for firm performance. Further, we found that it is not the organization-focused but the under-investment employment relationship approach that offers a competitive advantage if the firm pursues the prospector strategy or if the firm is a domestic privately owned enterprise. In particular, the domestic privately owned enterprises reported the highest firm performance when they used the under-investment approach with their middle managers, in contrast to the state-owned or foreign-invested enterprises. These results support both the universalistic and the contingency perspectives on the relationship between employment relationships and firm performance. They also contribute to our understanding of employment relationships in the global context. Copyright (C) 2003 John Wiley Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:Four constructs are developed and five research hypotheses are tested in a structural equation model focused on the role of strategic business alignment and information management in achieving business performance. The data to develop the constructs and test the model are based on a survey of 226 manufacturing firms in the US automobile components industry. The research is interdisciplinary in nature with a focus on building theory in an under-researched area of study by testing a causal model. The structural equation model analysis supports the general theory that 'the degree of business strategy alignment affects enterprise information management and time-related operating performance, and through these two intermediate constructs, improves business performance'. Enterprise information management is the key mediating variable in the causal model. Other insights based on statistical evidence are presented such as strategic business alignment, which do not directly improve time-related operating performance but must act indirectly through enterprise information management (the mediation construct) to improve performance.

Abstract:The prosperity of interfirm alliance and the low success ratio makes the measure and the factors influencing alliance performance one of the most important academic problems.Based on the literatures,the paper argues that interfirm resource interdependence and relational quality separately influence the potential alliance value and the degree of realized potential alliance value,and thus influence alliance performance.With the data of 156 Beijing firms,the empirical research demonstrates that interfirm structural resource interdependence,trust,commitment,and communication significantly influence alliance performance.

Abstract:The 21st century is a century for the Chinese.With the in- tensified competition in the global marketplace,it will be a big chal- lenge for the enterprise to maintain its own competitive advantage. The effects of corporate culture on organizational performance have been gaining attention for these years.Corporate culture has become more and more important,and so does its related studies. This study gathers data from 244 companies in both Mainland China and Taiwan area,we apply SPSS statistic approaches examining the relationship of corporate culture and organizational performance. Considering our findings,we make some suggestions for business implications.

Abstract:This research examines the integrated effects of external network ties and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on innovation performance. It also investigates how environmental dynamism affects the network ties-EO-innovation performance relationship. Drawing on the dynamic capability perspective of EO and the contingency view of network ties, we posit that business ties influence innovation performance through EO, while political ties affect innovation performance through business ties and EO. Moreover, we hypothesize that the indirect effects of business ties (through EO) and political ties (through business ties and EO) on innovation performance are stronger in more dynamic environments. Using a sample of 218 industrial firms from China, the findings support our arguments. Our in-depth examination of the relationship between network ties, EO and innovation performance results in some theoretical and managerial implications for discussion.

Abstract:This study examines the inner influencing mechanism and boundary conditions of the association between CEO relationship-focused leadership behaviors and organizational performance. Using data from top managers, HR directors, and operational level employees at 286 companies in seven provinces of China, this paper finds that CEO relationship-focused leadership behaviors have a positive effect on organizational performance. Specifically, CEO relationship-focused leadership behaviors relate directly and positively to firm performance in organically-structured firms and indirectly and positively to firm performance in mechanistically-structured firms via the chain-mediating role of employee relations climate and employees’ attitudes. The findings offer theoretical contributions to the leadership and employee relations climate literature and provide practical value to Chinese enterprises.

Abstract:PurposeThis paper reviews literature of corporate entrepreneurship (CE) and explores the relationship between CE and market performance in China by taking a disaggregated approach after developing a reliable and valid scale of CE.Design/methodology/approachThe empirical paper is based on questionnaire survey and statistical analysis.FindingsThis paper identifies the key dimensions of CE and finds that each dimension exerts differentiated impacts on market performance of firms in China.Originality/valueNowadays, more and more studies have been conducted on entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial orientation, intrapreneurship or CE. However, no agreement has been reached about the key dimensions of CE and much less is know about the generalizability of related research findings in emerging economies. This paper is intended to bridge these gaps.

