Abstract:In recent years, E-band transceivers (TRXs) with multi-Gb/s data-rate and high sensing accuracy are dramatically demanded for communication and radar systems [1], [2]. To improve the wireless system integration level, transmitter (TX), receiver (RX), and phase-locked loop (PLL) are usually designed in a single chipset. Besides, the super-heterodyne architecture is widely adopted in E-band TRX, due to its simple implementation [3]–[5]. Whereas, the direct conversion approach requires a high isolation between TX and RX terminals. Then, the dual-mixing sliding-IF architecture is introduced [6], [7]. Nevertheless, increased mixing blocks limit the entire system efficiency and introduce extra in-band mixing products. To overcome these issues, a TRX architecture with quadrature direct-modulated TX and reflectionless heterodyne RX is proposed for E-band applications. Note that, different signal modulation and demodulation methods are used in TX and RX paths to avoid the self-interferences.