Abstract:We build a two-stage model to discusses how the degree of internationalization influent enterprise operating performance. The result shows that there a U-shaped curvilinear relationship between Chinese firms. Although Chinese firms have so far made some achievements, they are still climbing the learning curve. Therefore, under the development restrictions, they would present a unique performance that decline in the early stage and then advance in the growth stage. The results of our study do not deny the other immature theory, but rather indicate the new features of the Chinese firms under economic transformation background.
A Study on the Boundary Conditions of the Relationship between the Entrepreneurial Orientation and the Business Performance

Abstract:The entrepreneurial orientation(EO) is a key concept in the field of entrepreneurship research and what is most concerned is the relationship between the EO and enterprise's performance. From the early researches on the direct relationship, from the introduction of the adjustment variation that impacts on the orientation or strength of the relationship between the two, further from the exploration of the mediating mechanism, the academic world has accumulated a lot of related literature. Adopting the research method of a meta-analysis, and based on 135 indepen dent studies between 1990 and 2012, we have explored the impact of the EO on enterprise performance and the boundary conditions of this influencing relationship. The results of the meta-analysis indicate that the correlation of EO with the performance is moderately large(r=0.307). But the degree of a country's development, the line that the enterprise is in, the way of the measurement of performance and research time will have a different degree of adjust ment role to the relationship between the two, which shows that the relationship between the EO and firm's perfor mance will be influenced by time, space, the industrial characteristics and performance evaluation standards.

Abstract:This study investigates the relationship between environmental orientation and firm performance with the mediating role of green supply chain management (GSCM). This study uses a survey questionnaire to collect data from 247 CEOs from Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Structural equation modeling is used to analyze data and test hypotheses. Empirical results show that internal and external environmental orientations are positively related to the three elements of GSCM, namely, environmental selection, monitoring, and collaboration with suppliers which are also positively related to firm performance. In addition, results show that environmental selection, monitoring, and collaboration with suppliers mediates the relationship between internal and external environmental orientations and firm performance. The findings provide important implications for academic researchers and business managers in planning and implementing environmental strategies. In terms of theoretical implications, this study sheds a new light to current knowledge about the effect of environmental orientation on GSCM and firm performance of SMEs. This study also provides empirical evidence to clarify the mediating mechanism of GSCM in the link between environmental orientation and firm performance of SMEs. In terms of practical implications, this study provides knowledge for managers of SMEs to better understand the important role of environmental orientation and green supply chain management. Findings of this study provide knowledge for managers of SMEs to make their business policies better.

Abstract:This study explores the links between CEO leadership behaviors, firm performance and employees' attitudes in a sample drawn from 125 firms in China. We first inductively identified categories of CEO leadership behaviors in the Chinese context. Through a factor analysis, we developed a six-dimension measure of CEO leadership behaviors, with three dimensions focused on tasks and three dimensions focused on relationships. Our hypotheses were tested on a matched data set including 739 middle managers and their supervisors (top managers) in the 125 firms. Results from the structural equation modeling analysis show that the CEO's task-focused behaviors are directly linked to firm performance. The CEO's relationship-focused behaviors are related to employees' attitudes and, through these attitudes, to firm performance. Limitations and implications for future research are discussed.

Abstract:The impact of management relationships on corporate performance has always been the focus of management research. This article studies the impact of management relationships on corporate performance in a transformational environment, and finds that management relationships are an important part of the internal management environment of the enterprise. Good management relationships can help improve corporate performance, while poor relationships can have negative effects. In a transformational environment, enterprises need to strengthen internal communication and collaboration, streamline organizational structure and decision-making processes, and enhance training and support for managers, thereby improving management relationships and promoting the performance of the enterprise. Therefore, enterprises should pay attention to building a good internal management environment, cultivating managers with cooperation and coordination capabilities, and improving corporate performance to achieve long-term stable development.

Abstract:This paper examines diversification and corporate performance relationship in the framework of agency theory. Contrary to most of the existing literature, the study reports a statistically significant U-shape relationship. Also it is not consistent with the notion that managerial discretion contributes to the return-reducing diversification. These results hold true even after controlling for other firm level variables. These results suggest that the understanding in the western literature about diversification performance provided by the agency theory may not be automatically applicable to the case of China's companies, and that a highly diversified corporate practice could still be beneficial in China.
